C NG
Grade 11 and 12 are important years as students not
only have to achieve the best possible A level results
but also have to apply to university. Students have the
opportunity to research potential countries, universities
and courses to study at undergraduate level. This is
part of the Counselling Programme which also includes
understanding the various application processes
required for different countries, investigating funding
options and how to write a personal statement. In
addition, TH School has visiting universities who not
only talk about their admissions requirements but also
give students application advice. Students can attend
University Fairs, giving them the opportunity to speak
to representatives of universities from all over the
world!
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Assessment
m tra
The purpose of assessment during A level studies at TH
School is as a tool for providing targeted feedback
about the topics covered during the course to enable
students to focus on areas of development. The
external A level examinations take place during May
and June. In addition to these, students have mock
examinations in March and internal examinations in
November.

At TH School we take seriously the issue of academic
integrity. Academic Integrity Policy, which is available
in school, sets out the rights and responsibilities of the
student, school and teachers. Additionally, it outlines
the Cambridge examination board regulation.
Each student will sign an Academic Integrity

Mathematics is fundamentally problem solving and
representing systems and models in different ways.
These include:
Algebra: this is an essential tool which supports
and expresses mathematical reasoning and
provides a means to generalise across a number
of contexts.
Geometrical techniques: algebraic representations
also describe a spatial relationship, which gives us
a new way to understand a situation.
Calculus: this is a fundamental element which
describes change in dynamic situations and
underlines the links between functions and
graphs.

Mechanical models: these explain and predict
how particles and objects move or remain stable
under the influence of forces.
Statistical methods: these are used to quantify
and model aspects of the world around us.
Probability theory predicts how chance events
might proceed, and whether assumptions about
chance are justified by evidence.

Mathematical proof and reasoning is expressed using
algebra and notation so that others can follow each
line of reasoning and confirm its completeness and
accuracy. Mathematical notation is universal. Each
solution is structured, but proof and problem solving
also invite creative and original thinking.

Mathematical modelling can be applied to many
different situations and problems, leading to
predictions and solutions. A variety of mathematical
content areas and techniques may be required to
create the model. Once the model has been created
and applied, the results can be interpreted to give
predictions and information about the real world.

Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced (A) Level
Biology, Chemistry and Physics students are studying
the Cambridge International Examination (CIE)
syllabus which aims to provide students with a
curriculum that develops breadth and depth of
knowledge and understanding in specific scientific
disciplines. Students will become global citizens as
they develop an appreciation for the positive and
negative impacts that Science has on society,
economics, technology, ethics, industry, philosophy
and the environment. Success in A Level Science
courses requires that students can work both
collaboratively and independently, use scientific
vocabulary and conventions, and be able to
communicate and solve problems effectively.
The syllabus includes relevant practical work that aims
to provide a link between theoretical knowledge and
planning, inquiry and communication skills. They will
be expected to use their skills to carry out relevant
investigations safely using appropriate laboratory
equipment. Students will record results and
observations, interpret data using various statistical and
graphing techniques, draw conclusions which they will
substantiate using research and prior knowledge and
evaluate uses and limitations of the scientific method
in answering a research question.

autobiography. We study history to understand the
past, shed light upon the present and perhaps even
project ahead. History teaches us about diversity,
change, continuity, cause and consequence and we
learn to critically absorb great amounts of information.
Cambridge A Level History combines an international
programme with more specialized studies, whilst
equipping the students with essential skills,
transferable to any walk of life, like analysis, evaluation,
critical thinking, problem-solving and communication.

