16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
OVERVIEW
Main point 1: Course description
This course has its basis in 16 specific laws of nature, their emergence from the field of pure
intelligence, as universal principles of creative intelligence which are responsible for the whole
manifest universe. Using both subjective and objective means of gaining knowledge, the
students learn that all the fields of study are connected to the field of pure creative intelligence
– the home of all the laws of nature – inside themselves.

Main point 2: Goal of the course (the result I want to achieve at the end)
• Enlivens the understanding that there is something deep within the surface of everything and
that the laws of nature, investigated by all the different disciplines, have their common source
in the unified field.
• Enables the student to draw deep personal connections between themselves and all streams
of knowledge.
• The students naturally become aware that they and all creation are expressions of these 16
laws of nature and that the home of all the laws of nature is deep within their own self
Main point 3: Objectives (what I need to accomplish in order to achieve goal)
• To enliven the knowledge and experience of the unified field of all the laws of nature
• To understand the 16 principles of creative intelligence, objectively and subjectively.
• To explain how the 16 principles are enlivened in the individual through the technique of
Transcendental Meditation
• To say it, tell it, write it and teach each other in groups
• To develop creative skills in poetry, art and the ability to participate in group activities
• To develop effective study habits with end of lesson summaries (through regular homework.)
Main point 4: Values and attitude outcomes
• Deepens appreciation for nature
• Creates awareness for the environment and the individual’s greater role in creating an ideal
environment and society
• Realisation that the world is their family
• Supports responsible behaviour and responsible citizens
• Inner happiness, through total knowledge

EXPECTATIONS
Wholeness of the lesson: The academic quadrant
Be open to learning. Listen to others. Participate in discussions.
Be an active participant in group activities. Have fun!
Butterfly analogy – Two wings are needed to fly. One wing is our
academic performance (60%), and the other wing is our
development of full human potential (80%). The academic
performance will help us to obtain a degree. The development of
full human potential will insure we achieve greatness.
Main point 1: Bloom’s Taxonomy (Taxonomy of academic skills)
You will be required to master various academic skills which are reflected in the following
taxonomy, listed in order from basic to complex. In order to achieve the highest level, it is
necessary to fully master the lower levels. Therefore, in order for the student to create, he/she
will have to memorise, understand, apply, analyse, synthesise and evaluate the information
learned. When the student writes the FASA, he/she will analyse, synthesise and evaluate
information, but in order to do this, the student needs to be able to memorise, understand and
apply the information first.
Maharishi: “The field of knowledge has to be discovered from two diametrically opposed
viewpoints. You have to know the tree as many things, and you have to know the sap as being
the cause of all these different things. So, the path of investigation – the path of knowledge – is
through analysis and synthesis. These are the two paths to gain complete knowledge. You
synthesise a thing and then you analyse the synthesised thing – both ways. Then you get real
Total Knowledge. You must have both ways. The boy has to go from home to school and then
he has to return back from school to home in order to claim knowledge of the path. The same
path has to be traversed (crossed) twice, in two opposite directions. This is the way to gain
knowledge”
The seven levels are:
1. Memory – Acquiring knowledge and the ability to recall what has been learned.
2. Understanding – The ability to show that the learned material is understood
(Comprehension)
3. Apply – The ability to use the learned material
4. Analysis – The ability to break up information logically into components parts
5. Synthesis – The ability to structure a situation or information to form a new pattern or a
whole
6. Evaluate – The ability to evaluate the worth of material, theories, methods, information etc.
7. Create – The ability to display all the above in a presentation, art, poem, music, etc.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
EXPECTATIONS
Main point 2: Attendance and participation policy
“By attending school, it shows you have a desire for knowledge”
• Students are required to attend all classes and participate fully in all aspects of the course.
When you attend a class, you do so to learn. Therefor no cell phones – please focus on the
lecture being presented and refrain from using your cell phone.
• Students are required to attend at least 80% of the classes for this course. Failing to do so
may result in removal from the course. The student will then have to re-do the course at a
cost.
• A class register will reflect present only for students who are seated on time, students who
arrive within ten minutes of the start of class will be marked late while students who arrive
more than ten minutes late will be marked as absent.
• Any student who loses more than 20% for attendance will be automatically removed from the
course register
Main point 3: Punctuality
• Punctuality is expected and required in the professional world. People commonly lose their
jobs for being late – especially new college graduates unfamiliar with professional
expectations. Colleges and universities have come under criticism for not properly preparing
the students in these values.
• Coming late is disruptive and unprofessional and may show lack of courtesy and respect to
the lecturer and to fellow students.
• Arriving more than 10 minutes late for a class will result in the student not being allowed to
sign the register and therefor will be marked absent.
Main point 4: Standards of appearance
• Our personal appearance influences us and everyone who sees us. As faculty we expect
that when you come to class you will maintain an appearance that is neat, dignified and
appropriate to the occasion. This means: no torn, stained or sloppy clothing, and no
inappropriately revealing clothing.
Main point 5: Clean and tidy learning environment
• Use the bins provided. If there are no bins, please take your rubbish home with you. The
classroom must be swept at the start of the day as well as at the end of the day. No eating
allowed in the classrooms. All extra desks and chairs not being used must be neatly stacked
in the back of the classroom.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
EXPECTATIONS
Main point 6: Assignment conditions
• The requirements will be stipulated during each course and per assignment
• Failure to submit an assignment before the end of the course will result in INCOMPLETE
status, which means the student will have to re-do the course at a cost
• Assignments are professional documents. No boarders, frames, pictures allowed
• The pass rate is 60%
Main point 7: Plagiarism
• When a person uses information from a book, article, webpage or any other source for an
assignment without acknowledging the source and then pretend that it is their own work, this
is plagiarism.
• When students copy other students’ work with or without permission from the student, this is
also plagiarism and you may be penalised for this
• Students must ALWAYS provide references when:
o Quote: use exact words from the source
o Paraphrase: using the ideas of another person in your own words
o Summarise: use the main points of another person’s opinions, theories or data
• Students who are found guilty of plagiarism will forfeit all credit for the work concerned. In
addition, this matter may be taken to the Disciplinary Committee

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
EXPECTATIONS
Main point 8: Referencing
• Referencing acknowledges the sources that you used to write your essay or assignment
paper
• A reference list is a list of citations in a written work. It shows the authority on which you base
your statements in the text, shows how well acquainted you are with the subject and is a
starting point for anyone wanting to find out more about the subject.
• A bibliography is a list of documents (books, articles and papers) that was read, analysed or
consulted for a specific assignment or essay. All these references are not necessarily
included in the list of references. If you have quoted from a source, the source must be
included in your bibliography.
• Sources used in referencing include:
o Books, academic journals, internet articles, magazines and newspapers.
• Reasons for referencing include:
o Indicates what material is the work of another person or is from another source
o Indicates what material is your original work (since you are indicating what is not your
own)
o Allows the reader to refer to any external material
o Provides the reader with an indication of the quality and authority of the material you
are referencing
• Referencing styles include: Students must use APA style
o APA: (American Psychological Association). This is an author/date-based style. This
means emphasis is placed on the author and the date of a piece of work to uniquely
identify it
o MLA: (Michigan Language Association) Most often applied by art and humanities,
particularly in the USA
o Harvard: is very similar to APA and is most well used style in the UK and Australia.
o Vancouver: Is mainly used in medical and scientific papers
o Chicago and Turabian: Used mostly for history and economics
• Credible sources:
o A credible source in academic writing is one written by an expert in the subject area
and edited and fact-checked by multiple other experts to ensure that the information
is accurate, comprehensively researched and as free as possible from bias.
o A credible source is reviewed by peers with some expertise in the field and cites the
sources it uses to make and support its argument
o Wikipedia, for example, is not a credible source. Its contributors are not necessarily
experts, nor are its reviewers; it often does not cite sources for its claims and those
references it does cite can be of dubious authority themselves.
• Search engines to be used in academic writing should end with:
o .org; .edu; ac; gov
• Examples:
o Book: AuthorLastName, AuthorFirstInitial. (year of publication). Book Title (capital)
o Periodicals: AuthorLastName. (date of publication) Title of Article. Title of journal,
volume (issue #), page
o Internet: Author/Company name. (date) Title of page. Retrieved from http:// (as much
as can be used to retrieve the page)

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
INTRODUCTION
Theme of the course: Unfolding the Total Creative Intelligence of every student to know
anything, do anything and achieve any great goal.
The 16 Principles of Creative Intelligence are laws of nature that uphold all progress and growth
in life. These 16 Principles are particularly useful for the growth of every individual and the
creation of a harmonious, healthy society.
In this course, the student will study the inner and outer values of the 16 Principles in different
ways: in light of the students’ own lives, in nature and in modern science. The student will also
examine the 16 Principles of Creative Intelligence in light of their own culture and traditions.
The process of studying the 16 Principles expands the students’ awareness in two ways:
1. The students will be expanding their world of experience from their own individuality out
to their family, community and nation
2. The students will gain an enriched understanding of the relationship between the ways
they live – their customs, traditions, habits, mannerisms, arts, architecture, government,
language, etc. – and the non-changing, unbounded source of all these expressions of
culture, the home of all the laws of nature – the unified field of natural law.
Wholeness of the lesson: Expanding our awareness.
Creative Intelligence, Culture and tradition in the family, community, countryside and
Nation
The foundation of the Science of Creative Intelligence curriculum is the field of pure
consciousness, the field of pure creative intelligence, the unified field of natural law, the field of
Total Knowledge.
The source of all creation is the field of pure intelligence, the unified field of all the laws of nature.
Maharishi’s Science of Creative Intelligence – S.C.I – gives us knowledge and direct experience
(through TM) of this field of pure intelligence, the home of all the laws of nature.
The Science of Creative Intelligence is a complete science – practical and profound, systematic,
reliable – and the essential foundation for the development of the full potential of every student,
the harmony of their community and the invincibility of their nation.
The Science of Creative Intelligence Curriculum is the study of the unified field of all the laws of
nature, the source of all energy and matter in the universe. We study the unified field in two
ways:
(1) by directly experiencing it in the simplest state of our own awareness during our
regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes; and
(2) By intellectually examining how it expresses itself throughout the universe through the
16 principles of creative intelligence. When we enliven the unified field during our
meditation, we awaken the power of the total potential of natural law to help us fulfil all of
our desires in life.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
INTRODUCTION
Wholeness of the lesson:
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “This is that most fortunate generation in the history of the human
race. It is in full possession of the total knowledge of natural law and a very simple natural
technology to make use of this knowledge to brighten all areas of life, of the individual, the
society, the nation and the world as a whole”.
The founder of Maharishi University of Management (Maharishi International University),
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, explains that consciousness is the wakeful state of awareness that
permits us to experience the world. In a more profound sense, consciousness is the prime mover
of life. The full potential of consciousness is available when consciousness is in its simplest,
least excited state, where all of its fluctuations of thought and perception have subsided, and
the waking, dreaming and sleep states have their common ground. In this state of
transcendence, unmanifest and unbounded, consciousness is the field of all possibilities.
The state of least excitation of consciousness is a state of perfect orderliness, the home of all
the laws of nature. When the state of least excitation of consciousness is fully enlivened in
consciousness, life is lived in perfect orderliness and in accordance with all the laws of nature.
When we meditate, we enliven the 16 principles of creative intelligence in our awareness. When
we study them, they not only show us how the universe evolves, they show us how we grow.
The 16 principles of creative intelligence are like signposts on the path to the unfolding of our
full potential.
CONCLUSION:
1. The unified field is the unseen source of everything in the universe
2. The unified field is the home of all the laws of nature
3. The unified field is the constitution of the universe
4. The unified field is a field of all possibilities
5. The unified field is self-referral
6. The unified field is the non-changing source of all the ever-changing expressions of
creativity and intelligence in the universe
7. All of the qualities of the unified field are in us
8. The field of consciousness is an ocean of bliss
9. The 16 principles of creative intelligence are the laws of nature that uphold all progress
and growth in life
10. This course is part of a global programme to create a better world for everyone
11. The support of all the laws of nature gained through our Transcendental Meditation
programme brings the fulfilment of all our desires

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CULTURE AND TRADITION
The meaning of culture:
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has defined the word culture in two ways: as a noun (object) and a verb
(action). Maharishi explains that when we speak of culture as a noun, we are referring to all the
values that enrich life in a particular geographical area – the ways of living in a region, the values:
the ways of speaking; dressing; eating; celebrating; mannerisms; the different values of national
laws; political systems; the arts; architecture; economics; the religions; customs and traditions
of the people that evolve over many centuries.
When we speak of culture as a verb, we are speaking of how natural law cultures development
so that the person, animal, plant, organisation or community comes to be increasingly in
harmony with all the laws of nature. Remember that a law of nature is a non-changing principle
of nature’s orderly functioning. Natural law stimulates, for example, the speech of a person, how
the laws of nature move the tongue this way to pronounce a letter in a certain way. Natural law
cultures the hearing of a cat to respond to the faint murmur of the wind moving a leaf, which
prompts the cat to move instantly. Different sensitivities are structured and promoted, to allow a
person, an animal, a plant – indeed all living organisms in the universe – to live and thrive
wherever they are. This is the culturing process. That which structures this ability, or cultures
this ability, is natural law.
So, the meaning of “culture” as a noun refers to the full range of unique features that make up a
culture.
The meaning of “culture” as a verb refers to the process of developing life into harmony with
natural law.
Culture ultimately emerges from the unified field of natural law, which we know to be the field of
the students’ own consciousness, our own Self.
(Tradition is used to describe beliefs and behaviours that are passed on from generation to
generation for example weddings and birthday celebrations, while culture is used to describe
the characteristics of a certain society at a particular point in time for example the food we eat,
the cloths we wear)
The significance of culture
Culture is that which cultures. When we culture a seed a tree grows, with many more seeds. In
this same way, when we live in tune with our local traditional customs, we are cultured by our
local laws of nature and our lives blossom. Cultural traditions culture the growth of the youth to
adulthood, step-by-step, keeping them on the path toward adulthood and preventing them from
making mistakes. When people don’t appreciate or uphold their own cultural values, or ignore
their cultural values and start copying other cultures, this is not life-supporting, because those
cultural values support life in that culture, not in their own. Maharishi explains that copying others’
cultures puts a strain on the physiology and is thus not nourishing to our growth, expansion of
happiness and success.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CULTURE AND TRADITION
The fundamentals of culture:
That is why it is so important to be established at the home of all the laws of nature. Then
naturally we uphold the Fundamentals of Culture. Being established in our own culture, we adapt
and integrate from other cultures only those elements that are life-supporting for our own culture
and naturally do not adopt any elements from other cultures that are weakening to our own.
Since the traditional culture of a region is intimately connected to the laws of nature of that
region, when we uphold our own cultural traditions, we live a life that is closely aligned with the
laws of nature lively in our region. This makes us able to progress and fulfil our goals with less
strain and effort and more success. Traditional cultural values have stood the test of time – they
are naturally in tune with the timeless field of non-change, the home of all the laws of nature, the
pure field of creative intelligence. For the society as a whole to preserve its culture and traditions
in their full strength, while still remaining open to everything from outside that is progressive for
the culture, the whole society – the collective consciousness of the nation – must be in harmony
with natural law, upheld by total natural law. The way to assure this is through the group practice
of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes.
We may become confused about the relationship between our own traditional cultural values
and practices and modern ideas, technologies and ways of doing things. It is very common and
understandable in our era of instant global communication that countries are inspired to adopt
aspects of other cultures. Often, less wealthy countries want to do things the way more wealth
countries do things. This is also understandable. But if a country forgets or ignores its own
cultural traditions, it will miss the great wealth, progress and creativity inherent in the traditions
and traditional values of its own culture. Here we have the good fortune for every culture
provided by the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes. When the people of a
nation are supported by total natural law, the infinite creativity of this field is applied in all the
different areas of national life for the progress, happiness and success of the whole nation.
Maharishi’s Five Fundamentals of Culture and Progress:
Stability, Adaptability, Integration, Purification, Growth
These five fundamentals describe the very nature of life to grow. For life to progress – for the
individual or the culture – five qualities must be present:
1. A healthy culture is stable, maintaining
its integrity in the face of continuous
change
2. A healthy culture is adaptable, accepting
new ways of thinking and doing things
that help it to achieve its goals
3. A healthy culture integrates what is
useful for its progress
4. A healthy culture purifies itself from
anything damaging to its holistic
progress.
5. When these four fundamentals are lively,
progress and growth are the natural
result. Any culture, to maintain itself,
must continue to grow

