My dream job is to be an embedded systems engineer. An embedded systems engineer designs, develops and tests specialized computing systems dedicated to performing a specific function within a larger system. Examples of these systems include flight control systems in aircrafts, monitoring systems in medical appliances, engine control systems in automobiles, etc. Engineering mechanics fits into embedded systems and computer engineering as a whole through numerous avenues, such as sensor integration, understanding of physical limitations and better collaboration with engineers of different fields. To start, having a background in engineering mechanics gives a greater understanding of how the technologies designed would interact with the rest of the external environment. Engineering mechanics gives a grasp of how forces and motion impact a body. A typical example of how mechanics fits into computer engineering is in designing embedded systems. Designing an embedded system that functions dependably and effectively requires understanding of this subject because it is a part of a larger body that can be affected by forces. For instance, designing a flight control system for a plane can only be done effectively with prior experience in mechanics. In addition, engineering mechanics fits in my major and my dream career through collaboration with other fields of engineering. In the workplace, teams consist of different members with different skill sets. Having a mutual understanding in a crucial area of design is essential. In the case of embedded systems for example, these are smaller devices inside larger machinery. Understanding mechanics helps reduce misunderstanding between a computer engineer and a mechanical or civil engineer, increasing team productivity. Lastly, engineering mechanics aligns with my dream career and course through sensor integration. To track the actions of mechanical systems, embedded systems commonly rely on sensors. Engineers can choose the right sensors based on physical qualities, such as accelerometers for motion detection or strain gauges for monitoring deformation, by having a strong understanding of mechanics. In summary, in my course and dream career in embedded systems, mechanics is key. From being able to effectively collaborate on teams with other fields of engineers, improving my understanding of how the systems interact with the external environment and sensor integration, engineering mechanics fits well into both my major and dream job.
