Proposed Course Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate
clinical
competence.
Manage competently clinical conditions of
individuals, families and vulnerable populations*
incorporating the levels of prevention** in the
various settings.*** regardless of economic status
At the end of the course in Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 manage appropriately most common medical conditions in
the primary care setting
 provide initial management for cases requiring prompt
referral
* indigenous, elderly, terminally-ill, persons with
disabilities (PWDs), lesbians-gays-bisexualstransgenders-queers-intersexed (LGBTQI), persons
with mental disorders, etc.
** levels of prevention: individual and family
health promotion, specific protection, early
detection and prompt treatment and/or referral,
disability limitation and rehabilitative services
*** primary care levelservices in the barangay
health center, rural health unit, city health office
and district hospitals, community-setting, home,
school and the workplace


analyze the health situation of a vulnerable population
with the genuine participation of the population group

2. Communicate
effectively.
Communicate effectively with professionalism,
respect, openness, empathy and sensitivity, in
written and oral formats, across all types of
audience (i.e., individual, family, health workers,
public, government and local chief executives,
policy-makers, funding agencies and other
stakeholders), venues and media (to include social
media), in a manner that can be easily
understood, cognizant of non-verbal cues
At the end of the course Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 create a professional environment for all patient-doctor
encounter
 motivate individuals to adopt healthy lifestyle
 conduct individual primary care counseling
 facilitate family meetings that would encompass lifestyle
and disease management to enable them to arrive at
sound medical decisions
 discuss relevant health issuesand concerns with the
appropriate stakeholders
 facilitate relevant discussions with communities that would
result to improved health and development
 communicate with other health professionals and sectors
3. Lead and manage
health care teams.
Initiate and facilitate the planning, organizing,
implementation and evaluation of health programs
and services
At the end of the course in Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 Demonstrate effective, participatory and evocative
leadership that facilitates people empowerment
Organize, inspire and motivate healthcare team for
a healthier community.




4. Engage in research
activities.
Undertake research endeavor addressing the
priority health needs to improve health of
individuals, families, communities, and the nation.
Utilize judiciously current best evidence in
decision-making as practitioner, manager, policy
maker,educator or researcher.
Mobilize the health care team and the community towards
sustainable development
Evaluate health projects or aspects of a health program
with the health team in the community, hospital and
health centers
Participate in the implementation of the national and local
health programs
Create a collaborative, productive and participatory
environment for a health care team
At the end of the course in Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 conduct participatory research that address priority heath
care needs of individuals, families and communities
 make rational decisions on specific health issues utilizing
evidence-based medicine
 Present or Publish completed research
5. Collaborate within
inter-professional
teams.
Work with teams (i.e., medical, non-medical,
spiritual, political, etc.) in addressing health needs
and social determinants of health effectively.
At the end of the course in Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 collaborate effectively with stakeholders to address health
needs and their social determinants
 Assist in the resolution of conflict among stakeholders if
there are any
6. Utilize systemsbased approach to
healthcare.
Utilize the biopsychosocial approach in the
management of health concerns of families and
communities
At the end of the course in Preventive, Family, and Community
Medicine, the student shall be able to:
 Address the health situation of individual, family and the
community using the biopsychosocial approach
Analyze health systems using the WHO building
blocks *** and intervene appropriately
***service delivery, health workforce, health
information system, access to essential medicines,
financing leadership/governance
