Karen Guanga FYS 1000 - EWB Career Reflection Paper I chose to go to "Career Fair Ready with Bank of America" hosted by Ascend on Tuesday, September 21. When researching all my options for the career research paper, I was stuck between going to a meeting with Starr career development center or the "Career Fair Ready with Bank of America." I convinced myself to go to the career fair ready with Bank of America because I knew the Starr Career Development Center hosts many events where the Career Fair Ready with Bank of America was a one-time event. The majority of the people in the zoom meeting were all Juniors and Seniors. Therefore the discussion began with one representative of Bank of America speaking on internships such as the Summer 2021 internships. At first, I thought it was open to all college students, but almost none are for first-year students. But now I am aware that this internship exists and can prepare for the applications next year or two. In the meeting, I met three people who worked for Bank Of America: Romans Borisous, who is a director; Brian Poznaski, campus recruiter, and Anne Xie, GWIM markets role. They discussed how their jobs were impacted due to COVID- 19 and how they adjusted to being remote in the meeting. They also talked about their road to the job position they are in now. Since this meeting had the objective to prepare us for the career fair, they all gave many tips on standing out in the career fair, tips like having questions prepared beforehand, showing your face, and having an optimistic tone. As a Baruch student, this meeting has helped me because I am now prepared and have enough knowledge of what a Bank of America looks for in a job candidate. Since this is my first year at Baruch, this is very new to me, which helped me prepare and be more confident for the next time I join meetings similar to this. Even though I am a freshman and most of the opportunities are more towards Juniors and Seniors, I could get tips that I should be doing now, so when I'm a junior or senior, I would be prepared, such as building up my resume. It is never too early to start learning and exploring these opportunities, so this has helped me because I know that I should be joining more calls this year. Overall going to this meeting has helped me in my career pathway because I learned about internships I should be looking into and how to land a job.