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CULTURE AND TRADITION
Maharishi’s Five Fundamentals of Culture and Progress: (continued)
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “By virtue of the element of stability being lively in national life, any
influence coming from outside (cultural, economic, political, religious or intellectual) will not be
able to overthrow integrity. By virtue of the liveliness of the element of purification in national life,
any influence coming from outside will be spontaneously purified. Whatever aspect of it is lifesupporting will be naturally integrated due to the elements of adaptability and integration.
Whatever aspect is not useful, will be purified out. By virtue of the element of growth, outside
influences will promote progress without damaging cultural integrity. Enlivening the qualities of
stability, adaptability, integration, purification and growth in the life of the individual, family,
community and country, the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes present the
practical possibility of harmonising the ever-changing nature of progress with the non-changing
nature of culture.”
A healthy culture – a culture in which total natural law is lively – is stable. It maintains its own
integrity, its wholeness, no matter what the influences from inside or outside the culture. On the
basis of this stability, it adapts to new ideas, technologies and ways of doing things without
disrupting the culture and losing its integrity. It integrates these new elements without weakening
the culture. It purifies these new elements of anything that is not life-supporting. And as a result,
it keeps growing and progressing in an all-positive, life-nourishing way.
Example of the five Fundamentals of Culture in a family:
When a family is loving and stable in the value it puts on education and learning, for example,
the parents are eager to ADAPT to new technologies or knowledge and adapt their own lives
and family budgets to give their children every opportunity to expand their knowledge.
They INTEGRATE into the family routine educational activities and items – books, educational
games, computers, cultural trips and special lessons with expert teachers. Even when a family
has minimal financial resources, a family who values education, will always find ways to integrate
the deepest, most profound traditional knowledge into the family routine and take advantage of
all the free learning activities in the community. Parents who value knowledge will always guide
their children to the highest knowledge available in their culture.
At the same time, the parents naturally do their best to PURIFY any knowledge that is not lifenourishing for the children. And if they are blessed with the knowledge about Transcendental
Meditation, they integrate this practice into the family, which purifies every member of the family
of any stress or dullness.
The result is that the children GROW quickly in knowledge and the joy of learning. The value of
education is thus passed down to the children – and for their whole life they are open to the
highest knowledge and continue to enjoy rapid progress.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CULTURE AND TRADITION
Why we study culture and tradition:
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi explains that a particular culture gets built up over many centuries,
arising out of the specific laws of nature that structure the geographical and climatic conditions
of an area. People are exposed to different natural conditions depending on where they live.
And those natural conditions – mountains, valleys, arctic, oceans and deserts – give rise to
different cultures. For example, the cultural traditions, ways of living and habits of a community
in a desert are very different from those in a city by the sea. Over a period of hundreds of years,
even in cities and states that are close to each other, different ways of speaking and doing things
develop. This is also the reason, Maharishi explains, we have so many different languages –
even different accents of the same language.
The more ancient the culture, the more in tune it is with natural law. As a proverb of antiquity
states: “that which is closest to the truth lasts longest”
Cultural traditions express the laws of nature that govern the local area in which people live.
Cultural traditions culture the growth of the youth to adulthood, step by step, keeping them on
the path toward adulthood and preventing them from making mistakes. Today, due to fast
communication, the ease and speed of travel and the exposure of one culture to another, there
is an ever-increasing mixing of cultures. This mixing can have the effect of pulling life away from
the traditions and values governing one’s own culture. But stopping the mixing is not practical.
Therefore, Maharishi explains, we need a way to spontaneously live life in accord with natural
law no matter what the influences from outside our culture. We need a way to naturally live life
in harmony with total natural law. To do this our awareness has to be permanently stationed at
the “home” of all the laws of nature, Transcendental Consciousness, from where all the local
laws of nature arise.
With our awareness established in Transcendental Consciousness, we naturally think in
harmony with all the laws of nature; we always think right, make the right decisions and take the
right actions. When individuals live life with the field of total natural law enlivened in their
awareness, they spontaneously and naturally preserve their own culture because, established
in the unified field of all the laws of nature, the field of Transcendental Consciousness, they can
only live in tune with all the laws of nature.
This is why, for the preservation of culture, which assures the preservation of life in a progressive
direction from generation to generation, it is best for people to practice the Transcendental
Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, which establish individual awareness in the home of all
the laws of nature – the unified field of natural law.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CULTURE AND TRADITION
Creativity, Culture and progress:
There is sometimes an attitude in countries with ancient cultures that cultural traditions stand in
the way of progress. Many people think, “Oh, it is ancient, it may not be able to keep up with
progress”. So, there is competition between culture and progress and people don’t know how to
make the two compatible with each other. Again, Maharishi explains, the only way to make
culture and progress compatible is to establish our awareness in the home of all the laws of
nature, from where infinite creativity springs – creativity that can be applied to the practicalities
of life, creativity that transforms possibilities into realities, problems into solutions and obstacles
into progress, while preserving the cultural values. For example, computer and internet
technologies or new organic methods of growing cotton can make the work of a group of
traditional weavers easier, purer and healthier.
By developing the full potential of individual and collective consciousness through the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, the creative potential inherent in every
culture can be fully unfolded.
Harmony amidst Diversity:
Our beautiful world is unified and diversified; it is one whole world with a vast number of
differences. When life everywhere is lived in harmony with natural law, all the different cultures
of the world form a beautiful mosaic, with all the parts contributing to the harmony of the whole.
World harmony is the natural result when every culture maintains its own integrity while radiating
an influence of harmony and peace to every other culture and every other nation.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
GLOSSARY
Being: Transcendental Consciousness, pure consciousness, the unified field; the unbounded
source of all energy and intelligence that can be experienced at the deepest level of our own
mind. Pure being, or consciousness, is the source of all the laws of nature that maintain the
existence of everything in the universe.
Bliss: Concentrated happiness; the nature of pure consciousness. When we transcend during
our practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, we dive into the ocean of bliss that is
our own Self.
Brain waves: The transmission of electrical
signals, which causes electrical waves on the
surface of the brain cells. These waves of
electrical activity are called “brain waves”. In the
waking state, a number of different brain wave
frequencies can occur, depending on the quality
of our thinking at the time. When we are in the
waking state, but just resting with our eyes
closed, our brains show what scientists call the
alpha frequency in the back part of the brain
where sensory information is taken in. When our
attention is more active and outer-orientated, our
brains show the beta frequency, slightly faster
brain waves. When our attention is active and
involved in integration of sensory information, our brains show the gamma frequency, which are
even faster. When we are sleeping, on the other hand, the brain shows very slow brain waves
called delta waves. In dreaming, the brain shows theta waves, which are a little faster than delta
waves. In Transcendental consciousness, the brain shows alpha waves in the frontal area, plus
high overall coherence, with lower overall brain activity, which indicates the state of restful
alertness.
Coherence: Orderliness and harmony between the parts of a group, system, nation, world.
When large groups of people practice their Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes together they create coherence in the collective consciousness of their country.
Collective consciousness: The consciousness of a group of people in a community, a nation,
the world. The collective consciousness of a country depends on the consciousness of the
individual citizens of the country.
Consciousness: Awareness; that which allows us to know anything and experience the world.
Everything in the universe is made up of consciousness: our minds, our bodies, the plants, the
animals, and the whole universe. We expand, develop and wake up our consciousness through
our Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programmes so we can know anything, do
anything and be everything we are meant to be.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
GLOSSARY
Cosmic: Universal; unbounded; all possibilities. Our nature is cosmic.
Cosmic consciousness: The fifth state of consciousness, or CC; the state of enlightenment. In
the state of Cosmic Consciousness, our physiology is stress-free, and Transcendental
Consciousness is permanently established in our awareness – whether we are awake, asleep
or dreaming. In CC, we experience two distinct values of life: the non-changing field of our own
unbounded awareness – our Self – and the ever-changing field of activity – the “non-Self”. In
CC, we enjoy a mistake-free, problem-free life of spontaneous right action and the support of
the total potential of natural law.
DNA: The molecule inside every cell of every living organism that contains the instructions for
how the organism will be built, how it will look, what qualities and characteristics it will have. The
DNA in every cell of the rose provides the instructions for the rose to grow thorns, become red
or pink or white, large or small. The DNA in every cell of the lion provides the blueprint for the
lion to have a mane, a roar and how to live in the jungle.
Dynamism: Characterised by action, movement and change. Transcendental Consciousness,
where consciousness is fully awake within itself, contains within it the potential dynamism of the
whole universe. The range of infinite dynamism is from the first move, or stir, of consciousness
knowing itself, to the infinite dynamism found within our ever-expanding universe.
Enlightenment: A state of life lived in complete fulfilment; the development of our full potential;
our destiny; our birth right. Enlightenment is a state of life where we can know anything, do
anything and achieve any great goal in life.
Efficiency: Skill in action; doing less to accomplish more. The field of maximum efficiency is the
field of our own pure being, the level of life that perfectly organises and administers the entire
universe.
Fulfilment: The goal of life enjoyed in the state of enlightenment, where we have everything we
want, both inside and out. The nature of life is to grow toward fulfilment.
Full awakening of Total Knowledge: A person in Unity Consciousness sees each individual
object as an expression of his Self. In the fullest development of Unity Consciousness, a person
sees an object, the object next to the original object, the background and foreground, everything
in the environment and everything in the universe as an expression of his Self. With this Full
awakening of Total Knowledge, the individual knows that there is nothing but the Self,
everywhere, all the time.
The first law of thermodynamics: The law of nature that tells us that energy is never created
or destroyed. The first law of thermodynamics explains that energy can never disappear; it can
only be changed into some other form. For example, plants take the energy from the sun and
change it into food they need for their growth. We eat the food and turn it into energy that we
use to work, to play, to move, to talk, and to think.

GLOSSARY
Frictionless flow: Quality of the field of pure being that allows an impulse to travel instantly,
with zero resistance or opposition, throughout the universe. In the field of Being there is a
frictionless flow between everything in the universe; in this field an impulse anywhere is an
impulse everywhere.
Hierarchy: The order of importance in a group of things. Schools are made up of a hierarchy of
students, teachers and administrators. Living organisms are made up of a hierarchy of layers –
including atoms, molecules, cells, plants, animals and human beings – all arising from the
innermost layer – the unified field of all the laws of nature.
Infinite: Bigger than the biggest, unbounded and never-ending. The unified field is the infinite,
unbounded field of life underlying all the finite (specific) expressions of life.
Invincibility: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “The sign of invincibility of a nation will be from the
integrated value of harmony in the country. The tensions and disharmonies will be less, the
flowering of business will be there, trade and industry will be increasing, people will be happy,
sickness will be less, and seasons will be in time, crops will be abundant, the economy will be
better, the nation’s influence in the family of nations will be greater and more appreciated. The
internal growth of cultural integrity will be more, people will be functioning more in accordance
with the laws of nature, they will not violate the laws of nature and therefor they will not create
problems for themselves and for others.”
The state of absolute strength, vitality, harmony and peace gained by any nation that has an
integrated national consciousness. The unified field of all the laws of nature is the field of
complete invincibility in nature. When a group whose size is the square root of one percent of
the population of a nation regularly practices the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes together, including Yogic flying, then the unified field of all the laws of nature is
enlivened in the life of the people, creating an integrated national consciousness. Then the
nation will be invincible.
Infinite correlation: The perfect, unobstructed and effortless flow of communication between
every part of the unified field with every other part. Because the unified field is a field of infinite
correlation, where everything is connected with everything else, when it is enlivened in one
place, it is enlivened everywhere. This is how large groups of individuals practicing the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, including Yogic Flying, in one place can
radiate an influence of peace and coherence throughout their environment. By enlivening that
basic field of infinite orderliness and harmony in one place, they enliven it everywhere.
Inner thinking: Thinking from the level of the unified field, the TM-Sidhi programme is an
example of “inner thinking”.

GLOSSARY
Knower, known and the process of knowing: When consciousness is awake to its own nature
it becomes the knower, known and process of knowing.
Knower: The Self, or “witnessing value”, in the field of pure consciousness. In daily life, when a
person listens to music, the person is the “knower”
Known: With reference to the “object of knowing” or the “known” in the field of pure
consciousness. In daily life, when a person smells a rose, the rose represents what is “known”
Process of knowing: That value of Being which connects the “knower” with the “known” in the
field of pure consciousness. In daily life, when a person looks at a painting, the “act of looking”
is the “process of knowing” value.
Laws of nature: Those rules that organise and maintain the whole universe. The laws of nature
govern everything, from the orderly orbits of the planets, to the beating of our hearts. The unified
field is the home of all the laws of nature.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of the Science of Creative
Intelligence Curriculum and its practical aspect, the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes. Maharishi’s science and technologies of consciousness offer enlightenment to
every individual and invincibility to every nation.

GLOSSARY
The Maharishi Effect:
Maharishi: “In the vicinity of coherence, hostile tendencies are eliminated”
Part 1: Creating coherent national consciousness
Regular experience of the unified field through the Transcendental Meditation programme has been
shown to dissolve deep-seated stress in the individual, bring marked reduction in hypertension, stroke,
heart disease and other stress-related illness. When practiced collectively in groups, this same
programme has been shown to effectively reduce societal stress and tensions, causing associated
reductions in crime and social violence and an upsurge of peace and positivity throughout the population.
The influence of coherence or orderliness created in society through individuals and groups enlivening
the field of complete order in nature – the unified field of all the laws of nature. The Maharishi effect is
created when one percent of the population practices the Transcendental Meditation technique in their
own homes twice daily, or when only the square root of one percent of the population practices the TMSidhi programme with Yogic Flying together in one group twice daily. This effect was predicted by
Maharishi from the beginning of his Transcendental Meditation organisation and was first measured by
scientists in 1974 in cities in the USA where the number of people participating in the Transcendental
Meditation programme had reached one percent of the city’s population. Among the more than 600
scientific research studies on the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes there are fifty
research studies confirming the power of the Maharishi Effect to reduce negative trends in society and
improve positive economic and social trends, creating peace in society and a better quality of life.
Part 2: A field theory of consciousness
How can a one percent of the population practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique, or the
square root of one percent of the population practicing the TM-Sidhi programme radiate an easily
measurable influence of harmony and peace into the collective consciousness around them?
The main idea can be stated as: Consciousness, like every other aspect of nature – like gravity or
electromagnetism – is at its basis an unbounded, nonmaterial field.
Radio provides an analogy: when the radio was first invented, very few people believed the claim that
communication could now take place without wires. A century later, however, we are much more familiar
with radio waves and other non-visible field effects. The electromagnetic field, for example, exists
everywhere in the universe – nonmaterial and omnipresent. Radio, TV, radar, GPS and the Sun produce
their effects by stimulating waves in this underlying electromagnetic field. A field theory of consciousness:
to understand peace-creating groups, therefore, it is only necessary to assume that consciousness
operates like every other aspect of nature. In this view consciousness too is an infinite, non-visible field
of awareness or intelligence available everywhere – with waves that radiate throughout society. This
concept has been corroborated by the latest unified quantum field theories. From this standpoint,
therefor, the human brain can be seen as an intricate broadcasting and receiving station for waves of
traversing the field of consciousness.
Infinite correlation: The perfect, unobstructed and effortless flow of communication between every part
of the unified field with every other part. Because the unified field is a field of infinite correlation, where
everything is connected with everything else, when it is enlivened in one place, it is enlivened everywhere.
This is how large groups of individuals practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes, including Yogic Flying, in one place can radiate an influence of peace and coherence
throughout their environment. By enlivening that basic field of infinite orderliness and harmony in one
place, they enliven it everywhere.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
GLOSSARY
The Meissner Effect:
A universal principle in nature is that internally coherent systems possess the ability to repel
external influences, while incoherent systems are easily penetrated by disorder from outside.
This principle of invincibility is clearly illustrated in physics as the Meissner Effect and in the
functioning of a nation as the Maharishi Effect.
Throughout the physical and biological sciences, we can locate principles that give rise to
permanence, or invincibility, where a system is strengthened to such an extent that its integrity
remains virtually unaffected by outside influences. In these cases, indestructibility seems always
to depend on the coherence of collective functioning of the individual components of the system.
In physics, principles of invincibility are those that protect the structural integrity of a system or
its ability to maintain order. This may include many aspects, including the strength of the
material, its hardness, the strength of the structure, its resistance to outside penetration, etc.
One example is the Meissner Effect. If we take an ordinary metal at ordinary temperatures –
such as an iron bar at room temperature – and bring a magnet near the bar, the magnetic field
will penetrate inside the iron because incoherent, disordered electrons allow penetration by an
external magnetic field. In a superconductor, however, something quite different takes place. In
a superconductor, coherent collective functioning of the electrons spontaneously expels external
magnetic fields, maintaining absolute impenetrability. In this case, it is the coherence of the
collective functioning of the electrons that causes it to maintain its invincible state.
An example of a principle of invincibility from physics, which shows the great power of order in
nature. The Meissner Effect is based on what is called a “superconductor”. In a usual conductor
(such as the metal wires which conduct electricity in our houses), there is some resistance to
the flow of electricity and this resistance is due to the disorderly condition of the electrons in the
conductor. In a superconductor, however, there is perfect orderliness in the electrons, which
creates perfect flow of electricity with no resistance. Unlike an ordinary conductor, which is
penetrated by an outside magnetic field, the superconductor, based on its perfect internal
orderliness, repels the outside magnetic field. In the same way, large groups of Yogic flyers (the
square root of one percent of the population of the country) keep negative influences from
entering a country by creating coherence or order in the collective consciousness of the nation.
The Maharishi Effect produces a coherent or orderly society – the basis of an invincible nation.
As Transcendental Consciousness – the unified field – is increasingly enlivened in collective
consciousness through group practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes, by entire school populations, coherence begins to be created even beyond the
surrounding community of the school. A powerful influence of orderliness and harmony spreads
to the whole collective consciousness, enabling an entire population to act more coherently,
more harmoniously and more in accord with natural law. On this basis schools rise to become
centres of harmony and coherence for the whole society, creating the potential for every nation
to create invincibility for itself and for all its citizens. (The role of students in making the nation
invincible)

