1. Joe and Nicole have been married for two years. They recently started discussing the subject of raising a
family. Although they both want children, Joe and Nicole want to be ready in every way before a baby arrives.
a) List 3 questions that Joe and Nicole need to ask themselves before becoming parents. (3 marks)
b) What advice would you have for Joe and Nicole? (1 mark)
2. Safa and Raj have been through some rough times during the five years they have been married. Safa is
hoping to get pregnant within the next year to help smooth out their marriage.
a) Do you think this couple is ready for a baby? Why or why not? (2 marks)
b) What additional problems or conflicts might a baby add to this relationship? (1 mark)
3. Seventeen year old Hannah is having difficulty coping with her parents’ divorce. Life at home just hasn’t been
easy in the last year. Hannah is glad she has a boyfriend to talk with and to keep her mind off her family
troubles. Lately, Hannah has been thinking about having a baby. She thinks that having a baby would bring
more meaning to her life.
a) Do you think Hannah is thinking logically? Why or why not? (2 marks)
b) What would be your advice to Hannah about having a baby at this time in her life? (1 mark)
4. Tim’s girlfriend, Holly, just told him that he will be a father in six months. Tim is feeling conflicting emotions over
the news. He is responsible and wants to do the right thing, but he has a mind set on attending university
starting next year. He doesn’t believe in running away from problems. Tim and Holly feel they are in love.

Your friend Jacob is 17 years old. Obviously upset, he confides that his girlfriend is pregnant. Her parents are
pushing for a marriage, but Jacob’s family wants him to have as little to do with the young woman as possible.
Jacob feels a strong sense of responsibility. He cares for his girlfriend, but the strained relationship with his
parents is hurting him. What could you say that might help him find a solution? (1 marks)
