The teacher will show a picture of a polluted ocean.
Ask: What have you observed in the picture?

What do you think is the reason why our oceans became polluted?
B. Lesson Proper:
1. Listening Activity
The teacher will read the short paragraph to the class.
The ocean’s delicate coral reefs are affected by changes caused by humans. To illustrate,
dumping waste products and garbage in the sea results in changes in the natural environment.
Due to the changes, the ocean becomes polluted, and as a consequence, coral reefs are damaged.
When the ocean becomes extensively, polluted, coral reefs die.
2. Comprehension Check-up
1. Who are responsible in the destruction of our ocean?
2. Based from the selection, give one activity that destroys the ocean.
3. If the ocean is extensively polluted, what will happen to the coral reefs?
3. Discussion/Skill Development

Match the effect to its cause then write a paragraph using the jumbled sentences below containing
cause-and-effect relationships. Use transitional words or expressions like so, because, and since in
connecting the cause and the effect.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Based on the given diagram, write a paragraph describing the causes stated in the boxes and the
effect mentioned in the circle. Use the transitional word (since, because, as a result of, due to the fact,
consequently) in connecting the causes and the effect. Use a separate sheet of paper.