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
GLOSSARY
Natural Law: The totality of all the laws of nature responsible for organising the whole universe,
compactified in the unified field, the field of our own consciousness. When we meditate, we
enliven the total potential of natural law in our awareness to help us grow to a life in fulfilment.
Non-changing: That which doesn’t change, ever. The unified field is the non-changing field
underlying and permeating what we see in the ever-changing universe.
Orderliness: Coherence – everything is doing what it is meant to be doing at the right time and
in the right place. The unified field is a field of perfect orderliness. By contacting it every day in
our meditation, we bring the qualities of orderliness into our own lives.
Parsimony: Guiding principle of modern science, which states: all else being equal, the simplest
theory that explains the observed facts should be the one that is used. The term is often referred
to as Ockham’s razor, because a 14th century English monk, named Friar William of Ockham,
advised scientist to “shave off” all unneeded assumptions from their theories, when trying to
explain their observations.
Pathless path: The term used to describe the experience of moving within the field of
consciousness and the experience of transcending. The pathless path describes the movement
of consciousness within itself, it is pathless because consciousness doesn’t have to travel
anywhere to find itself. It is everywhere. When we transcend, we aren’t really traveling on a path,
we are simply using the natural tendency of the mind to settle down to its own nature in the field
of complete fulfilment – pure consciousness.
Principle of least action: The law that describes how nature functions, i.e. using the least time
and energy to achieve a goal. Nature is always absolutely efficient – taking the shortest path to
the goal.
Silence: Restfulness, the complete absence of any activity, a state of non-change. The absolute
stillness of Transcendental Consciousness that is experienced during our twice-daily practice of
the Transcendental Meditation technique is characterised by a state of infinite silence.
Enlightenment is a state where the physiology is capable of upholding both infinite silence and
dynamism at the same time.
Refined Cosmic Consciousness (God Consciousness): The sixth state of consciousness. In
the sixth state, our heart is expanding and our senses are being refined. Along with the
permanent inner wakefulness of Cosmic Consciousness, in the sixth state of consciousness all
our senses become more and more keen, due to our growing inner silence and highly awake
consciousness and we see not just the surface of the rose as we did in waking state and Cosmic
Consciousness. We also – spontaneously, without trying – see all the levels of intelligence that
produce the rose, as clearly as the rose itself.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
GLOSSARY
Science of Creative Intelligence Course: The study of the unifying principles, or laws of nature,
which the students learn that are common to all the subjects we study, to the world around us
and to our own lives as we grow to fulfilment of our unique potential. In this Science of Creative
Intelligence Course, we will come to understand how universal natural laws guide the orderly
growth of everything in the universe – including us.
Self-referral: Self-sufficient and awake to itself; needing nothing outside itself to do whatever it
needs to do. The unified field is self-referral because everything is contained within it.
16 Principles of Creative Intelligence: Those laws of nature that uphold all progress and
growth in life, especially helpful for our own growth to enlightenment. The 16 principles of
Creative Intelligence are expressed at every level of life throughout the whole universe, inside
and out.
The Self: The non-changing, transcendental nature of everyone. In the Science of Creative
Intelligence Curriculum, the field of pure consciousness is often referred to as the Self.
Spontaneous right action: The ability to do the right thing at the right time in the right place –
spontaneously, automatically. In the state of enlightenment, when the field of perfect order is
permanently established in our awareness, we always perform spontaneous right action.
Self-interacting Dynamics of Consciousness: Because consciousness is conscious, it knows
itself. Knowing itself seems to divide the field of consciousness into three parts: the part that
knows itself, the process of knowing itself and the part that is known. Knower, knowing and
known are all essentially the same thing – consciousness. But these apparent divisions interact
with each other creating a vast dynamism (activity) within the field of consciousness. This is
called the self-interacting dynamics of consciousness.
Support of nature: The phrase used to describe instantaneous fulfilment of desires, which is a
natural result of regular, direct contact with the home of all the laws of nature, the unified field.
By harnessing the total potential of natural law through the regular practice of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, the students automatically gain the
support of all the laws of nature to fulfil their desires and achieve any great goal.
Sap: The most fundamental quality of the tree; an analogy for the field of pure consciousness.
Just as pure consciousness, the unified field, gives rise to and permeates through every point in
the universe, the sap unfolds into and is found underlying all the roots, stems, branches, flowers
and fruits of the tree.

Second element: A new idea or effective technique introduced to spontaneously solve a
problem without working on the level of, or analysing, the problem. In a dark room, turning on
the light is the second element used to eliminate the darkness.
Total Knowledge: Knowledge of everything, inside and out, both manifest (visible, seen) and
unmanifest (unseen) enjoyed in the fully awakened consciousness. Total Knowledge is realised
in the state of enlightenment.
Transcendental Meditation: A simple, natural, effortless technique for developing our full
potential, the practical aspect of the study of natural law; the technique for contacting the unified
field and awakening all the laws of nature to fulfil our desires in life. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is
the founder of the Transcendental Meditation programme.

Transcendental Meditation
Sidhi
(TM-Sidhi)
programme: An advanced
programme for participants in
the
Transcendental
Meditation programme. The
TM-Sidhi programme teaches
a person to think and act from
the level of the unified field,
which includes the Yogic
Flying technique.
Total Brain functioning: The experience of Transcendental Consciousness. During the waking
state of consciousness, we experience localised brain functioning. During Transcendental
Consciousness all the parts of the brain communicate with each other, to create a coherent,
integrated brain. In the Science of Creative Intelligence Curriculum, we refer to this as Total
Brain Functioning.
Transcendental Consciousness: The fourth state of consciousness or TC. During our practice
of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, we transcend the thinking process
completely and experience TC, the field of pure consciousness, or pure Being. The state of
Transcendental Consciousness is beyond the realm of the senses. It is a state of pure
wakefulness, restful alertness, Total Brain Functioning.
Unbounded: Without boundaries, never-ending, infinite. The field of our own pure
consciousness is unbounded.
Unified field: The term physicists use to describe the unbounded, unmanifest source of all the
energy and matter in the universe that underlies, upholds, organises and permeates everything,
everywhere. The unified field of all the laws of nature and our own pure consciousness are one
and the same.
Unmanifest: Unseen, hidden. The unified field, the field of pure consciousness, is the
unmanifest source of everything in the manifest (seen) universe, the source of everything we
see around us.
Unity Consciousness: The seventh state of consciousness, or UC. Unity Consciousness is
that state of life where the duality between the Self and the non-Self disappears and everything
in the universe is perceived and enjoyed as an expression of our Self – unbounded bliss
consciousness.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Other terms for the Unified field
Constitution of the Universe: The unified basis of all the laws of nature that govern the whole
universe. Just as the nation has a Constitution at the basis of all the laws governing the nation,
the universe has a constitution as well, fundamental structures of natural law at the basis of the
innumerable laws of nature governing the universe. The Constitution of the Universe is the
source of all the laws of nature that structure, uphold and sustain everything everywhere.
Field of all Possibilities: A field of pure potentiality. The unified field is the source of everything,
so it is a field of all possibilities or potential, the potential of everything.
Field of pure consciousness: The transcendental basis of everything found in the simplest
form of our own awareness. The unified field exists at the deepest level of everything
everywhere, so it must also exist inside us, at our deepest level. This is the level of our own pure
consciousness.
Home of all knowledge: The field of pure consciousness, the unified field. Because
consciousness is that which allows us to “know”, it is the home of all knowledge. Because the
unified field is the source of everything, it contains all the knowledge needed to create everything
within itself.
Home of all the laws of nature: The place where all the laws of nature reside. As the field that
structures everything in the universe, the unified field is home to all the laws of nature that keep
the universe running smoothly.
Source of thought: The simplest state of our own awareness. When we meditate, we
experience finer and finer levels of thinking until we transcend all thinking to experience the
source of thought, an unbounded reservoir of creativity and intelligence.
Total potential of natural law: The unified potential of all the laws of nature. The total potential
of natural law exists in its pure, unmanifest state in the unified field.
Transcendental Consciousness: Another name for the field of pure consciousness; referring
to that level of consciousness which is beyond all of our thoughts and actions. Like the unified
field, Transcendental Consciousness is beyond everything you can see or touch, it is beyond
the field of senses, beyond thinking and action. That’s why it is called transcendental.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Wholeness of the lesson:
The 16 principles of creative intelligence are the fundamental laws of nature that uphold all
progress and growth in life and expand our awareness. They are expressed at every level of
creation throughout the universe – here, there and everywhere, inside and outside – also in the
culture and traditions of our families, communities and nation.
The absolute is non-changing – always the same – and we access it through our regular practice
of the Transcendental Meditation technique. The absolute is expressed in the basic building
blocks which is the 16 Principles of Creative Intelligence.
The three gunas (energy): creation, maintenance and destruction – from the absolute to the
relative to the absolute. The purpose of life is the expansion of happiness – from bliss to bliss.
The destruction is the taking apart of knowledge or that which is created – and it happens for a
reason. The creation is the putting together of knowledge or that which needs to be created –
and it too happens for a reason.
Analogy of a tree – the part of the tree that is seen
above the ground and the part of the tree which is
hidden and unseen under the ground. We are mostly
focused on the part of the tree that we can see – the
trunk, the bark, the branches, the leaves and the fruits
and flowers. But this tree is rooted – and knowledge is
also rooted. Our knowledge of the relative (the seen part
of the tree), is rooted in the 16 Principles of Creative
Intelligence (the unseen part of the tree, its roots). With
the regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation
technique, we stay in touch with our roots. We function
in the relative, but our knowingness is deeply rooted
inside and the deeper my roots, the further I can grow.
The pairing of the 16 Principles

1 The nature of life is to grow
2 Order is present everywhere
3 Life is found in layers
4 Outer depends on Inner
5 Seek the highest first
6 Rest and activity are the steps of progress
7 Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
8 Every action has a reaction

16 The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
15 Wholeness is contained in every part
14 Harmony exists in diversity

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
SUMMARY
1. The nature of life is to grow
• Everything grows to reach its full potential
• Seeds become trees; children become adults
• Our full potential is the ability to know anything, do anything, achieve any great goal in life
2. Order is present everywhere
• For any progress, there has to be order
• Order gives growth the right direction
• Apple seeds only produce apple trees, summer always follows spring
• The unified field, the source of everything, is a field of perfect order
• Nothing is random
3. Life is found in layers
• Everything in the universe is made up of layers
• Order is maintained through layers
• The body has layers – skin, muscles, bones, cells
• The mind has layers – thoughts, feelings, pure consciousness
• The deepest layer of life is Transcendental Consciousness, the unified field
4. Outer depends on inner
• Outer layers of life depend on the deeper, more powerful layers
• Inner layers support and nourish outer layers
• The body depends on its organs and systems, a tree depends on nutrients from the sap
• The mind depends on the wakefulness of consciousness
• Transcendental Consciousness is a state of total wakefulness
5. Seek the highest first
• Look to the “innermost” layer of life, the “highest” to improve everything
• To learn soccer, find the best coach
• For the most complete knowledge of everything we might want to know, go to the home of
all knowledge
• The unified field is the most powerful level of life, the main switchboard for the whole universe
• Own the unified field in your own awareness and “capture the fort” to own the territory
• “Water the root to enjoy the fruit”
• Priorities
6. Rest and activity are the steps of progress
• Progress has “two feet” – rest is the basis of activity everywhere, but we need both rest and
activity to move forward
• Nature “rests” in winter before the activity of spring, day always follows night
• We gain the “highest” in life, enlightenment, through alternating steps of rest and activity,
meditation and action
• Through the steps of meditating and acting we “capture the fort” of the whole universe
28
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
SUMMARY
7. Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
• If we want to be successful, we have to be efficient
• Nature uses the path of least action, most efficient path to the goal
• Water travels downhill, bees pollinate flower and gather nectar in one stroke of action
• People who are good at something do less and accomplish more (pull arrow back to hit the
target)
• By meditating, we do “least” (transcend all doing) and accomplish everything – we become
more efficient in our actions, making less mistakes
• By alternating our regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique with our daily
activity we grow in our capacity for maximum enjoyment, efficiency and success
8. Every action has a reaction
• Action and reaction are a very important law of physics – we act and the world around us
reacts: tell a joke = people laugh; create a bird feeder = birds come and eat
• Every action influences the entire universe, like ripples spreading in a pond
• Right action has the accuracy and efficiency of natural law, where everything is taken into
account
• When we act from the unified field, the level that organises the whole universe, then all our
actions are life-supporting – and so are the reactions
9. Purification leads to progress
• Purify first and progress is the reaction that always follows
• A snowplough is simultaneously purifying and progressive
• During Transcendental Meditation, we purify our nervous system and automatically progress
towards our full potential
10. The field of all possibilities is the source of all solutions
• (other term for Unified field is the field of all possibilities)
• (second element)
• The unified field of all the laws of nature is a field of all possibilities
• Through our meditation, the field of all possibilities wakes up in our awareness
• As a result, we naturally begin to act in accord with this field of life – the source of all solutions
– which organises the universe without a problem
• Examples of the field of all possibilities on the surface of life: alphabet/words, scale of
notes/pieces of music, clay/sculpture
11. Thought leads to action, action leads to achievement, achievement leads to fulfilment
• Every day in our lives we experience cycles of knowledge, action, achievement and fulfilment
(hunger-refrigerator-apple-delicious)
• When we think from the level of the field of all possibilities, all the laws of nature help us
achieve what we set out to do
29

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
SUMMARY
12. Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
• Knowledge is the basis of the thought, action, achievement and fulfilment cycle. Knowledge
is gained when our attention flows from inside ourselves, out into our environment and then
back inside again, allowing our new experiences to connect and integrate with the memory
of what we already know (ocean example)
• Through Transcendental Meditation, we wake up the ocean of consciousness inside
ourselves and enliven our ability to gain inner and outer knowledge. On this basis, our
thoughts become powerful and clear, producing fulfilment, purposeful actions, which in turn
bring achievement and fulfilment
13. Knowledge is structured in consciousness
• For knowledge to become knowledge there has to be a knower – someone to take in the
knowledge from the outside and process it on the inside. You!
• Everything we know (inside and outside) depends on our level of consciousness
• Knowledge changes when our state of consciousness changes (waking, dreaming, sleeping,
transcending)
• The world is as we are: outer perceptions depend on inner awareness; green glasses – green
world, red glasses – red world
• Through Transcendental Meditation, our consciousness becomes bright and clear, and we
experience the full value of knowledge inside and out – life in enlightenment
14. Harmony exists in diversity
• Harmony amidst diversity is the nature of life
• An artist combines colour and shape to make a painting and a scientist integrates facts to
develop a theory
• Transcendental Meditation takes our attention inside to the level of life’s unity and enlivens
its harmonising power in the diversity of our lives – and our ability to appreciate the harmony
that exists amidst the diversity everywhere
15. Wholeness is contained in every part
• Wholeness of the pizza in every slice and the nature of water in every drop
• The unified field is present everywhere
• Through Transcendental Meditation we experience the field of unbounded wholeness and
realise our own true nature
16. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
• A house is more than a collection of bricks
• Individual musicians come together to create an orchestra
• The nature of life is to grow towards that whole which is bigger, greater and more than all the
individual parts of life (pair 1 and 16)
• The field of our own pure consciousness, the unified field of all the laws of nature, is the
whole that is contained in every part, that contains every part, that is greater than the sum of
all the parts
• Awakening this great, big wholeness in our awareness through our practice of
Transcendental Meditation brings us to a state of complete fulfilment, the state of
enlightenment
• This is your destiny

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle One: The nature of life is to grow
Wholeness of the lesson – More and more
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “What is the nature of creation? What is the nature of life? When we
look around, we find that everything is growing, evolving, progressing. Progress, evolution,
growth is the nature of life. Throughout creation, wherever life expresses itself, it expresses itself
in the tendency to grow towards more and more.”
We see this fundamental law of nature at every level of creation. We look around us and
everywhere we see that different forms of life naturally grow towards more and more fullness.
Children grow into adults, seeds grow into a variety of flowers, plants and trees. We also see
this natural tendency of life to grow and progress in our desires and plans for our own lives. We
naturally want greater happiness, greater knowledge and understanding, to achieve more and
more: and it is by gaining more knowledge and learning more about ourselves and about the
world around us that we grow in happiness and are able to achieve what we want. Maharishi
teaches that “the expansion of happiness is the purpose of life, and evolution is the process
through which it is fulfilled.” Regular TM is the most effective, simple and natural way to personal
growth and evolution. When we do our TM our mind spontaneously goes to the field of pure
creative intelligence – the unified field – that is the source of all growth and progress. When we
enliven the unified field all outer aspects of our life naturally progress and grow. We grow in
health, happiness, intelligence, creativity, enjoyment and success.
Everywhere we look we observe life growing, expanding its territory of influence. We see that
growth is always toward more and more: a tiny seed grows to become a great tree; students
grow to become adults, and everyone aspires to be all that he or she can be – to live their full
potential and contribute the maximum to their society. This principle describes the fundamental
impulse of all living things to grow to their full potential, to find fulfilment. Seeds become trees,
children become adults and puppies become mature dogs. Everything is always growing. We
are, too.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle One: The nature of life is to grow
Main point 1: Everywhere we look, we see life growing
• Seeds sprout; DNA unfolds to become a whole organism; cells become tissue; children
become adults; businesses develop; technology advances; even the universe itself expands
• No matter what form growth takes, it is always toward more and more – more knowledge,
more skill, more influence, more creativity, more power, more success and more happiness
Main point 2: With growth comes expansion of territory of influence
• Examples in our lives:
o Physical growth leads to greater physical skills
o Intellectual growth leads to greater understanding and ability to find solutions to
problems/challenges, which in turn gives us greater skill in our activities
o The growth of our hearts leads to more fulfilling relationships
• Examples in science:
o Progress in science occurs as scientists discover more and more about the laws of
nature. On the basis of their discoveries, they are able to explain more and more about
how the universe functions
o Greater ability to understand something leads to a greater ability to apply that
knowledge, i.e. to create technologies and predict outcomes, which leads to an
expansion of the scientists’ “territory of influence”, enabling them to affect more and
more people, places and things

