Drill: Decimal to Percent/ Percent to Decimal Game
The teacher will group the class into 4. Each group will choose a leader. The group leader
will be the one to write their answers. If the group will get the correct answer, they will be
given 1 point. They will change the given percent into decimal, then decimal to a percent.
Present word problems to the pupils.
Michelle is excited to buy the pair of shoes that she will wear for her graduation. She was
excited when she saw her dream pair of shoes on sale. From Php 1,395.00, it is now sold
at a 20% discount. Therefore, Php 279.00 will be deducted from the original price of the
shoes and will be the amount Michelle will save.

How to identify the rate, base, and percentage in number and word problems?
Rate – it is a number followed by a percent ( %)
Base– a whole or total number of which you can take the percent
Percentage– part of the whole of determined by the rate
Example:
Word Problem: Monique invited 300 kids to her party. Only 15% of the kids did not show up. Fortyfive kids did not attend the party.
Number Problem:
75% of 8 is 6
Guided Questions:
What element is part of the whole?
Answer: Percentage
What element is a total number or whole which you can take the percent?
Answer: Base
What element is a number followed by percent or given as percent ( %)?
Answer: Rate
Pupils will group into three. They are going to perform the differentiated activity. They will choose a
leader to report their work.
Group 1: Identify the rate, base, or percentage in the given numbers.
Group 2: Identifying the rate, base, or percentage in the given problems
Group 3: Identifying the rate, base, or percentage in the following number and word problems.

20% is the Rate (is the expression with the % symbol or it is a number written with the word
“percent”)
₱279.00 is the Percentage (is the part of a whole; part of ₱1,395.00)
₱1,395.00 is the Base (is total or whole and it is the number that usually follows the phrase
“percent of” or “% of”)
