CAMBRIDGE LOWER SECONDARY ASSESSMENT KEY STAGE 3 YEAR 7-9 Learning objectives: 1. Experiencing 2. Making 3. Reflecting 4. Thinking and working artistically Working towards the expectations of the learning objective for the stage At the expected standard of the learning objective for the stage Above the expected standard of the learning objective for the stage Learners can apply some, but not all, of the knowledge, understanding and/or skills described in the learning objective in limited contexts only. Learners can apply the knowledge, understanding and/or skills described in the learning objective in some contexts, especially familiar and simple contexts. Learners can apply the knowledge, understanding and skills described in the learning objective in a wide range of contexts, including unfamiliar and complex contexts. Learners may demonstrate some of the knowledge, understanding and/or skills described in the learning objective, but for the expectations of a lower stage. Learners may start to demonstrate some of the knowledge, understanding and/or skills described in the expectations of the learning objective for a higher stage. These are the main areas and aspects for assessing Lower Secondary Art & Design: Observing Exploring and developing Reflecting, resolving and presenting Recording from observation Generating ideas Analysis and improvement Personal choices in observation Exploring and innovating Presentation of the artistic process Engaging with art and design Making Presentation of final piece. For each aspect, there are three descriptors and guidance that explains in more detail what to look for. A learner who demonstrated the: • The highest descriptor would be very well prepared to begin studying IGCSE or O Level Art & Design • middle descriptor would be prepared to begin studying IGCSE or O Level Art & Design • The lowest descriptor would benefit from further support if they decided to study IGCSE or O Level Art & Design. OBSER VING LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES DESCRIPTORS: LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE ASPECTS / SKILLS Recording from observation. WORKING TOWARD EXPECTED STANDARDS I can recognise and record simple shapes, colours and surface appearance from observation. AT EXPECTED STANDARDS ABOVE EXPECTED STANDARDS I can record observations using a wider range of formal elements. I can record observations by combining the formal elements with some accuracy. I can use the provided source material. I can explore options for media and selecting and presenting objects. I can make informed and independent choices about media and the selection and presentation of objects. Engaging with art and design. I can identify some of the formal elements used in a particular work of art or design. I can identify common formal elements used within an art or design movement or several pieces from a single artist or designer. I can analyse work(s) of art or design and use this to inform my personal response. Generating ideas I can suggest a limited range of ideas in response to a theme. I can suggest a range of ideas to select from in response to a theme. I can suggest a wide range of ideas to select from in response to a theme. Exploring and innovating I can develop initial ideas in a limited way. I can develop initial ideas through some exploration of media use and/or interpretation of the original theme. I can develop initial ideas through a wide exploration of media use and/or interpretation of the original theme. Making I can apply media and processes, demonstrating a limited understanding of the formal elements. I can apply media and processes to communicate my intentions, demonstrating some understanding of the formal elements. I can identify specific strengths and/or weaknesses in their own and others’ work. I can create and edit a portfolio that shows the artistic process I have followed to develop a response to a theme. I can create a final piece that reflects the artistic process and communicates intentions. I can select and apply media and processes to effectively communicate my intentions, demonstrating an understanding of the formal elements. I can identify specific strengths and/or weaknesses in their own and others’ work, and suggest improvements. I can create and edit a coherent portfolio that shows the artistic process I have followed to develop a response to a theme. I can create a resolved final piece that reflects the artistic process and effectively communicates intentions. Reflecting, resolving and presenting EXPLORING & DEVELOPING Personal choices in observation. Analysis and improvement I can identify general strengths and/or weaknesses in their own and others’ work Presentation of the artistic process I can create a simple portfolio that shows the artistic process I have followed in response to a theme. Presentation of the final piece I can create a final piece that is a result of some parts of the artistic process.