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle One: The nature of life is to grow
Main point 3: Everything grows to reach its full potential – to become all that it can be
• Everything has its own destiny. The seed becomes the tree. The caterpillar becomes the
butterfly
• Our destiny is the complete fulfilment and unshakeable inner happiness that comes with full
development of our consciousness – life in enlightenment. In this state, we are able to know
anything, do anything and achieve any great goal
Main point 4: When we meditate in groups, we expand our territory of influence and
nourish the whole world. The Maharishi Effect creates an indomitable (strong) influence
of positivity and coherence
• Just as the seed contains the whole tree, so growth is really just awakening, or unfolding
what is already there. By awakening it in ourselves, we have the ability to awaken it
everywhere
In light of culture, tradition and family – One of the fundamentals of culture is Growth
Our cultures and traditions also help us grow by deepening our awareness of ourselves and by
expanding our appreciation of our connection to our families, communities and nation. When we
meditate, we are tapping into the source of all cultures, the infinite organising power and
intelligence of natural law that runs the whole universe every day – and making it our own. This
is how we grow to complete fulfilment, the state of life where we can know anything, do anything
and achieve any great goal. This is our full potential.
Example: In many countries, the citizens put their money into savings accounts which bear
interest and allow the money to grow. Some citizens also invest money in reliable companies by
buying shares or stocks in those companies; their goal is to grow their investments.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Two: Order is present everywhere
Wholeness of the lesson: Everything in the right place and time
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “An apple tree will only produce apples because creative intelligence
is systematic, it is not chaotic. Otherwise, you may hope for an apple from the tree, but you will
get bananas from it. Creative Intelligence is definite, precise and orderly. That is why there is
order in creation. For any progress there has to be order, otherwise you may feel you are
progressing since you are walking, but you could be walking one step one way and one step the
other way. If there is no direction in the ways the steps fall, there is not progress in any direction.
Therefore, for progress to be significant and useful it must be orderly. Creative intelligence has
that orderly quality built into its progressive nature.”
Perfect orderliness is a quality of the Unified field, the field of pure intelligence. This order is
expressed by the laws of nature, which arise from the unified field, in systematic and sequential
steps towards specific goals. We see the infinite organising power of nature’s intelligence
expressed with precision and order throughout creation – from the movement of the galaxies to
the development of human physiology. Because creative intelligence is at the basis of the
diversity of the universe nothing is random or chaotic – order is present everywhere – when we
meditate regularly, transcend and experience pure consciousness, we become more orderly.
“This unified field is really the level from which nature functions, from which nature computes all
the activity in the universe. If we look to the universe as a lesson, we see tremendous precision
and orderliness, displayed in its functioning….it is our experience that when the mind becomes
grounded in this unified field from which nature computes all activity in the universe, the
individual shares more and more of this capability of nature.”
Order is present everywhere because the unified field is a field of perfect order that gives rise to
and permeates everything in the universe. From the flow of the seasons, to the functioning of an
ecosystem, to the structure of our physiology and the routines of our lives, order structures
progress, reliability, harmony and strength on every level of life. When we meditate, we begin to
spontaneously express the orderliness of the unified field in everything we do and appreciate it
more and more in the world around us. When large groups of people practice the TM-Sidhi
programme together, they enliven the orderliness of the unified field to bring coherence, strength
and progress to the whole society. For something to grow towards its full potential, growth has
to be orderly, sequential and step-by-step. Order gives the proper direction to growth. Apple
seeds only grow into apple trees, not mango trees. Foals only grow up to be horses, not lions.
Night always follows day. Summer always follows spring.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Two: Order is present everywhere
Main point 1: The unified field of all the laws of nature is a field of perfect order,
permeating and organising everything everywhere
• We can think of the universe as a gigantic jigsaw puzzle, with many pieces. We are the
pieces; so are the stars, the plants, the animals, the oceans and the insects. We are all
pieces of the universe. The inherent order of the unified field of all the laws of nature,
organises all the pieces into the precisely functioning universe, like a mosaic, where
everything fits together.
Main point 2: Because the unified field of all the laws of nature is present everywhere, we
can locate order at every level of life in the universe
• Order is precise, purposeful and systematic. It creates the reliable framework for progress,
harmony and strength. It is easy to see the powerful impact of order wherever we find it – in
nature, in different fields of knowledge, in the structure of community life and in the simple
activities of our days.
• We find the same orderly precision and purposefulness in our own physiology. Our hearts
beat, our brains compute, our muscles move and our ears hear. Our fingers show up on our
hands, not on our feet. All the organs, systems and cells in our bodies are designed for a
specific location and job, working together to enable us to breath, to walk, to smile and to
think
Main point 3: Regular contact with the field of perfect order during the practice of the
Transcendental Meditation programme allows us to make maximum use of the strength,
precision and harmony of the orderliness of the unified field.
• When we are enlightened, our awareness is permanently established in the unified field. In
this state, all our thoughts and actions are in tune with the laws of nature that organise the
whole universe. We are coherent, purposeful, progressive and powerful and never make
mistakes! Instead, we are always in the right place at the right time doing the right thing –
automatically. This is one of the most profound benefits of the Transcendental Meditation
programme: the increasing frequency in our lives of the experience of “spontaneous right
action” (creating luck)
• When we are enlightened, our awareness is so expanded that we are able to perceive the
perfect order of the unified field, even on the surface of life.
Main point 4: The Maharishi Effect is an expression of the orderliness of the unified field
producing spontaneous right action on the level of society as a whole
• Just as a radio transmitter creates waves in the electromagnetic field, individuals constantly
create influences everywhere simply because the field of consciousness permeates every
aspect of the material universe. The Maharishi Effect is the influence of coherence or
orderliness created in society when groups of individuals enliven the orderliness of the unified
field of all the laws of nature through their group practice of the Transcendental Meditation
(1% of the population) and TM-Sidhi programmes (square root of 1%), enabling an entire
population to spontaneously act more coherently, more harmoniously and more in accord
with natural law.
35
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Two: Order is present everywhere
Main point 5: Coherence and power go hand in hand
• The third law of thermodynamics tells us that when a system is cooled down, it increases in
orderliness. The Meissner effect gives an example of what happens when ordinary metals
cool to very low temperatures, thus increasing the orderliness of their internal structure, they
become superconductors. The electrons in a superconductor are so orderly, so collectively
coherent that they spontaneously expel external magnetic fields, maintaining absolute
impenetrability or invincibility. The Maharishi Effect “cools down” the collective
consciousness of a nation, creating coherence or order, which spontaneously keeps negative
influences from entering a country. This is the basis of invincibility for the nation.
In light of culture, tradition and family – One of the fundamentals of culture – Stability
The routines and traditions of our culture enliven orderliness and stability in our lives. When we
meditate, we enliven the unified field, the field of perfect orderliness, in our own awareness and
awaken nature’s organising power in our lives.
Example: In Ecclesiastes, there is a famous verse: “To everything there is a season and a time
to every purpose under heaven.”

