PRODUCTION OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT Submitted to: Syed Amir Ali Shah TEAM MEMBERS: ADIL, ABU BAKAR AND SHAHZAIB PRODUCTION OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT PROJECT BRIEF A Brief Description about Business: We looked over different businesses/ companies around us that were meeting our requirements for the selection of the business for our course project. After discussing with team members we came up with the conclusion that we are interested in digging more information about restaurants since we visit the restaurants every now and then. Among them were the businesses that are nearby Sukkur IBA University that have recently launched and are competing to each other. These businesses include Sindhri Restaurant, MZ Restaurant, Chai & Grill, Café Arvin and Lansdowne Sukkur. We looked over these businesses and decided to work on Lansdowne Sukkur. The reason behind choosing Lansdowne Sukkur is that it was launched by one of our friends and batch mates. We love their restaurants service and food. Moreover after the launch of Chai & Grill, it was quite challenging for the Lansdowne Sukkur to hold their position and maintain their market share. Therefore, by working on Lansdowne Sukkur, we will be able to understand more not only about the operations of it but also, their strategies in competing their competitor. Because one of the reason behind the huge success of Chai Grill was their supply chain and operations processing. Therefore, we would love to work on Lansdowne Sukkur and get information about how they have dealt with their competitor in terms of supply chain and operations of the business. A Brief Overview of two Operations Management Themes: After exploring different themes of operations management, we come up with themes that can be done feasibly. Following are the two themes we would like to work on. 1. Organizational Competitive Edge and Operations Strategy: As mentioned above, the fierce competition between Chai & Grill, Lansdowne Sukkur and Café Arvin is the main reason we are working on Lansdowne Sukkur. So in order to know how Lansdowne Sukkur is surviving and also pushing hard to be the market leader, we will need to look over their organizational competitive edge and the operations strategies they are using. Therefore, this theme rightly paints our objectives and right to work on. 2. Concept of Quality, its Control, and Management: The success of restaurants depends upon the quality they serve. Also, how the service is managed what is the lead time of deliveries and fast food chain servings. So, we would like to work upon understanding how the quality of Lansdowne Sukkur is maintained, how they control and manage their overall operations in meeting the demand and customer satisfaction. pg. 1 PRODUCTION OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT Sources of Primary and Secondary Data: The primary source of the Lansdowne Sukkur fast food chain are the owners who are actively managing the operations of the fast food chain. We will be conducting interview to gather data about how they are managing the supply chain and what are the key factors behind the smooth working of their operations. As far as secondary sources are concerned, we will meet the customers mostly visit Lansdowne Sukkur and would like to know about their perspective about the quality and service of the business. Identification of the Project Activities: In order to make sure about the insights and information of the report, we have planned the activities that we will work on throughout the given time period. Following activities mentioned will be done during the course of report formation: Interviewing the owner of the Lansdowne Sukkur. Discussing about the operations of the business. Collecting data by discussing with workforce of the business. Doing multiple discussions with customers of Lansdowne Sukkur. Gathering all the data, doing discussions, comparing the data with our operations and management themes. Doing market research and taking help of online platform to come up with recommendations that are applicable for the business. Project Contributions: Instead of dividing work to each team member, we have decided to engage every team member in every part of the work, be it interview with owners, discussion with customers, data collection or working on recommendations. Our core objective is to practically understand the real time applications of operations and management and come up with a solution and recommendations that if applied rightly could increase the efficiency of the business. To sum up, we are thrilled to do our work in a way that it could contribute to an ongoing business in real time. pg. 2
