Pre-K Biofuels and Sun as energy source 9a Ariunzaya, Maralgoo WHAT WILL WE LEARN IN THIS TOPIC? 01 What is biofuel? 02 Examples How does sun become energy source? 04 Examples 03 01 PULL! PUSH! What is Biofuel? Biofuel Biofuels are liquid fuels produced from renewable biological sources, including plants and algae. In biofuels, chemical energy can be stored and it can replace petrol. 02 PULL! PUSH! Examples Examples Solid biofuels Liquid biofuels • • • Fuelwood Animal waste • Biodiesel bio gasoline • Biogases Anaerobic fermentation Advantages 1. Renewability 2. Maintenance Costs 3. Sourcing 4. Carbon Neutrality Disadvantages 1. Long-Term Costs 2. Pollution and Water Use 03 PULL! PUSH! Sun SUN as an energy source The Sun is the star at the center of our solar system. It is mostly hydrogen - about three quarters of its total mass - and helium about one quarter of its total mass. The source of the Sun’s energy is nuclear fusion in the Sun and it is the main source of energy for many of the energy sources. 04 PULL! PUSH! Examples Examples Fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas are derived from plants which grew requiring light from the Sun. Sunlight is also needed by the plants used in biomass energy production today. Energy from the Sun drives the weather systems which enable wind and hydroelectric power to be harnessed. Solar energy is used directly in solar cells for electricity generation. THANKS!