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Three: Life is found in layers
Wholeness of the lesson: Life’s universal system of order
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “Creative Intelligence
expressing itself in different layers, one within the
other, manifests in the entire diversity of the universe:
the mind and then the senses and then the entire
creation”
“The mind is that organ of creative intelligence which is
capable of appreciating the total range of creative
intelligence in both directions – towards subtler values
until the unmanifest value of life is reached and
towards greater manifestations until the ultimate limit
of cosmic life is reached, the mind is capable of
comprehending the fullness of life, from cosmic life to
the tiniest, most minute individuality”
We know that “order is present everywhere”. This orderly structure of the universe unfolds
sequentially – layer upon layer. We discover this by observing nature and life all around us and
through our studies. Each layer of creation has its own characteristics and Maharishi explains
that each layer has its own level of intelligence and consciousness and its own laws of nature
by which it is governed. The earth’s crust has layers. The atmosphere of the earth has more
layers. In our own lives we experience layers of existence: in our relationships with other people
– our families, close friends, classmates, our community; there are layers in our bodies – skin,
fat, muscle, bone and there are the increasingly subtle levels – the senses, the mind, the
intellect, feeling, ego and ultimately pure consciousness – the field of pure creative intelligence.
This is what we experience when we transcend the finest level of thought during TM and
experience the source of thought that underlies our ability to speak, act, accomplish and enjoy.
This field, the home of all the laws of nature, is the same unified field which is now being
recognised as the source of all the force and matter fields that structure the universe.
The order of the universe is structured in layers – from sub-atomic particles to concrete objects.
Everywhere we look, we can see the layers of life, one within the other. Each layer has its own
characteristics and laws. Their common source is the deepest layer of life: the unified field of all
the laws of nature, which we experience during our regular practice of the Transcendental
Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes. As human beings, we have the ability to fathom all of
life’s layers – from the source to the surface. Everything in the universe is made up of layers.
These layers are the expression of the order that’s found everywhere. Look at a piece of fruit,
for example. First, we see the outer layer, the skin that protects the soft inner juicy part, which
covers the next layer, the seed. Our bodies are made up of layers, too – from the skin, muscles,
bones and all the way through to the cells and atoms. It is the same with the layers of our mind
– the very active, of the thought-filled level we are all familiar with, the quieter and quieter levels
we experience when we are meditating – and of course, there’s the deepest, most silent level,
the field of pure consciousness itself, Transcendental Consciousness, which is the deepest level
of the entire universe, the unified field – which we enliven every time we practice our
Transcendental Meditation technique.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Three: Life is found in layers
Main point 1: The order of the universe is structured in layers
• Everywhere we look we can see the orderly structure of the universe unfolding sequentially
– layer upon layer – from the earth’s crust to the earth’s atmosphere; from the seed of the
fruit to the skin; from subatomic particles to all the concrete objects we see around us
Main point 2: Every layer of life has its
own characteristics and laws to help
guide its growth and progress
• Each layer of physical matter
discovered by physics has its own
characteristics and laws by which it is
governed. The characteristics of
atomic particles, for example, are
different from the material objects we
can see around us.
• The laws of nature are expressed
differently at each level of the universe
for example molecular, atomic, subatomic; beehives – queens, drones,
worker bees; food chain in an
ecosystem
Main point 3: We can find layers in every aspect of our own lives
• From the layers of our homes (for example foundation, floors, ceiling, roof, interior wall,
wiring, insulation, exterior wall); to the organisation of the grade levels in our school; from
the harmonies in our favourite songs, to the layers in the foods we eat, or in the clothing we
wear; from the chapters in the books we read, to the different layers of our personalities (e.g.
thinking, feeling, speaking, behaving); from the layers of the generations in our families, to
the layers in our government, to the layers of our physiology, to the layers of our mind – we
see layers everywhere.
Main point 4: All layers of life have a common source: the unified field of all the laws of
nature, our own consciousness.
• The unified field exists at every point in the universe; it is the source of the order, or unity
that harmonises all the diversity in the universe. When we meditate, we contact this
fundamental layer inside our own consciousness, enlivening the intelligence, harmony and
order throughout every other layer or level of our lives.
38
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Three: Life is found in layers
Main point 5: Human beings have the unique ability to fathom all the layers of life, from
the silent, unmanifest field of pure consciousness to the surface levels of our thinking,
speech, appearance, behaviour and environment
• As our consciousness wakes up to its unbounded nature through our regular practice of the
Transcendental Meditation technique, we begin to experience and perceive the silent layer
of pure consciousness even on the surface level of life. In the state of enlightenment, we are
self-referral and act in complete accord with the home of all the laws of nature, gaining
support of total natural law for everything we do.
In light of culture, tradition and family – the layers of culture and tradition
The traditions of our cultures have layers, too. When we perform a religious ritual, for example,
we might do something like light a candle. Deeper inside ourselves, we might be saying a prayer
and still deeper inside our awareness, we might be experiencing some peace and happiness.
Example: In many countries, the organisation of a standard corporation is such that the owners
or shareholders elect the board of directors, who selects the president, who hires the vicepresidents of sales, production and finance. Within each of these departments are further
divisions.
39
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Four: Outer depends on Inner
Wholeness of the lesson:
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “The environment
reflects the quality of the individual. The house
expresses the man who lives in it. No healthy man
will live in a dingy house, he must make it better. It
is natural for him to improve his surroundings. A
fully developed, happy, healthy, fulfilled life
radiates that happiness, that health, in the
environment. If the juice is sweet, the orange will
radiate a sweet smell. It is the inner value that
radiates outside”
All of life consists of outer activity which arises from
inner silence – the field of pure intelligence. This
principle is obvious in our own lives. If we get
enough sleep, eat fresh healthy food and exercise our bodies, we both look and feel good. If we
are feeling good, we approach our day positively and with confidence. If we are feeling down or
angry, this influences how we relate to other people. The size, shape, colour and specific
characteristics (outer) of plants and animals are determined by the genes or inner intelligence.
Everything that people create – art, literature, music, science, technology – is an expression of
the unique qualities within them. With regular TM we are repeatedly experiencing the pure field
of Creative Intelligence, the home of all the laws of nature. We are growing in inner fullness of
life which is the basis for success and fulfilment in all the outer aspects of our life.
The order of the universe is structured in layers. If we look
more deeply, we find that the inner layers of life support,
uphold, nourish and give rise to all the outer layers. When we
meditate, we contact the innermost layer of life – pure
consciousness – and spontaneously enrich all the other
layers of our lives. Outer layers of life always depend on the
deeper ones, the inner ones. Why is that? Because, as we
know from science, the inner layers of everything are always
more powerful, more orderly and more intelligent than the
surface layers. The inner layers support and nourish the outer
ones. For example, the health of our bodies depends on the
orderly and integrated functioning of our organs, our
hormones and all the systems that work together inside us to
allow us to breathe or digest our food, or run a race. The
strength of the tree depends on the nutrients supplied by its
sap. And, of course, the power of our minds depends on the
wakefulness of our consciousness. Transcendental
Consciousness is a state of total wakefulness, which grows
and grows in our lives as we meditate.
40
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Four: Outer depends on Inner
Main point 1: The hierarchy of nature’s universal system of order – outer depends on
inner
• The outer layers depend on the inner ones in many different ways – a building depends on
its inner foundation; machines depend on their inner mechanisms; nations depend on their
citizens.
• DNA: the blueprint for every living organism is contained in its DNA. Throughout nature,
everything that lives relies on the hidden inner intelligence coded in its DNA to provide the
“instructions” for how the outer form will be expressed. This is true whether the outer form is
a delicate wildflower, a massive elephant or our own body. The DNA determines whether a
flower will have blue petals or red ones; whether a fruit will be sweet or sour, hard or soft,
red, orange, green or yellow; whether we will have brown hair or black, blue eyes or green;
how an animal will live, whether it will have a hard shell, or six legs or penetrating sight or
hearing
• Atoms and molecules: All objects in the universe are made up of microscopic building blocks
called atoms. Atoms join together with each other to form more complex building blocks
called molecules. Molecules join together to form all the materials that make up the objects
we see around us. For example, milk is made of molecules that make it white and creamy.
Wool is made of molecules that make it soft and warm.
Main point 2: The outer levels of our lives depend on the inner levels
• Our interactions with the world depend on how we feel or how we perceive the world. How
our family and friends respond to us depends on their own unique perceptions, inner qualities
and feelings.
• All of our everyday activities depend on something inside our bodies. Eating when we’re
hungry, sleeping when we’re tired or running when we’re late – all these depend on
responses inside our bodies, as our brains communicate with our heart, lungs, muscles or
stomach.
• The achievements of the great men and women of every culture reflect their inner qualities
such as creativity, energy, compassion, wisdom and broad vision. All successful people know
that their most creative actions come from deep within themselves. Their inner qualities give
rise to all their outer achievements and to their many contributions to society. For example,
Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest composers of Western classical music, wrote
some of his most inspiring pieces after he had lost his hearing. The music came from the
richness of feeling deep within his heart.
Main point 3: The innermost layer of life is the unified field
• The desire for complete knowledge of how the universe functions naturally leads scientists
to probe deeper and deeper into its structure, culminating in the discovery by modern physics
that the deepest level of life, the unified field, is the source of all the energy and matter in the
universe.
41
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Four: Outer depends on Inner
Main point 4: We know from both the science of consciousness and modern physics, that
the unified field is the home of all the laws of nature that give rise to and govern
everything everywhere – an unbounded, unmanifest, unchanging field of creativity and
intelligence, a field of all possibilities hidden deep within every particle in the universe.
We also learned that the unified field, being the source of everything, is self-referral – it
needs nothing outside of itself. It is also fully awake within itself
• Many of us experience the silent inner wakeful quality of the unified field in the simplest state
our own awareness during our practice of Transcendental Meditation. This experience of
pure wakefulness is the experience of Transcendental Consciousness – it is beyond all
thought and all sensory experiences. Because consciousness is awake, it must be awake to
something and because consciousness is at the basis of everything else, the only thing that
it can be awake to is itself. We call this the self-referral nature or structure of pure
consciousness.
Main point 5: When consciousness is awake to itself, it knows itself. When
consciousness knows itself, it becomes both the knower and that which is known. When
the knower knows the known, the dynamics are called the process of knowing.
• We can think of the self-referral nature of consciousness like seeing ourselves in a mirror.
Only instead of seeing three different things – ourselves, the mirror and the image, in the
case of our self-referral consciousness, the three elements – knower, process of knowing
and known are the same thing – our own consciousness knowing itself.
• Knowledge always consists of these three “parts”. A knower, who does the knowing, about
the known
42
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Four: Outer depends on Inner
Main point 6: The interactions between the knower, process of knowing and known,
within the unified field of pure consciousness, are the source of all the laws of nature and
our entire physical universe
• Just as when a person sings a song music is
created, or when a painter paints a picture, art is
created; or when the soccer team plays a game,
sport is created – so too, when consciousness
knows itself, or we could say, when
consciousness (the unified field) interacts with
itself, it creates a stir in the silent, unbounded field
of pure consciousness – and all the laws of nature
begin to wake up and the universe is created.
• This is the deepest value of the fourth principle of
creative intelligence: the (inner) self-interacting
dynamics of consciousness are responsible for all
the (outer) manifest layers of the universe.
• The laws of nature, enlivened by the selfinteracting dynamics of consciousness knowing
itself, are the basis of our ever-expanding
universe. Just like a stir at the bottom of the ocean
gives rise to all the waves at the top, that first
impulse of consciousness being aware of itself –
the move or reverberation, of consciousness
knowing itself – ultimately gives rise to the whole
material universe.
Main point 7: When we practice the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes, we awaken this innermost level of the whole universe to enrich all the outer
levels of our lives
• Ultimately, the creativity, intelligence, strength and energy of every individual comes from the
innermost layer of life: the unified field. How much these qualities of the unified field are lively
in us, depends on our connection to this deepest level
In light of culture, tradition and family
The culture and traditions of our families, communities, even the laws of our nation depend on
the inner laws of nature that give rise to geography and climate of our countryside.
Example: From the Bible, Proverbs 23:7: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”
Afrikaans: “Wat die hart van vol is loop die mond oor” (Direct translation: what fills your heart will
pour from your mouth)
43
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Five: Seek the Highest first
Wholeness of the lesson: water the root to enjoy the fruit
This principle is very easy to understand if we
remember the primary school explanation “water the
root to enjoy the fruit”. Maharishi also often uses the
example of a territory in which the gold, silver and
diamond mines are all controlled from one fort. It is
much easier to capture the fort than it is to gain the
mines one by one. When we capture the fort, we get
the benefit of owning all the mines at once and also
gain the whole territory. When we practice TM
regularly, we are capturing the home of all the laws
of nature (the unified field, pure consciousness) in
our awareness and in that way, we gain the full
support of natural law for all our aspirations. We
want to be successful and fulfilled in everything we
do – family life, school and work, sports and
hobbies, social life. By practicing our TM technique regularly and then going into activity we are
attending to the highest values of life first and every area of life will be spontaneously enriched
and supported.
The total potential of natural law exists deep within every particle in the universe, including within
us. By establishing our awareness in this deepest, or “highest” level – the unified field, the field
of pure consciousness – we gain support of all the laws of nature to fulfil our desires and achieve
any great goal we might want for our lives. Seek the highest first is an instruction for our growth:
choose the innermost layer to enrich all outer fields of life. This principle reminds us that because
“outer depends on inner”, we should look to the “innermost” (the highest) to improve everything
on the “outer”. “Seek the highest first” offers a direction for life. We have so many things we want
to do in our lives – and so many things to learn. If we want to be a good soccer player, we will
look for the best coach, the person with the most knowledge and skill to teach us. And if we want
to be able to naturally live in tune with our culture, we have to awaken the source of all culture
inside our own awareness – the unified field of natural law. For the most complete knowledge of
everything we might want to know, we have to find the source of all knowledge. The deepest,
most powerful level in the universe is the home of all knowledge, the Unified Field. If you own
that field on the level of our own consciousness you will control everything. Maharishi uses
analogies, including: water the root to enjoy the fruit; capture the fort to own the territory.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Five: Seek the Highest first
Main point 1: In every area of our life, we can find a “highest” value. Choosing to give our
attention to this value, increases our knowledge, skill, enjoyment and success on every
level
• Learning: seeking the best source of knowledge: parents, teachers, coaches. Understanding
the wholeness of a subject
• It is your choice – prioritise – every action has a reaction
Main point 2: The whole field of science is an expression of “seeking the highest”
• Scientists know that if they want to truly understand the phenomenon they are studying, they
have to probe as deeply as they can into the laws of nature governing the phenomenon so
they can locate the “highest” (most reliable and comprehensive) knowledge about it. The
reason scientists take their attention to deeper levels is because the deeper levels of
something (whether a living organism, table, a chemical, or an electrical field) are more
powerful, more comprehensive, more far-reaching in their impact than its outer levels.
Main point 3: We contact the unified field through our regular practice of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes and gain the support of all the laws
of nature to fulfil our desires
• The unified field of all the laws of nature is the switchboard for the whole universe, found in
every point in the universe, from deep within our own consciousness to the farthest reaches
of the galaxies. As the home of all the laws of nature, the unified field is like a cosmic
computer, organising everything from within itself, so that the whole universe runs smoothly
– from the expansion of the galaxies to the motion of the planets; from the food chain in an
ecosystem, to the functioning of the cells in our bodies; from the chemical reactions between
molecules, to the behaviour of the electrons in an atom.
• By contacting this field twice a day, every day, we automatically begin to engage the cosmic
computer that organises the universe to help us achieve everything great and nourishing that
we want to for our lives and the world
Main point 4: Four simple analogies remind us of the value of seeking the highest first
for maximum success in any field of life
• Water the root to enjoy the fruit
Capture the fort to own the territory
Befriend the General Manager to gain the instant respect and support of all the employees
Go to the bank first to enjoy the market
• In the same way, we have the choice to try to fulfil every desire and goal we might have for
our lives one by one, or we can simply harness the support of the total potential of natural
law (the highest) within our own consciousness and let the laws of nature that guide the
entire universe organise for the fulfilment of all of our desires spontaneously.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Five: Seek the Highest first
Main point 5: The “highest”, most fundamental level of life is the field of our own pure
consciousness, the unified field of all the laws of nature. We seek this first, because it is
the one field of life, by handling (“using”) which, all other are spontaneously nourished
• “Seek the highest first” is a wonderful directive for our lives because it is actually easier to
gain the highest than it is to choose something of lesser value. The Transcendental
Meditation technique is a simple, natural technique that enables us to effortlessly turn our
attention inward, by making use of the natural tendency of the mind to move toward more
and more – more charm, more bliss, more power, more fulfilment. There is nothing more
blissful than the unified field, so the mind is spontaneously drawn to it. By doing this one
thing, we accomplish all things – we water the root of our Self, to capture the fort of our life
and gain access to the treasury of the whole universe.
• And because we all share the same “fort” the same “root”, the same “bank” – the same field
of pure consciousness – practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes together, like we do at school every day, we are able to enliven the home of all
the laws of nature for everyone
In light of culture, tradition and family – Enlivening the source of all culture
When seeking advice, guidance and direction, we speak to our parents or elders. We approach
the village king or leader when we want to discuss situations in the village. In companies and
also universities, there is a process to follow.
Example: In the Bible: Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Six: Rest and activity are the steps of progress
Wholeness of the lesson: Integrating the inner and outer values of life
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “Creative Intelligence, this impelling life force, is structured in the
repeated cycle of stop and start….activity balanced with rest produces maximum results in a
sustained and natural manner.”
We see this at every level – from the unified field of all the laws on nature to our daily lives. The
unified field contains both the quality of infinite silence and the quality of infinite dynamism. As
the ocean rises in waves of water so the unified field rises in waves of creation. These waves of
creation progress in cycles of rest and activity, silence and dynamism. In nature day follows
night in steps of rest and activity. The cycle of the seasons allows plants and animals a time to
rest and a time to be active. If we are fresh and rested in mind and body we can think more
clearly and be more successful in action than when we are over-tired. The rest of Transcendental
Meditation is the deepest kind of rest that the mind and body can receive. It is a state of restful
alertness. By alternating regularly morning and evening, TM with activity, the restful state of
mind and body that we experience when we mediate (4th state of consciousness, transcendental
consciousness) begins to be maintained more and more in activity. When we enjoy restful
alertness permanently along with full activity then we are living life in enlightenment. (5th state of
consciousness, cosmic consciousness)
Cycles of rest and activity structure all
progress and growth in life. By alternating the
deep rest gained through the regular practice
of the Transcendental Meditation technique
with the activity of our daily lives, we reach
the highest level of life: enlightenment.
Maharishi explains that just as we use two
feet when we are walking, progress also has
two feet. The resting foot is the foundation for
the active one. It gives us the balance we
need to move forward. We can see this
principle everywhere around us. We sleep
first, then we enjoy the day. We study first,
then we present what we know. We meditate
first, then act with a clearer mind. Everywhere
in nature we see cycles of rest and activity as
well: in winter, nature rests before the activity
of spring; day always follows night. Let’s see how this principle unfolds from the previous one:
“Seek the highest first”. If we want to gain the “highest” in life, the way to do it is through steps
of rest and activity. What is the “highest”? The state of enlightenment, a state of complete
fulfilment. We grow to enlightenment through alternating the steps of rest and activity, meditation
and action. The deep rest we gain when we practice the Transcendental Meditation technique
releases deep stresses in our physiology. Our daily activity helps integrate the restfulness we
gain during our meditation. Through the regular alternation of the Transcendental Meditation
technique and activity, we culture our physiology and awareness to be able to maintain the
experience of deep inner silence all the time and we enjoy the state of enlightenment. When we
become Enlightened, we own the unified field in our awareness all the time; we “capture the fort”
of the whole universe – progress is fulfilled.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Six: Rest and activity are the steps of progress
Main point 1: Rest is the basis of activity
• Cycles of rest and activity abound in nature: night and day; waking and sleeping; winter and
summer; dormancy and germination. The deeper our rest, the more dynamic our action
• We need both rest and activity to move forward – the more profound the rest, the greater the
achievement. So, we transcend, and then we act. By adding the much deeper rest gained
through the Transcendental Meditation programme we can dramatically improve the quality
of our lives in every way
Main point 2: The steps of progress are just like the steps we take when we walk
• When we walk, one foot is active, moving forward; our other foot is resting, providing the
stable basis of our body’s movement. Our whole body balances on the resting foot and then
the other foot moves ahead.
• Whether we are considering what to wear or what to say; whether we are deciding what to
eat or what to do; whether we are writing an essay, solving a math problem or filling out a
job application; a quiet thoughtful step comes before the active one. The active step then
integrates the quietness, it allows us to apply the knowledge or understanding that comes to
us during the restful step. This is how we make progressive choices for ourselves.
• In the world of music, the “rests” or pauses between notes, add emotion, anticipation and
texture to the music. In the world of sports, half-times, time-outs, even the training regimes
of athletes uphold this principle. In the cardiac cycle in our bodies; in the inhaling and exhaling
of the breath; in the eating and digesting of food; in the weekly routines of our culture; in the
cycles of hibernation and activity; in the growth of scientific understanding, from observation
to theory to application – everything progresses through the alternating steps of rest and
activity
48
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Six: Rest and activity are the steps of progress
Main point 3: We meditate, and we act to develop our full potential
• We sleep every night to refresh ourselves for the
coming day. We practice the Transcendental
Meditation technique to release the deeper
stresses that sleep may not reach, so that we can
become all that we are meant to be. We rise to
enlightenment, the highest level of life, by
alternating the deep rest of the Transcendental
Meditation technique with the activity of daily life
– both steps are necessary to successfully reach
the goal
• Fading the cloth: before the invention of colourfast dyes, two steps were necessary to make
colours stay permanently – first, dip the cloth in
the dye and soak up the colour and second, hang
the cloth in the sun to fade. Each time, the sun
fades away most of the colour, but a little more of the colour remains in the cloth. Eventually,
the alternation between the dyeing and the fading creates the ability in the cloth to
permanently hold the colour. In the same way, we meditate and act, meditate and act, until
all the infinite silence of the unified field – the unbounded field of our own pure consciousness
– “sticks” or “holds fast” to our physiology and awareness.
• Transcending during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation programme is like
“soaking” our awareness in the ocean of pure consciousness. It’s just like diving – no matter
how deep we go, we always come out wet. When we come out of meditation and engage in
activity, most of that silent, unbounded value fades from our awareness, but a little bit more
remains each time. Over time, more and more of the unboundedness “sticks” to us, until
eventually we are permanently saturated with that silence, never losing contact with its power
and support, even in the midst of dynamic activity
Main point 4: Enlightenment is that state of life where we are always resting even in the
midst of dynamic activity
• In the same way that we carry the restfulness of a good night’s sleep, we begin to “carry” the
unified field of all the laws of nature into our daily activity. At first our physiology can only
maintain the experience of the unified field when nothing else is going on, when we transcend
all activity. As more and more stresses are released over time, we find ourselves able to
experience more and more of that restful, unbounded, transcendental value throughout our
daily activity
• Through the regular alternation of the Transcendental Meditation technique and activity, we
culture the ability of our physiology and awareness to maintain the experience of deep inner
silence all the time. In the state of enlightenment, our progress is fulfilled. All the stresses
and strains are gone, and our physiology is functioning as it was designed to function; it has
become flexible enough to maintain the restful experience of pure consciousness 24 hours
a day no matter where we are or what we’re doing.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Six: Rest and activity are the steps of progress
In light of culture, tradition and family – cycles of renewal
In our cultures and traditions, there are always cycles of renewal, resting days, holidays, harvest
festivals, routines of life that swing from silence to dynamism. The alternation of the steps of rest
and activity brings progress.
Example: In many countries around the world, it is common for young children to take naps in
the afternoons. Also, mothers teach their children to get rest at night in order to enjoy the day.
A bread-maker knows it is important to both knead the dough (activity) and let it rise (rest). In
the Bible it is written that the creation of the world was a process of seven days: the first six were
devoted to active creating and on the seventh day, God rested and blessed His creation.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Seven: Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
Wholeness of the lesson: Do less and accomplish more
We already know that Maharishi teaches us that the purpose of life is the expansion of
happiness: the natural direction of our lives and of all life around us, is towards more – more joy
and more fulfilment. This principle tells us something extra: when we are flowing in the natural
direction of life, enjoying everything we do, we naturally act efficiently, wisely and well and
spontaneously accomplish more. In our hobbies, with our families and friends, at school and on
the sports field, enjoying what we do helps us to do it well. When we enjoy doing something,
when we feel happy inside, it is because our own creative intelligence is lively, and bliss is
flowing from within to give energy and creativity to whatever we are doing. TM is a special way
to enliven our creative intelligence and inner happiness so that we can enjoy all that we do and
also grow in skill and accomplishment in everything we do. The field of pure creative intelligence
is the home of all the laws of nature. With regular TM, we open our awareness to this field and
gain support of the laws of nature – we gain support for efficient activity and greater
accomplishment.
Efficiency is the ability to do less and accomplish more, by taking the path of least action to
reach a goal – whether we are pulling the arrow back on the bow, following the advice of an
expert or making a shopping list. When we transcend during our practice of the Transcendental
Meditation technique, we are essentially pulling back the arrow of our awareness, taking a
“pathless path” to awaken the total potential of natural law inside our own consciousness and
provide us with everything we need to accomplish anything for ourselves and our world. This
principle tells us that nature always chooses the most efficient path to reach any goal, the path
of least action. Water flows down the hill not up; in a single action, bees pollinate flowers and
gather nectar for honey; light takes the shortest possible path between an object and our eye. If
we want to be successful, we have to be efficient. We have to be smart. We have to do what
nature does. We have to know what Maharishi describes as the shortest, sweetest way to the
goal. People who are good at something know this. They know the shortest, sweetest way to
the goal. They know how to do less and accomplish more. They know you pull the arrow back
to hit the target. Much more efficient than running with the arrow to the target. By meditating, we
do “least” (we transcend all “doing”) and accomplish everything by gaining the total support of
natural law for everything we want to accomplish in our lives. By alternating our regular practice
of the Transcendental Meditation technique with our daily activity we grow in our capacity for
maximum enjoyment, efficiency and success.
51
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Seven: Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
Main point 1: Do less and accomplish more
• Efficiency is the ability to do less and accomplish more – it is the ability to take the shortest,
most effective path to the goal. Wherever we see success, we will find expressions of
efficiency – from simple techniques and technologies that minimise energy and time (e.g.
lists, internet, machines), to the organisational structure and relationships in a system (e.g.
earthworms, bees and flowers), to the advice and knowledge of experts.
Main point 2: Pull the arrow back to hit the target
• People who are efficient know the best path, the fastest path, the most nourishing path to
take to reach their goals (e.g. parents, teachers, coaches, business professionals). They
know it makes greater sense to draw back an arrow and then allow the stored-up energy in
the bowstring to do the work of getting the arrow to the target – rather than running the arrow
to the target themselves
• When we transcend during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, we are
essentially pulling back the arrow of our awareness to its own state of restful alertness,
awakening the unbounded potential within ourselves to enable us to soar through our lives
with great power and effectiveness. Contact with the field of restful alertness, the unified field
of all the laws of nature, that absolutely successful, infinitely efficient, organised and powerful
field is what gives us the ability to achieve our goals with maximum efficiency and enjoyment.
52
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Seven: Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
Main point 3: Simplest is best
• Parsimony is a concept in modern science
that tells us: “all things being equal, the
simplest solution tends to be the best one.”
This scientific principle tells us that when
trying to fathom the laws of nature – simplest
is best. We know from our experience of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes just how profound and practical
this approach is. The simplest state of our
own awareness is “best” because it is the
most powerful, most intelligent, most efficient
level of life, containing within itself all the
laws of nature in one place – everything
needed to accomplish anything. In the simplest state of our own awareness, we aren’t
thinking about or trying to grasp, or discover the simplest explanation of the laws of nature
as modern scientists; we have become completely identified with the total potential of natural
law. Our knowledge and experience of natural law elevates the concept of “simplest is best”
to its most profound and most expanded, or cosmic, value.
• Pathless path: because the total potential of natural law is found in every particle in the
universe, to bring the experience of natural law to our awareness simply means being what
we are. The very idea of a path, even if it’s the shortest path we can imagine, suggests a
distance between two objects or a journey from one place to another, like a ball thrown from
one person to another, or the path of the planets around the earth. Total natural law, on the
other hand, is right here, no matter where we are – it is the essential nature of our own Self.
Therefore, the “path” to experience natural law is truly a pathless path to a goal that is already
everywhere.
• As “scientists” or “researchers” of consciousness, directly experiencing the total potential of
natural law in the simplest state of our own awareness, we gain mastery over the laws of
nature on the level of our own Self. On this level, the path and goal are one
• Infinite correlation and Frictionless flow: when groups of people, (like us), practice the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programmes together, they enliven the unified field
of all the laws of nature throughout their environment. It is a field of infinite correlation or
perfect communication, where no time is lost and there is no distortion of the “message” or
information flowing between anything. Instead, there is a frictionless flow between everything
in the universe; in this field an impulse anywhere is an impulse everywhere. In essence, the
unified field of all the laws of nature is the pathless path, which connects us all. It is a path
from here to here.
• Modern science creates technologies like washing machines to clean our cloths; the science
of consciousness offers technologies of consciousness to purify the whole world. One little
technique does it all – in one stroke. Now that’s maximum efficiency.
53
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Seven: Enjoy greater efficiency and accomplish more
In light of culture, tradition and family – the fundamental of culture – adaptability
Just as the experts, cultures and traditions are established to encourage that most efficient,
effective, most nourishing ways to behave in our families, communities and nations.
Example: All over the world, applying the theories of science through technology is a universal
expression of efficiency. Inventive scientists and engineers in countries around the globe are
continually thinking up new ideas and technologies for making life smoother and easier. Cell
phones, digital media players and computers are just a few examples of man applying his
creative intelligence to increase efficiency and enjoyment of life. A new kind of car, the hybrid,
has recently been introduced to the market in response to the increasing need for fuel efficiency.
54
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Eight: Every action has a reaction
Wholeness of the lesson: Everything in creation is interconnected
We experience this principle every day in our own lives in different ways. When we are loving
and kind, others react to us in the same way. If we go to sleep at the right time and eat healthy
food, we are healthy, energetic and enjoy life. If we look after our environment, we will have
clean water and air and enough food. Whatever we think, say or do has a reaction for us and
also for the world around us. Everything in creation is interconnected. We have learned that all
of nature, all creation, arises from the unified field of natural law. When we do TM, we experience
the unified field as pure consciousness or pure creative intelligence. The pure creative
intelligence that we experience when we meditate is the same pure creative intelligence that
creates the world we live in. On the level of pure creative intelligence, pure consciousness,
everything in the universe is connected to everything else. When we do TM, we are becoming
more orderly, creative, intelligent, healthy and happy in ourselves and we are also helping these
positive qualities to grow in society.
Everything in the universe is connected to everything else on the level of the unified field.
Therefore, every action anywhere creates reactions everywhere. This is a very important law of
physics. We act and the world around us reacts. We create a bird feeder and the birds come to
eat. We tell a joke and people laugh. When a star explodes in a galaxy a million light-years away,
the effects of this travel through time and space to reach us at the other end of the universe.
Everything in the universe is connected to everything else, so every action has an influence
everywhere, like ripples spreading in a pond. If we want our actions to produce only good effects
we must act with the accuracy and efficiency of natural law. How do we do this? Act from the
level that organises the whole universe, the level of the unified field. When we act from this level,
all our actions are completely efficient and nourishing to everything and everyone, producing
only life-supporting reactions from the whole universe. (Creating luck)
55
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Eight: Every action has a reaction
Main point 1: The environment reacts to every individual action.
• Every action affects everything everywhere and elicits a
response – or a reaction – everywhere – stones/ripples on
a pond, smile on a bus; day/night; tides; chemical
reactions; digestive system; going to bed early; listening
and studying in class; playing in an orchestra or in a team
• Newton’s third law of motion (for every action there is an
equal and opposite reaction): hammer/nails; swimming
strokes/water; foot/ball.
• Self-interacting dynamics of the unified field (the dynamics
of consciousness knowing itself), which gives rise to all
the laws of nature that unfold and conduct the activity of
the entire universe
Main point 2: We can never compute the influences we have on the rest of the universe –
it’s too vast; the action-reaction cycle is unfathomable. The only way we can ensure that
we are taking the right action in any given situation is to live in complete harmony with
all the laws of nature, so that everything we do will always uphold everything everywhere
• Every action has a reaction tells us that we are very powerful. With that power comes
responsibility, because everything we do affects everything and everyone everywhere. So,
we want to make sure that everything we do creates positive, life-supporting influences in
the environment. By enlivening this unbounded field during our practice of the
Transcendental Meditation technique, we are taking the one action, which alone can increase
our ability to enliven all the nourishing qualities of the unified field for everyone everywhere.
And to increase our power, we can enliven the unified field in a group.
Main point 3: We know that there is one action which can elevate all life on earth
• When large groups of people practice the TM-Sidhi programme together, including Yogic
Flying, they enliven the unified field in the whole collective consciousness of the nation, which
results in enlightened government, a more ideal society and growth of indomitable (invincible)
positivity, harmony and peace, on every level of life. This is the ideal action-reaction cycle.
In light of culture, tradition and family – infinite correlation
Every culture expresses this fundamental law of nature in such concepts as “do unto others as
you would have them do unto you” and “as you sow, so shall you reap”.
Example: In families all over the world, children are taught that everything they do creates
reactions in the environment. Parents give great attention to teaching their children the proper,
respectful way to behave, so that they may nourish and uphold everyone and everything, as a
result, the respect from the whole society. In the Bible: “as ye sow, so shall ye reap”
Children all over the world grow up with some expression of what is frequently referred to in the
Judeo-Christian tradition – the Golden Rule – “Do unto others as you would have them do unto
you”

