1st November 2023 Dear Parents and Guardians, Exchange Program: Return trip to Medan In October Westlake International School was visited by students from Chandra Kumala International School in Medan, Indonesia. Our visitors had a wonderful time getting to know our students and school and giving a performance together with our WOW orchestra. We would like to repay the honor of that visit by a return visit to Medan. We hope to make this a returning yearly event to build upon the friendship between our students, schools and nations. Below is an overview of the program, a more detailed program is attached below. Date Location 1st May 2024, Wednesday Travel to Medan via Penang International Airport with Air Asia 2nd May 2024, Thursday Day program at Chandra Kumala School, including lessons, sport and musical performance 3rd May 2024, Friday Travel to Bukit Lawang for a Jungle Adventure with a big chance of seeing orangutans 4th May 2024, Saturday Travel back to Kampar via Penang International Airport with Air Asia Chandra Kumala School is located within the Cemara Asri housing area north of Medan. We will be staying at Cemara Asri Inn near the school for 2 nights. In Bukit Lawang we will be staying at On the Rocks Bungalows. Below is an overview of the cost of this exchange program based on 20 participants and 2 teachers. Cost (RM) Remarks Road transportation, meals, accommodation and activities 750 not included are snacks in between meals and any personal spending. Flights* 450 not inclusive of Visa on Arrival ** Total 1200 *Flight tickets prices currently available online, may be lower than stated. However flight prices and availability are subject to change and may be different at the time of purchase. The RM450 is inclusive of a scenario where we fly with Citilink and stay one night extra at Cemara Asri Inn and fly back on Sunday morning instead of Saturday evening. **For Malaysian nationals no visa is required to travel to Indonesia. Many other nationalities, including Japanese and Korean, require a visa on arrival. The cost is IDR 500000. Tickets can only be purchased after a sufficient number of registration forms have been received. If by the time of purchase ticket prices turn out to be lower than stated, the difference will be returned to you. If ticket prices turn out to be higher an additional payment would be required to secure your registration. Participants who are part of our WOW orchestra will be preparing for a performance together with the students from Chandra Kumala School’s orchestra. Other participants may join in international friendly matches of Basketball, Football or Badminton. I have organised similar programs from 2014 to 2019 and am familiar with Medan, Cemara Asri where the school is located, and Bukit Lawang where we go for jungle trekking.
