Commissioning: The first level of commissioning consists of 3 parts: C1 (a) level commissioning (defect listing) C1 (b) level commissioning (power on / dynamic testing) C1 (c) level commissioning (cold / material commissioning) C2 level commissioning (hot commissioning) C3 level commissioning (production build-up and optimisation) C1 (a) level Commissioning (defect Listing). This includes the defect listing of discrete parts of equipment or systems by the project team (commissioning engineer, maintenance engineer, production manager and engineering and production group leaders). C1 (b) level commissioning (power on / dynamic testing). This involves running the equipment or module cold / dry to test or perform relevant checks on the equipment or system. After all safety checks have been completed, all equipment such as conveyors, motors, crushers etc. are run for short periods under the supervision of the commissioning engineer, maintenance engineers, production manager and group leaders in accordance with the running tests and procedures provided by the commissioning engineer. C1(c) level commissioning (cold commissioning). It is essential that all the construction activities, in the applicable area, are complete at this stage. Cold commissioning must only commence once a discreet piece of equipment or system is ready to run sequentially. C2 level commissioning (hot commissioning). The production manager or an appropriately qualified metallurgist must take over full responsibility for the material commissioning on the discreet piece of equipment or system. The purpose of this stage of commissioning is to introduce material to the equipment or system, starting at low rates and building up progressively until rated capacities are achieved. C3 level commissioning (production build-up and optimisation). Production build-up and optimisation follows material commissioning. It is essentially the start-up phase. A comprehensive list of all process equipment requiring optimisation must be made available together with the expected performance criteria.