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Nine: Purification leads to progress
Wholeness of the lesson: The snowplough
In principle eight – every action has
a reaction – we saw that by
contacting pure consciousness, the
unified field of all the laws of nature,
we can gain the support of nature in
all our activities. This principle
teaches us that when we meditate,
the purifying quality of creative
intelligence clears away obstacles to
growth so that we can enjoy every
aspect of our lives. During TM, the
mind naturally settles down to
experience finer and finer states of
thought until it transcends even the
finest level of the thinking process and so experiences pure creative intelligence, the unified
field. As this is happening stress and strain in the nervous system are being cleared away at the
same time. Maharishi uses the example of a snow plough to illustrate this – at the same time as
the plough is moving forward it is clearing great piles of snow that block the road. There are
many examples in our own lives and all around us to demonstrate that purification leads to
progress. When we meditate, we feel fresh and clear – ready for activity. We cannot live happily
and get things done in a dirty and chaotic environment. We keep things clean and orderly to
allow progress. If our thinking is messy or we do not have enough knowledge we will not be able
to solve problems – we sort out our minds and get the necessary knowledge in order to make
progress.
In all aspects of life, when a system or situation is purified, we see progress. When we meditate,
we remove – or purify – all the obstacles on our path like a snowplough throws off snow. As a
result, we enjoy increasingly unrestricted waves of progress in our life. From this principle we
learn how to act so that we can create better and better reactions: purify first and progress will
always follow. When a snowplough moves ahead, it throws off piles of snow. It is simultaneously
removing obstacles and moving forward. The two outcomes always go hand in hand. Clean your
room and you will find your missing
homework. Remove the bicycle from
the middle of the sidewalk and you
will be able to move forward more
quickly. Edit your essay and your
writing will become clearer. In our
meditation, we purify our nervous
system by giving it deep rest, which
dissolves stress and allows us to
spontaneously progress towards our
full potential. Whenever we purify a
system or a situation, progress
always follows. This is a law of nature.
58
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Nine: Purification leads to progress
Main point 1: Purification is an action, which always brings progress (reaction)
• In our lives: cleaning our rooms
In school: writing and rewriting
In our physiology: self-purifying systems support growth and maintain balance – breathing,
blood, kidneys
Main point 2: The march of the mind towards Transcendental Consciousness is capable
of “purifying the path”, or removing the obstacles along the way, just as a snowplough
throws off the heaps of snow that block its path.
• The purification process is like a
snowplough. As a snowplough
moves ahead, it simultaneously
removes obstacles and moves
forward. These two outcomes
always go hand in hand
• The Transcendental Meditation
technique is like a snowplough for
us. As our mind progresses
towards its most settled state, it
also eliminates the blocks on the
way: when our mind settles down,
our body gains the rest it needs to naturally release the impurities – stresses and strain –
that blocks the expression of our full potential. With the Transcendental Meditation technique,
we dissolve not only surface fatigue and stress, but also deep-rooted stresses that we may
have accumulated over the months
and years. When stresses are
eliminated, we think more clearly
and our behaviour is more
effective. Our brain functioning
becomes more integrated and
vital, and we actually reverse the
aging process.
• The Transcendental Meditation
technique “cools down” the
functioning of our nervous system,
thus
increasing
orderliness.
Increased orderliness accelerates
progress
• All we need to do is remove the impurities from our nervous system and our unlimited
potential will spontaneously blossom in its fullness. We can compare the experience of
Transcendental Meditation to dusting off a light bulb. When we clean a light bulb, the full
strength and brilliance of the light immediately shines forth. When we meditate, we “dust off”
our nervous system and spontaneously our great big potential – the totally of natural law –
is revealed and expressed in our lives.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Nine: Purification leads to progress
Main point 3: Our daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi
programmes removes obstacles to progress for the whole society
• When we enliven the unified field on the level of our own consciousness, we enliven it
everywhere. By purifying world consciousness through the group practice of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, including Yogic Flying, we can
eliminate all the obstacles to progress in the whole world and create a civilisation where
happiness and progress prevail on earth.
In light of culture, tradition and family – The fundamental of culture – purification
In our culture, we have many examples of purification, including such traditions as fasts and
sacred baths – even the sanitation departments in our communities.
Example: Children are always taught that if
they keep their rooms and things orderly, their
thinking will be more orderly and they will make
better progress in life; that purity is the basis for
good study and work, as well as for good mood
and happiness. Corporate companies have
“clean desk” policies.

In the previous principles we have learned that the pure field of
creative intelligence, the unified field of all the laws of nature, is
infinite and underlies (supports) everything in the universe. It is
the field of all possibilities. Because all of creation is an
expression of the infinite field of pure creative intelligence, life
itself is a field of all possibilities and all solutions. There are many
“fields” in the field of life – a farmer’s field, a garden bed, the
alphabet from which every word, story and poem in the world is
created, a box of paint or a ball of clay ready to be used in many
different ways, the many different fields of knowledge and skills
which people follow, in all these fields of life we will always be
happier, more successful and find the easiest solution when we
first take care of the most basic field – the field of all possibilities
– inside ourselves. Creative Intelligence naturally removes
obstacles from the path as it progresses (principle nine). When
we do TM, we open our awareness to the field of pure creative
intelligence that is in each one of us. We naturally begin to experience the qualities of creative
intelligence in our lives. We show more creativity, intelligence and orderliness in our thinking
and actions and so spontaneously we make fewer mistakes and experience fewer problems.
The unified field of all the laws of nature is the field of all possibilities of the universe. Contact
with this all-nourishing field is the “second element” needed to bring solutions to any problem or
question that may arise in any situation. The unified field of natural law is a field of all possibilities.
As we purify all the obstacles on our path through our meditation, the field of all possibilities
wakes up in our awareness. As a result, we naturally begin to act in accord with this field of life
– the source of all solutions – which organises the universe without a problem. We can also see
this principle on the more surface levels of life. From the alphabet, all words can be created.
From the scale of notes, any piece of music can be composed. A piece of clay is a field of all
possibilities to a sculptor.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Ten: The field of all possibilities is the source of all solutions
Main point 1: Wherever we look in life possibilities abound
• All around us: blank pages; rainbow of colours/art; garden bed/seeds; unformed clay;
numbers/algebra computations, right choices on the sports field; DNA
• In nature: if something is needed in the natural world, a solution can be found within the
natural world itself to fulfil that need: baby calf-milk-mother; plant-sun-rain; squirrel-tree-nuts.
In fact, great innovative thinkers turn to nature to find answers and solutions – Leonardo Da
Vinci, the Wright Brothers, Alexander Graham Bell
Main point 2: Every aspect of life spring from the underlying field of all possibilities.
• By looking deeper into the more fundamental levels of any system or situation, we can find
more and more possibilities and solutions for that system or situation. When we go to a
deeper level to solve a problem, we are introducing a “second element”, something new that
brings the solution. For example, if we are trying to find something in our room at night and
the lights are out, we have two choices – move slowly, creep around, bump into things – or
turn on the light. All problems of darkness simply disappear the moment light comes on.
Main point 3: We are all connected to the “light switch” for the universe – the unified field
of all the laws of nature. Every time we meditate, we introduce this “second element” into
our lives, we put this “field of all possibilities” to work on our behalf
• Creativity – inside ourselves, our parents, our fellow classmates, our teachers, our friends
and neighbours – is an expression of the field of all possibilities that gives rise to all the
solutions we see around us.
• When we practice the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes we awaken the
silent, unseen, underlying field that generates all the matter and energy fields that compose
the entire universe. Because natural law administers the functioning of the whole of life from
this level, the unified field is not only the field of all possibilities of the universe; it is also the
source of all solutions. When we awaken this unbounded ocean of creativity and intelligence
in our awareness, we begin to realise that nothing can get in the way of the fulfilment of our
desires; no obstacles can block our progress. The expression “the sky’s the limit” becomes
a living reality

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Ten: The field of all possibilities is the source of all solutions
Main point 4: In the state of enlightenment, we spontaneously choose the right
possibilities at all times
• When we meditate, our physiology purifies out the stresses and strains that block our
appreciation of this field of infinite possibilities and solutions. And when we operate from this
exhilaratingly blissful level, not only are all possibilities available to us at every moment, we
automatically know which possibility to choose – whether it’s the perfect word for our poem,
the correct number for our calculation, the ideal colour for our painting or the best move on
the soccer field – to enable us to bring unrestricted progress and nourishment to ourselves,
our families, our friends, our community and our environment
• The second element applies to society as well. When large groups of people practice the
TM-Sidhi programme together, including Yogic Flying, they enliven the unified field in the
whole collective consciousness of the nation, which results in enlightened government, a
more ideal society and growth of indomitable positivity, harmony and peace, on every level
of life.
In light of culture, tradition and family – tradition as the signpost for living in tune with
natural law
The traditions and teachings of our culture serve as signposts to guide us to know which
possibility is the right one to choose at every moment of our lives.
Example: Nature knows best! In very hot and wet places, it is common for the natives to be born
with dark skin to protect them from the sun and in very cool places, people are born with narrow
eyes to protect them from the cold.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Eleven: Thought leads to action, action leads to achievement,
achievement leads to fulfilment.
Wholeness of the lesson: The source, course and goal of action
Creative Intelligence expresses itself through the steps of thought, action, achievement and
fulfilment. We see these steps clearly displayed in the lives of successful, creative people. We
also follow these steps in many of the things we do each day – planning an activity and finding
enjoyment and satisfaction in what we’ve achieved. If our thinking is fuzzy, our planning and
action won’t be very effective, so we might not accomplish very much and instead of feeling
good we’ll be disappointed and feel frustrated. Good, clear thinking is the basis of successful
planning and action that achieves what we want and so adds to our happiness and our feeling
of fulfilment. TM makes our natural creativity and intelligence livelier by allowing us to experience
pure consciousness, the field of all possibilities, at the source of thought. Regular TM twice a
day prepares us for efficient, successful and fulfilling activity.
The source of action is the source of thought, the
field of all possibilities that is our Self, an
unbounded ocean of bliss. When our thoughts
are able to draw on the infinite reservoir of
creativity and intelligence at the source of
thought, without obstruction, our actions gain the
support of the total potential of natural law and
spontaneously bring achievement and fulfilment
in every area of our lives. Let’s say you have a
thought: “I am hungry”. So, you act: you walk to
the refrigerator. You achieve: “ah, there is the
apple” and you enjoy fulfilment: “Delicious”. This
cycle repeats itself in our lives all day long. When
we meditate, our minds become quieter and
quieter, until we transcend the thinking process
completely to enjoy the source of thought – the
field of all possibilities where all solutions can be
found. When we think from that level, the level
that organises the whole universe, all the laws of
nature rise up to help us achieve what we set out
to do. Using our original example, the thought, “I
am hungry”, maybe when we have the support
of all the laws of nature, our mother will
spontaneously decide to bring us a perfect slice
of apple without us having to do anything at all.
This is life in fulfilment.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Eleven: Thought leads to action, action leads to achievement,
achievement leads to fulfilment.
Main Point 1: Thought leads to action, action leads to achievement, achievement leads to
fulfilment describes the source, flow and purpose of activity
• The natural tendency to grow or progress in
human life always begins with a thought, a desire
in the mind for some fulfilment. The thought
moves us to action and when we achieve our
goal, some fulfilment is gained. Our thoughts
move us to action, to achieve more: at school
preparing papers or projects that require
research and creativity; or writing an original
story, poem or song which requires us to think precisely; or succeeding at sports, which
requires us to know the rules and strategies of the game; or planning an event, celebration
or even our schedule, which requires us to set goals and move forward in steps of
achievement towards fulfilling our goals.
• In science: thoughts of scientists leading to new frontiers, discoveries, technologies
Main point 2: Well begun is half done
• All great actions and achievements begin with someone’s thoughts. Think first, then act
• From the yoga asana course – Sankalp: This sequence of transformation of consciousness
into thought, thought into action and action into the fruit of action should be understood in
order to really understand the significance of Sankalp which is the process of resolving to do
something. The process of resolving (deciding) is a mental process which determines the
desired fruit from each action. This is a very natural process because always the thought to
do something has the distinct purpose to achieve something. So Sankalp is always lively in
the first thought of any action; but even so, starting an action to achieve something very
significant necessitates the creation of a strong momentum at the beginning of the
performance.
65
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Eleven: Thought leads to action, action leads to achievement,
achievement leads to fulfilment.
Main point 3: The strength and quality of our thinking determines the strength and quality
of our actions – and whether we will achieve our goals and find fulfilment. If we can “think
big” we can achieve great things
• The field of all possibilities is always
available to us. We contact it, enliven it
and establish it in our awareness every
time we practice the Transcendental
Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes.
At the same time, we are purifying all
the stresses and strains in our minds
and bodies, which, in turn, strengthens,
rejuvenates and refreshes our thinking.
As the stresses are dissolved, through
the deep rest of our practice of the
Transcendental Meditation technique,
all the obstacles to the flow of infinite
creativity and intelligence inside us are removed. When all the stresses are gone, the
pathless path from the source of thought to the surface levels of our mind is clear and our
thoughts retain the full value of the total potential of natural law at their source and they are
automatically and always “BIG”
• When our mind is saturated in the totality of natural law and our thoughts flow unobstructed
from their source, not only do our thoughts retain their unbounded nature, so do we. The
thoughts don’t “grip” us in the way that thoughts on the surface of our minds do. Instead, we
stay identified with the source of thought, free to enjoy our own unbounded nature. “BIG”
thoughts keep us, the thinkers, “BIG”, too.
Main point 4: Lasting fulfilment becomes our permanent experience through the
alternation of the steps of the deep rest of the Transcendental Meditation technique and
daily activity, when we are enjoying life in enlightenment
• Fulfilment can come to us in two ways: from outside and from inside. Outer fulfilment is
temporary. Inner fulfilment permeates our thinking, our actions and our achievements when
our awareness is permanently established in the source of thought. This kind of fulfilment is
always with us. This kind of fulfilment, inner fulfilment, comes when our awareness is always
unbounded and our thoughts are always “BIG”.
In light of culture, tradition and family – the role of silence
Many of our family traditions are designed to culture silence in our awareness as well as to guide
us toward the highest knowledge – the basis of fulfilment – in our life.
Example: Around the world, the boy and girl scouts have a tradition of planning and working
towards goals – with awards for those whose plans meet with achievement.
English proverb: “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Twelve: Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
Wholeness of the lesson: attention and memory
This principle can be understood at different levels. At the simplest level we learn that we can
find out about any object from the outside and from the inside. For example, when we handle an
orange, we see that is it round, firm to touch and the colour orange. Then we open it up and find
that inside it is juicy, soft and sweet. At the next level, we know that we learn about the world
outside us through our senses – we see, hear, touch, smell and taste. But there is also
knowledge that comes from inside – our thoughts and our ideas are expressions of our own
creative intelligence. From this knowledge we can create new stories, pictures, music, songs
and poetry.
We can also take knowledge that we have learned from outside and teach it to someone else or
use it to create something new. “Outside” knowledge becomes part of us – becomes “inside”
knowledge, for example we might be taught how to read and play music and then go on to
compose our own music. We experience the most subtle level of this principle when we learn
Transcendental Meditation. Then we have the direct experience of pure consciousness, the
infinite source of creative intelligence, the unified field. With regular twice daily TM the pure
knowledge, the complete knowledge of all the laws of nature that give rise to and sustain all
creation of the unified field, flows more and more into our lives. At the same time, we are gaining
more “outside” knowledge and understanding of our world. The longer we meditate the more we
act in tune with the laws of nature – right action: we behave in a way that is best for ourselves
and for others because we are growing in “inner” knowledge. When we reach the 5 th state of
consciousness – cosmic consciousness – our minds are fully awake to this complete knowledge
inside us, and we have the full support of all the laws of nature of the unified field. From this
level the principles or laws of anything can be understood and known. This is the full value of
“knowledge” is gained from inside and outside.
By integrating new information, impressions or experiences with “remembered” information,
impressions or experiences, one creates the framework of knowledge by which one lives. This
is how outer knowledge and experience becomes inner knowledge that inspires one’s thoughts
and actions, achievements and ultimately, fulfilment

