MS_AIS Procedure
Description
The MS_AIS alarm indicates a multiplex section alarm, triggered when bits 6 to 8 of the
K2 byte in three consecutive frames are "111".
Impact on the System
Services on the line port are interrupted. If configured with protection, protection
switching is activated.
Possible Causes

The transmit unit of the peer site is malfunctioning.
The receive unit of the local site is malfunctioning.
Procedure
Cause 1: The transmit unit of the peer site is faulty.

Replace the faulty board at the peer site, depending on the type of alarmreporting board:
• If the line board reports the alarm, replace the line unit board at the peer end.
• If the IF board reports the alarm, replace the IF board at the peer site.
• After replacement, verify if the alarm is cleared.
If the alarm clears, conclude alarm handling.
If the alarm persists, proceed to the next step.
• Replace the system control, switching, and timing board at the peer site if the
alarm persists after the initial replacement.
• After replacement, recheck for alarm clearance.
If the alarm clears, conclude alarm handling.
If the alarm persists, proceed to cause 2.
Cause 2: The receive unit of the local site is faulty.

Replace the board reporting the alarm at the local site.