Global Perspectives |
It is widely recognised that we live in an increasingly
digitised and inter-connected world. The means by
which we access information and the pace with which
this takes place are profoundly changing the way we
learn, communicate and work. Increasingly, young
people are faced with access to a multiplicity of

competing ideas. In such an information-rich society,
young people need the skills and dispositions to be
able to think critically. In the broadest sense this means
that they need to: deconstruct arguments, differentiate
between the ways in which people express their
perspectives, views and arguments, assess and
evaluate claims and develop strong lines of reasoning.
This will ensure that the learner has the twenty-first
century skills to communicate and collaborate in
. Cambridge International AS Level
Global Perspectives & Research aims to encourage
young people to think about and explore issues of
global significance. Through well-defined stages, called
the Critical Path, learners will be encouraged to apply a
logical approach to thinking and reasoning. By
following this path, they will be able to analyse the
structure and context of arguments, assess the impact
and limitations of evidence and make well-reasoned
judgements. Learners will build skills in organising and
communicating their findings in appropriate
multimedia formats.
At TH School students will complete three out of their
four A-level components in grade 11 (AS). These are:
Recorded presentation of a global topic to an
audience within the school. This counts for 17.5%
of the final grade.
A written essay of 2000 words. This counts for
17.5% of the final grade.
A written exam on the structure of arguments and
perspectives. This counts for 15% of the final
grade.
In grade 12 students will produce a 5,000-word essay
on any scientific topic of their choosing. This counts for
50% of their final grade.

The key concepts for Cambridge International AS &
A Level Digital Media & Design are:
COMMUNICATION
|
|
Creativity is at the heart of a designer’s processes. It
pushes designers to question, investigate, experiment and take risks to create solutions that are
original and effective. Creative practitioners use
curiosity, imagination and innovation to solve design
problems in new ways.
INNOVATION
Thiết kế Kỹ thuật số Cambridge International AS & A
Level:
GIAO TIẾP
The essential purpose of any piece of digital design
is to communicate. Designers need to understand
that the relationship their work builds with the
audience is influenced by many things, including
their chosen media and methods. Effective communication is also essential for operating in today’s
design world, which demands collaboration and
engagement with wider cultures and emerging
technologies.
CREATIVITY
Innovation means experimenting with processes,
approaches and technologies. A willingness to
innovate builds confidence, and helps develop
awareness of new ways of looking at things, which is
fundamental to digital media and design. A skilled
designer selects the techniques and processes that
communicate their message in the most effective
way.
17
Grades 11 & 12 Curriculum
INTENTION
|
Ý ĐỊNH
An intention is the starting point of any project, from
which a designer starts to develop ideas. An intention or purpose can come from a brief, proposal or
research, while at other times it might begin as an
idea or feeling. Though an intention is the reason to
start a project, it is important to understand that the
intention can evolve as work develops.
CRITICAL REFLECTION
|
NHẬN XÉT PHẢN BIỆN
Critical reflection and user feedback is the ongoing
process that helps designers to learn what works and
what doesn’t. Designers need to evaluate how the
media, techniques and processes they choose affect
how their work communicates meaning. This
process can help work become more relevant and
coherent.
RESEARCH AND CONTEXT
|
|
Component 1
Portfolio
100 marks
Candidates choose a theme from the list in the
syllabus.
There are two elements to the portfolio:
supporting studies and
a proposal
Externally assessed 50% of the AS Level 25% of the
A Level.
18
First-hand research helps designers to develop their
ideas and refine their practice. Actively researching
and responding to other practitioners, cultures and
creative movements gives the designer a broader
view. A designer can use this to improve their
practice and understand how their work connects
with its intended audience.
ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) is the
health development. It helps to give them the skills,
knowledge, attitudes and values they need to lead
confident, healthy and independent lives. It helps
them to understand how they are developing
personally and socially, and addresses many of the
moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing
up. By teaching students to stay safe and healthy, and
by building self-esteem, resilience and empathy, an
effective PSHE programme can tackle barriers to
learning, raise aspirations, and improve the life chances
and give students an understanding of the rights and
responsibilities and how they can contribute to their
community.
At TH School the PSHE curriculum has 3 main
outcomes:
Development of personal and social skills
essential to effective communication, working
with others, taking responsibility for oneself,
learning and achievement, and management of
health and wellbeing.
Acquisition of relevant information on a range of
topics including emotional health and wellbeing,
relationships, healthy eating and exercise,
community service, sexual health, careers and
university, citizenship and digital safety.
Clarification and development of attitudes and
values that support self-esteem, are positive to
health and wellbeing and encourage active
participation.