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Twelve: Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
Wholeness of the lesson: (continued)
Knowledge is the basis of the thought, action, achievement and fulfilment cycle. Knowledge is
the coming together of the knower, process of knowing and known, in the student’s own
consciousness. Knowledge is gained when our attention flows from inside ourselves, out into
our environment and then back inside again, allowing our new experiences to connect and
integrate with the memory of what we already know. Let us examine how we know something.
Information always comes from outside of us through our senses. We hear something. We see
something. We taste something. How does one know something? One knows something when
the attention flows from inside oneself out into the environment through the senses and then
returns again to integrate new experiences with past experiences. For example, when a teacher
gives out information to his students, the students learn from their teacher by giving the teacher
their attention. The students then redirect their attention back inside again to connect with their
internal storehouse of memories, which turns the new information, impressions and experience
into knowledge they can use in their life.
There is always a relationship between what we take in from the outside and what we already
know inside ourselves. The integration or connection of what we take in through our senses and
what we remember inside is what creates knowledge. Through our daily meditation, we wake
up the ocean of consciousness inside our own awareness and enliven our ability to gain
knowledge from inside and outside. On this basis, our thoughts become powerful and clear,
producing skilful, purposeful actions which in turn bring achievement and fulfilment.
Knowledge is gained when our attention flows, from inside ourselves, into our environment and
then back inside again, allowing our new experiences to connect and integrate with the memory
of what we already know. The more awake we are on the inside, the more we can absorb, enjoy
and integrate everything we put our attention on. Through our daily practice of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, we wake up the unbounded ocean of
consciousness inside our own awareness and enliven the full value of our attention and memory
to that Total Knowledge, the basis of complete fulfilment in life.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Twelve: Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
Main point 1: Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
• Knowledge begins with the flow of our attention through our senses out into the environment
• When we learn something new “from the outside”, we connect it, through our memory, with
knowledge that is already within us. Our minds turn the impressions, experiences and
observations we gain through our senses into knowledge. By integrating our new impressions,
or experiences, with our “remembered” impressions (or experiences), we create the
framework of knowledge that we live by. This is how outer knowledge and experiences
becomes inner knowledge that inspires our thoughts and actions, achievements and fulfilment
• At home: we learn skills and how to live in society
• At school: learning skills from our teachers in every discipline. Every new class we take in
school builds on the information given out in the previous class. Every new lesson builds on
the previous lesson. Inside we are remembering what we’ve already learned and then
integrating the new information with this reservoir of knowledge we carry with us.
• In science: scientists always gain knowledge from outside and inside: (1) direct observation
through the senses of perception and (2) the use of reasoning and intuition to draw
conclusions about those observations. The regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation
and TM-Sidhi programmes connects everything we learn to the knowledge of our Self.
• In nature: DNA tells plants and animals how to make maximum use of the knowledge
available in its outside environment. The inside knowledge in animals is called instinct and
outside knowledge is called “learned behaviour”
Main point 2: The quality of the knowledge you gain depends on the quality of
wakefulness of “the knower” – you
• Whether we are reading books, listening to teachers, admiring and interacting with the world
around us, or integrating the knowledge gained from these outer experiences, one feature is
common to all of these experiences – us. When we gain knowledge from inside or outside –
we are doing the knowing and the integrating. The more awake we are on the inside, the
more awake we are to all the different elements in our outside environment and the more we
can absorb, make use of and enjoy all those different elements in the outside world.
• Every advancement in science emerged from the wakefulness of scientists e.g. Sir Isaac
Newton and Benjamin Franklin.
Main point 3: The direct experience of pure consciousness, the unbounded source of
creativity and intelligence, is the key to waking up.
• We know something because we are awake inside – someone is doing the seeing, the
listening, the processing of impressions and information, the analysing and synthesising.
That someone is the knower – the Self, the unchanging field of pure consciousness. It is the
continuity of our consciousness that gives rise to the flow of our attention, the memories, the
processing – our knowledge.
• Our bodies change as we grow; our minds gain more information and experiences as we
grow; our hearts expand as we grow. All these different parts of us change – but something
maintains the continuity of who we are. That something is the essence of who we are – the
field of our own pure consciousness – our Self. The infinite, unbounded reality of our Self
infuses life into our individual minds, hearts and physiology and enables us to know.
69
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Twelve: Knowledge is gained from inside and outside
Main point 4: The memory of our Self gives us the ability to know, connecting everything
we know into one unified wholeness of knowledge
• Just as the wave contains the memory of its true nature as the ocean, we too, contain the
memory of our own true nature – the pure unbounded ocean of bliss consciousness – Total
Knowledge. When we transcend, during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation and
TM-Sidhi programmes, we transcend our specific experiences and observations. We
transcend the pieces and parts of our memory and put our attention on the wholeness of
everything; we awaken our memory of the inter-connectedness of everything – we enjoy the
home of all knowledge, the Self.
• In the state of enlightenment our awareness is stationed at the central switchboard of
nature’s intelligence – fully awake in the field of Total Knowledge. As a result, complete
knowledge of the total potential of natural law is always at our disposal. From this level
anything can be known – inside and out. This is the full value of knowledge is gained from
inside and outside
Main point 5: Seek the highest first.
• Knowledge is the basis of the cycle of thought, action, achievement and fulfilment. To gain
the maximum knowledge inside and outside, we must seek the highest first. The highest is
Total Knowledge, the deepest “inside knowledge”, which dawns in our awareness from our
memory of our Self, the source of all inner and outer knowledge.
• When our awareness is permanently established in the field of Total knowledge – we can
know anything, do anything and accomplish anything. This is the tremendous value of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes – we come to know that by which
everything is known. Knowing that, we gain the fruit of both inner and outer knowledge – a
mistake-free, problem-free life in ever increasing waves of achievement and fulfilment.
In light of culture, tradition and family – the fundamental of culture – integration
Integration is the fundamental of culture that allows
a family, community or nation to take in nourishing,
life-supporting ideas and influences from the
environment. The more awake we are on the inside,
the more we can absorb and integrate from the
outside.
Example: Many traditional games children play
around the world demand and stimulate both their
inner and outer creativity – word games, songs and
outdoor games.
Weddings and funerals – After attending the first
one, we have a memory of the experience and know
what to expect at the next one.

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Wholeness of the lesson: The world is as we are
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “Green glasses see green – what we are is what we see. The world
is as we are”. “Behaviour arises from the level of one’s consciousness.” “When we buy a rose
the thorn is included. But if our perception is trained spontaneously to go deep into some tender
values, we would always be enjoying the tenderness of the rose and would not mind the prickly
thorn even if it accompanies the rose. It is a matter of what one is capable of apprehending and
appreciating”
This principle follows on naturally from principle twelve – knowledge is gained from inside and
outside. “Knowledge is structured in consciousness” tells us that how we see and experience
the world depends on how we are, on our consciousness. We know that if we are feeling good,
rested and alert it seems that everything goes right for us. On the other hand, if we are feeling
dull and out of sorts it often seems that nothing works out as planned. As the full value of creative
intelligence grows in our awareness with the regular practice of TM, we spontaneously see and
experience the qualities of the pure field of creative intelligence, the unified field, all around us
– harmony, joy, beauty, goodness, creativity and intelligence at work. We enjoy more support of
the laws of nature because we are spontaneously living more in accord with the laws of nature.
We have more contact with and use more of the pure knowledge that is within each of us.
When we are wearing green glasses, everything we see is green, when we are wearing red
glasses, everything we see is red. What we are inside determines how we experience, or know,
the world. For knowledge to become knowledge there has to be a knower – someone to take in
the knowledge from the outside and process it on the inside. That’s you. You are the knower.
Everything you know depends on the state of your consciousness. Most of us are familiar with
three states of consciousness – sleep state, where we don’t really know much of anything; dream
state, where our knowledge can be rather fantastical, for e.g. dragons leaping over castles; and
the waking state, where our perception of reality changes depending on how awake we really
are. So, when our awareness changes, our knowledge changes. There is a saying: the world is
as we are. When we wear green glasses, we see green. When we wear red ones, the world is
all red. Through Transcendental Meditation, our consciousness becomes bright and clear, and
we experience the full value of knowledge, inside and outside. This is life in enlightenment.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Main point 1: The world is as we are
• Our experience and knowledge of life changes as we change. The buildings we thought were
so large when we were young, the people who seemed so tall when we were little – they
haven’t gotten smaller, we’ve simply grown up
• Our perception of time also depends on our internal experience. The minutes of the clock
don’t go by faster when we are listening to music. We are just so engaged, that we don’t
notice the passage of time.
• At home: each family member has a unique perspective on life, based on his or her
experience. The world is different for each of the members of our family.
At school: we learn about different perspectives throughout our academic life, because the
great thinkers and creators that we study in every discipline each has his/her own unique
understanding, approach and vision of life. The same is true for us. When we study
something, we each bring our own knowledge of life, our own experience of life, with us –
books, music and art. School is a place for gaining knowledge. How much we gain depends
on how receptive (fundamentals of education) we are, how interested we are, how awake we
are to the wealth of information flowing from our teachers.
Main point 2: Knowledge is different in different states of consciousness
• Our world changes daily as we move through three different states of consciousness: waking,
sleeping and dreaming. And what we know changes each time we move from waking to
sleeping to dreaming.
Main point 3: Transcendental Consciousness is a fourth state of consciousness
• When we practice the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, we experience
a fourth state of consciousness – Transcendental Consciousness – the experience of restful
alertness. Our awareness is completely silent and absolutely alert at the same time. The
“world” we experience, the world we know, in Transcendental Consciousness is completely
different from the world of waking, dreaming and sleeping – so it is called the fourth state of
consciousness
• Knowledge is different in different states of consciousness
“Fulfilment is structured in achievement,
Achievement is structured in action,
Action is structured in thinking,
Thinking is structured in knowledge,
Knowledge is structured in consciousness”
72
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Main point 4: Our body functions differently in each state of consciousness: waking,
dreaming, sleeping and Transcendental Consciousness
• Brain wave activity: the sleep state of
consciousness is characterised by one particular
type of brain wave activity – very slow brain waves
called delta waves. In the dreaming state of
consciousness, the brain waves, called theta
waves, are a little more rapid. And just like with our
breathing rate, in the waking state of consciousness
brain waves change according to our activity. For
example, when we are more relaxed, more innerdirected, our brain shows alpha waves. When our
attention is more active and outer-oriented, our
brain shows beta waves. And when our attention is active and involved in the integration of
sensory information (e.g. seeing something and knowing what the object is), our brain shows
gamma waves (an even higher frequency)
• During the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, our brain wave activity is
different yet again: it is more coherent and integrated than during waking, dreaming or
sleeping. And when we experience Transcendental Consciousness, the electrical activity in
the brain reveals that all the different parts of the brain begin to communicate with each other.
Scientists call this Total Brain Functioning. Scientist who have looked at the electrical activity
of people’s brains while they were practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique, have
found that the very centre of the brain, the thalamus, becomes quieter and the areas in the
front of the brain – the attention or decision-making centres of the brain – become more
awake
Main point 5: When Transcendental Consciousness is permanently infused into our
waking, dreaming and sleeping, we begin to live life in a new way – we enjoy the fifth
state of consciousness – Cosmic Consciousness – the state of enlightenment
• When our physiology is completely stress-free, we are able to maintain and reflect the full
value of the Self, Transcendental Consciousness, no matter what we are doing. We become
enlightened – we are in Cosmic Consciousness; we know who we are: unbounded bliss
consciousness
• When the physiology is completely stress-free, the fourth state of consciousness becomes
permanently established in our awareness, even when we are in the midst of dynamic
activity, the deepest hours of sleep or the most remarkable of dreams – this is the fifth state
of consciousness – Cosmic Consciousness
1. We know and experience our own true nature as unbounded bliss consciousness twentyfour hours a day – whether we are awake, in deep sleep or in the world of dreaming
2. We experience two distinct values of life: the non-changing field of our own unbounded
awareness and the ever-changing field of activity
3. We don’t make mistakes anymore. Established in Being, we spontaneously perform right
action for ourselves and everyone else all the time.
• We know who we are
73
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Main point 6: Once we have reached Cosmic Consciousness, the gap between our Self
and the “non-Self”, (the rest of the universe) naturally begins to be bridged. As we grow
to the sixth state of consciousness, the apparent separateness or duality, between our
Self and the world around us diminishes.
• In the sixth state of consciousness, we continue to grow on the level of our heart and our
senses – in our ability to perceive and appreciate the world around us
• Our heart, enjoying its own unbounded nature as bliss, begins to expand out into the rest of
the universe. Our stress-free physiology, no longer dealing with the process of purification of
stress, begins to refine itself. And our senses, our “windows of perception” no longer dulled
or clouded begin to perceive more clearly. Our senses begin to see finer and finer levels of
the physical universe. With every sense, we begin to perceive the subtle beauty of all things,
their underlying transcendental value. The sixth state of consciousness is characterised by
the unbounded self-referral awareness of Cosmic Consciousness, along with an expanding
heart and refined senses – both eager and increasingly able to perceive the laws of nature
at their finest level, i.e. as they are emerging from their home in the unified field – the
Constitution of the Universe. Over time, our love and appreciation for everything around us
has become so full, that we grow even more.
Main point 7: The seventh state of consciousness is called Unity Consciousness or UC.
Unity Consciousness as its name tells us, is that state of life where the duality between
the Self and the non-Self disappears and everything in the universe is perceived and
enjoyed as an expression of our Self
• To use the familiar analogy, before we reach Unity Consciousness, we see each wave in the
ocean as distinct in itself. But in UC we see that each individual wave is in itself nothing but
the silent, unbounded ocean rising up, never losing its identity as the ocean. With the ability
to appreciate everything in its fullest value, we enjoy Total Knowledge of everything there is
to know. From this exalted level of consciousness, our fulfilment is complete.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Main point 8: The nature of life to grow propels us forward until we reach the state of
complete fulfilment, the highest state of consciousness – Unity Consciousness – in
which all of life is known to be an expression of our Self. This is the state of Total
Knowledge – where everything is known and enjoyed in its completeness – from within
our own self-referral consciousness.
• We start in waking state, gaining knowledge about the world around
us, from our teachers, our parents, all the intelligent people we meet
and all the experiences we have in our lives. The Self is there, doing
the knowing, the learning, having the experiences, but we don’t
know much about our Self; we have no awareness of the field of life
that upholds everything.
• Then we learn to meditate and all of a sudden, a whole new world
opens up to us – the world of our Self, the field of pure
consciousness, which organises and supports every particle in the
universe. Through our regular practice of the Transcendental
Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes we purify our nervous system
and begin to stabilise the field of the Self in our awareness. And
when our physiology is completely stress-free, we are able to
maintain and reflect the full value of the Self, Transcendental
Consciousness, no matter what we are doing. We become
enlightened – we are in Cosmic Consciousness; we know who we
are: unbounded bliss consciousness.
• And yet there’s still more knowledge for us to gain. So, the nature
of life to grow continues to push us forward to the next stage of
enlightenment – where our senses become so refined that we can perceive the finest fabrics
of the world around us. But even in Refined Cosmic Consciousness (God Consciousness)
the world, our activity, everything around us is separate from our own unbounded nature. So,
we have one more step of growth. We have to come to know that everything in the universe
is made of the same consciousness that we are made of. In Unity Consciousness, we come
to know that my Self and your Self and the Self of everyone and everything in the universe
is the same Self. This is when knowledge becomes Total Knowledge.
• Total Knowledge is not information about something, it is the state of a fully awake
consciousness that knows that all the points in the universe are expressions of the same
infinite field of consciousness, my Self. Total Knowledge is complete knowledge, knowledge
of everything there is to know – inside and outside. Total Knowledge is structured in our fully
awake consciousness – when we know that everything is the Self and there is nothing but
the Self.
• And, of course, we know that we gain the ability to stabilise the field of Total Knowledge in
our daily activity simply through our regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation and
TM-Sidhi programmes. Through these powerful technologies of consciousness, we wake up
inside, we purify our physiology, we develop our total brain and then we enjoy the fruit of all
knowledge – a mistake-free, problem-free life in fulfilment.

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Thirteen: Knowledge is structured in consciousness
Main point 9: Knowledge is structured in consciousness is a natural extension of the
principle Outer depends on Inner (Refer to pairing)
• Just as the outer quality of anything depends on what’s inside it – the strength of the tree
depends on the nutrients supplied by the sap, the balance of our body depends on the
integrated, healthy functioning of our organs – our ability to know depends on the state of
what’s inside us, on the quality of our consciousness.
• The more awake we are inside, the more we are able to know. And, of course, this waking
up occurs when we experience the field of pure wakefulness – our own consciousness –
during our practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes. From this
unbounded, non-changing field of total natural law, from this level of the togetherness of
knower, known and process of knowing, everything is known.
In light of culture, tradition and family – the world is as we are
All cultures have their source in the unified field. At the core of every culture are traditions that
guide the attention inward to this deepest level of life.
Example: Many cultures have oral traditions, such that stories and legends are passed down
from generation to generation through the telling of these stories, sometimes even in song.
In many cultures around the world, family traditions hold that the children should marry only in
the same religious groups in order to maintain stability and allow the family to grow in knowledge
together.
Nigerian proverb: “He who is being carried does not realise how far the town is”
Rumi, the Sufi poet: “Everyone sees the unseen in proportion to the clarity of his heart and that
depends upon how much he has polished it. Whoever has polished it more sees more – more
unseen forms become manifest to him”

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fourteen: Harmony exists in diversity
Wholeness of the lesson: The co-existence of opposites
We experience this principle every day in many different ways. A cook blends different
ingredients to make a tasty dish. A family consists of individuals different in many ways –
appearance, interests, likes and dislikes – but a healthy family is able to respect differences and
work together to support each other and enjoy being together. In our bodies many different
systems – digestive system, nervous system and immune system as well as all the cells, tissues
and organs – work together to create health. In nature, a great variety of plant and animal
organisms co-exist in a single balanced ecosystem. When we meditate, we experience this
harmony of differences in our consciousness. With regular TM, the unbounded silence of the
unified field is growing in our awareness. At the same time, we are growing in energy, in
creativity, in clarity of perception and becoming involved in a wide range of interest and activities.
The unboundedness of unity and the diversity of activity grow together in our awareness. When
we have the unbounded silence of the unified field permanently in our consciousness along with
activity (and this is our goal), we can accomplish anything, and we spontaneously live life
according to natural law.
The unified field, the field of pure consciousness,
harmonises everything in creation to create a
perfectly functioning universe. Our ability to
perceive and enjoy the harmony amidst diversity in
the universe depends on the quality of our
consciousness. The Transcendental Meditation
technique takes our attention inside to the level of
life’s unity, the field of pure consciousness,
enlivening both the harmonising influence of the
unified field in the diversity of our lives – in our
family, in our communities, nation and world – and
our ability to appreciate the harmony that exist
amidst the diversity everywhere, allowing us to see
the whole world as our family.
A healthy ecosystem has lots of species diversity and is less likely to be negatively impacted by
external change. Every species has its job to keep the system healthy. Unity of diversity, the
togetherness of differences, is the nature of life. Through our regular practice of the
Transcendental Meditation technique, we awaken our ability to see the harmony that exists in
diversity everywhere. The togetherness of differences is the nature of life. Harmony amidst
diversity is the nature of life because life is both diverse on the surface and unified at its basis.
The conductor unifies the diverse instruments of an orchestra to create glorious music. The artist
organises colours and shapes to create a beautiful painting. The scientist integrates facts to
develop a theory and uncover a law.
(In the 33 lessons of Creative Intelligence, Maharishi speaks of the universe as “uni” and
“diverse”. Unity plus diversity = Universe.)

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fourteen: Harmony exists in diversity
Main point 1: Life is filled with harmony and diversity
• Wherever we look, we see diversity – people, places,
things. Friends, buildings, cars, books, music, art,
fashion and food. The world is filled with differences –
different shapes and sizes, styles and colours, sights,
sounds, flavours, textures, fragrances – the diversity
of life fills our senses.
• When we look more closely, we can see the harmony
amidst the diversity – billions of people live together in
families, communities and nations. Billions of words
come together as books. Musical notes come together
as chords. Chefs create fabulous meals out of a vast
array of spices and foods.
• We might play many roles in life – daughter, sister,
student, son, brother, friend – and we may have many
different interests and activities, but a sense of self or identity connects and harmonises all
the parts of our personality into a single whole.
Main point 2: The Transcendental Meditation programme produces a unique state of
consciousness – restful alertness – that reflects the co-existence of opposites
• During our practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique our mind settles down to
experience the source of thought – Transcendental Consciousness. The experience of
Transcendental Consciousness is an experience of profound restfulness and pure
wakefulness at the same time, which produces Total Brain Functioning, the harmonious and
integrated communication between all the different parts of the brain.
Main point 3: Cosmic Consciousness is the experience of two distinct realities – the Self
(harmony) and the non-Self (diversity) – co-existing simultaneously in our life
Main point 4: Unity Consciousness is a perfect reflection of harmony and diversity
existing together, even on the surface layers of life.
• In Unity Consciousness, we experience
everything as an expression of our
unbounded Self. We experience harmony
(our Self) even on the surface of the diversity
of life (our Self). This is the ultimate meaning
of harmony exists in diversity – the
harmonious, completely unified field of the
Self, known and experienced as permeating
every diverse element in the universe.
(In Unity Consciousness, everything is big S)

“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fourteen: Harmony exists in diversity
Main point 5: The nature of life is both diverse and unified
• Differences are always there when we look at the surface of any situation. And harmony, that
which unifies the situation, is always there at the basis of the situation. Harmony and diversity
are like the two banks of a river through which all the water flows.
• Even at the level of the unified field we find the co-existence of diverse value: in the selfinteracting dynamics of consciousness, we find the co-existence of three values – knower,
knowing and known – in one wholeness. The interaction between the three is responsible for
all the diversity we see in the universe. The togetherness value of the three – the unified
value of knower, knowing and known, is the basis of all the harmony we see in the universe.
• We can also view the field of pure consciousness, in terms of two opposite qualities existing
together – infinite silence and infinite dynamism. For contained within the silent nature of
pure consciousness, or pure intelligence, is the quality of infinite dynamism, the infinite
organising power, which organises the whole universe – and vice versa.
Main point 6: The Transcendental Meditation
technique effortlessly takes our attention inside to
the level of life’s unity (the unified field) and enlivens
our ability to see the harmony amidst the diversity in
the universe; and awakens a harmonising influence
in the diversity of our lives – with our friends, in our
family, our world – everywhere
• Harmony and diversity are always there. Our ability to
perceive and enjoy the harmony amidst diversity in the
universe depends on the quality of our consciousness.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
• Through our regular practice of the Transcendental
Meditation and TM-Sidhi programmes, we begin to
identify more and more with that deepest level of life,
the level of perfect harmony, perceiving the similarities
between us all at every level of life – in our families,
our communities, our nations and the world – even as
we continue to delight in the differences. When we are
in Unity Consciousness, the infinite diversity of life will
be enjoyed as an expression of our completely unified,
harmonious Self.
In light of culture, tradition and family – the world is my family
Our culture integrates and harmonises all the diversity in our families, communities and nation.
Example: The National Days of a nation create a feeling of harmony amidst diversity.
African proverb: “I am because we are.” People have different strengths and intelligences. In
life, we need people who collectively are good at different things. (From the self-management
course – multiple intelligences and four temperaments)

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fifteen: Wholeness is contained in every part.
Wholeness of the lesson: Intelligence and Orderliness
The DNA molecule contains the whole structure of human life
in seed form.Every cell in the body contains a DNA molecule
therefore every cell contains the total potential of human life.
In our everyday life we often recognise the whole although
we may only experience a part. We know which friend is
outside when we hear his/her voice. We know what to expect
for supper from the smells wafting from the kitchen. When we
see a seashell, or a giraffe in a zoo, we have a good idea of
its natural environment. Everything we see around us is an
expression of the wholeness of Creative Intelligence. The
fullness of Creative Intelligence, the unified field, is in every
tiny part of creation just as the whole nature of water is
contained in every drop of water. With regular TM we
naturally develop wholeness of awareness. We develop
broader understanding and also the ability to pay attention to
detail without getting bogged down. While maintaining
awareness of the whole ocean (unified field) we enjoy every
wave (all of creation). We spontaneously begin to perceive
the fullness of life in every boundary.
Wholeness is contained in every particle of the universe, because the unified field, the field of
wholeness – the field of pure intelligence, the field of perfect orderliness – permeates everything,
everywhere. A piece of pizza does not contain the whole pizza, but every piece contains the
wholeness, or essence of the pizza: the base, the toppings, the aroma, the delicious flavour. A
drop of water, no matter what form it takes – waves on the ocean, icebergs, steam – contains
the same water molecule. This is the wholeness that organises and harmonises everything
everywhere. Harmony exists in the midst of the diversity of the entire universe because the
wholeness of the unified field is found in every point of creation. Through Transcendental
Meditation we experience the unified field inside our own consciousness and awaken wholeness
in every part of our lives.

Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fifteen: Wholeness is contained in every part.
Main point 1: Wholeness is found wherever we look on the surface level of our life – it is
the essence of every part.
• The wholeness, or essence, of an object is contained in its parts. For example, the scent of
a flower can tell us what kind of flower it is; by just hearing a friend’s voice, we know who is
there. This is true even for us. Although we have many different roles and responsibilities,
each of us has an identity that is our wholeness. This wholeness is expressed in some way
in each part of our life.
• In home: Families of ten share physical characteristics and personality traits.
In science: The law of definite composition: water is water, whether ice, lake, ocean or to
drink. Salt is salt, whether on a table or in the sea. Gold is gold, whether in a mine or on our
finger. The laws of nature are universal, operating everywhere all the time. Lightning may be
different from the lights in our homes, but it is the same electricity that is being harnessed.
Our experience of gravity on earth may be different from our experience of gravity on the
moon, but it is the same law. The ultimate goal of science is to find wholeness – the order
and intelligence of the totality of natural law – in the individual laws of nature as they express
themselves in the infinite diversity of the universe.
Main point 2: Wholeness is the orderliness in everything (pairing)
• The unified field, the field of pure consciousness, is a field of perfect orderliness, perfect
harmony. And because the unified field is found in every particle of the universe, Order is
present everywhere and harmony exists in diversity
• Harmony is the connecting link between the parts and the wholeness, or essence, of each
part. Chairs, tables and desks are all furniture. Drums, keyboards and guitars are all
instruments
Main point 3: Wholeness is the underlying nature of everything
• Wholeness is beyond the senses, beyond space and time. The transcendental field of life is
the field of our own pure consciousness, the unified field of all the laws of nature. This
unmanifest field, permeates and unifies every single particle in the universe – it is the
wholeness of everything everywhere – like the sap in the branches, leaves and fruits of the
tree.
Main point 4: Consciousness becomes matter through sequential development
• The knowledge of the whole tree is found in the seed. The knowledge of the whole tree is
found in the first stage of the sprouting of the seed and in the second stage of the sprouting
and in the third stage of sprouting. As the tree grows, the knowledge of the whole tree is
contained at every level. Like this, natural law unfolds from its total basis in the unified field
to its specific expressions in the universe. Everything in the universe – including our
physiology – unfolds from the unified field in this same way, always containing within it the
totality of natural law. This means, everything is actually consciousness.
81
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Fifteen: Wholeness is contained in every part.
Main point 5: Consciousness is the wholeness of everyone and everything
• My consciousness and your consciousness and the consciousness of every human being,
indeed of everything in the universe, is the same consciousness. It is the wholeness that
exists in everything everywhere.
Main point 6: We enliven the wholeness of our Self through the simple, natural, innocent
Transcendental Meditation technique.
• The natural tendency of the mind to transcend is contained in every one of us. The source
of thought is contained in every one of us. The field of pure consciousness is contained in
every one of us. When we purify all the stress from our physiology and rise to the state of
enlightenment, we enjoy wholeness in every part of our lives.
In light of culture, tradition and family – culture permeates through every part of our lives
Just as the wholeness of the pizza is there in every bite, the whole nature of water is there in
every drop and the nature of our culture is there in every tradition, the wholeness of the unified
field is there in every particle of creation.
82
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Sixteen: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
Wholeness of the lesson: Fulfilment of life
A home is much more than just a collection of bricks,
cement, tiles and plumbing. White light contains all
colours in unmanifest form and yet is something more
than the collection of all colours. A family is something
greater than each of its members; it is also shared
experience, shared love, it is a wholeness. Many different
organs, systems, bones and muscles function together to create and maintain the human body.
Each human is unique and much more than the sum of the parts.
With regular TM the different aspects of our life – ego, intellect, heart, mind, senses and body –
develop to their full potential, functioning harmoniously together to create wholeness. Ultimately,
we live unboundedness and infinite joy in every moment, spontaneously perceiving the whole of
life in every part of life. Maharishi describes this state of full enlightenment as 200% of life; life
lived in 100% inner fullness and 100% outer fullness.
At every level of the universe, we find that when parts come together, something new and greater
is created – from the ingredients in a cake, to the players on a team, to the molecules that make
up DNA. On the basis of memory, one’s internal storehouse of knowledge is unified into a
wholeness of knowing that is greater in its value than simply a collection of a vast number of
pieces of information gained through the senses.
When the inner and outer realities of life come together through the full development of our
consciousness, the greatest whole is created – when we realise that everything everywhere –
inside and outside – is our own Self. This is Total Knowledge – 200% of life, our birth right.
When all the players in an orchestra come together to create
music, the whole that is created is fuller, richer, more
satisfying and more complete than when each of the
individual instruments are played alone. The nature of life is
to grow toward that whole which is bigger, greater and more
than all the individual parts of life (Pairing). There is only one
place that is greater than all the parts, the field of our own
pure consciousness, the pure field of Creative Intelligence,
the Unified Field of Natural Law. This is the whole that is
contained in every part; this is the whole that contains every part; this is the whole that is greater
than the sum of the parts. Awakening this great, big wholeness of your Self in your awareness
through your meditation brings us to a state of compete fulfilment, the state of Enlightenment.
This is your destiny.
83
Version 2, January 2021
“The skill of teaching is in putting Total Knowledge into whatever we are teaching”
16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
Principle Sixteen: The whole is greater than the sum of the parts
Main point 1: “A house is more than a collection of bricks”
• At home: family heritage, experiences and love shared between its members
In science: Meissner Effect, Maharishi Effect
Main point 2: Life is made of two seemingly opposite values: consciousness and matter.
The coming together of these two values is Total Knowledge. When the experience of the
inner value of wholeness – pure consciousness – expands to embrace the entirety of the
outside universe, then the outside and inside unite as one grand wholeness. The full
awakening of Total Knowledge is the fulfilment of growth – the fulfilment of the nature of
life to grow.
• The story of Total Knowledge is the story of two
fullnesses of life. When the inner value of life is full and
the outer value of life is full, that is 200% of life. This is
the state of unity, in which fullness of life is enjoyed inside
and outside. And when these two fullnesses come
together, a greater whole is created. This greater whole
is Total Knowledge.
• This is the ultimate reality – when the Self realises its
own true nature, inclusive of everything in the universe.
This is the full awakening of Total Knowledge – the full development of Unity Consciousness
– the total unification of all that there is.
• This is the greatest whole. There is nothing greater
• This is the fulfilment of the Science of Creative Intelligence Curriculum
• This is Total Knowledge – your birth right, your destiny
In light of culture, tradition and family – heaven on earth is the fulfilment of every culture
There is a saying: “a house is more than a collection of bricks”. A community is more than just
a group of individuals. Something more gets created in the togetherness of parts. A whole culture
is created.
Example: In many countries and traditional cultures we can find extended families living together
African proverb: “A united family eats from the same plate” and “It takes a whole village to raise
a child”
Rk Ved, 10th Mandala, final verse: “United be our purpose, harmonious be our feeling, and
collected be our mind. In the same way as all the various aspects of the universe, exist in
togetherness – wholeness”
It is better together than what you expected because the way they combine adds a different
quality. For example – Pizza. Dough, cheese, tomato, sauce. Creates food to eat. But when we
share this pizza with our friends, it becomes more than just food that nourishes our body, it is
now a special moment shared with our friends.
Aristotle: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” – this is the modern concept of synergy
T – together
E – everybody
A – achieves
M – more

16 PRINCIPLES OF CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
CONCLUSION
Deep inside our own consciousness lies the home of all the laws of nature. These laws are
expressed at every level of creation throughout the universe. They are found here, there and
everywhere, inside and out. The 16 Principles of Creative Intelligence are those fundamental
laws of nature that uphold all progress and growth in life. They are the very laws responsible for
all of nature’s activity, from the growth of a seed, to the growth of a great tree; from the orderly
pattern in a snowflake, to the orderly pattern of the seasons; from the structure of an atom, to
the structure of our countryside, to the structure of our cultures, to the structures of a galaxy.
And they are especially helpful for the development of our consciousness. When we meditate,
we enliven the 16 Principles in our awareness. When we study them, they not only show us how
the universe evolves, they show us how we grow. The 16 Principles are like signposts on the
path to the unfoldment of our full potential.
Every expression of life is an expression of the laws of nature. When human awareness is in
tune with the totality of natural law, when the totality of natural law is lively, then all of life, all the
individual offshoots of the laws of nature will enjoy the support of the totality of natural law. And
when this is a living reality, there will be no end to progress.
