Steel Frame Organisation
David D. (Steel frame Package Manager – D&B Contractor)
Consultants Design (Architects and Engineers – white boxes), Management offsite (D&B Contractor – green boxes) and Steel frame offsite
(blue boxes)
The development of the system and detailed design and the communication between the steel frame STC (Ian D. et al.) and the Engineers (Ross H. et
al.) is done usually through the D&B Contractor Design Manager (James W. et al.), i.e. there is no direct contact between the Engineers and the steel
frame STC designers. Direct contact happens sometimes but not on a regular basis and these workshops should be organised by the D&B Contractor
to be able to control and manage the process. The development of the design and the management of design changes are carried out by the D&B
Contractor change control team headed by James W. to deal with commercial issues as well as design and construction issues. The D&B Contractor
change control team forms the link between the consultant engineers design team and the steel frame STC designers in order to make sure the D&B
Contractor and the Client are aware and in control of the implications of any changes on the cost, time and quality. This is of course, applicable to all
other trade contractors.
Management onsite (D&B Contractor – yellow boxes)
Onsite team (David D.) do not talk to consultant engineers designers directly either, i.e. any negotiations or communications should go through D&B
Contractor offsite management team (James W. et al.) as they know exactly what the contract is about, what is within the scope of work, the cost
and programme issues, etc. Once things clarified by the D&B Contractor offsite team then these are passed to the supply chain through the onsite
D&B Contractor team.
David Mc. (Project Manager of Steel frame STC)
Steel frame offsite (blue boxes)
The steel frame STC offsite team are dealing with the connection design and coordinating of the consultant engineers’ information into the BIM
model. Ian D. deals with the connection design and temporary works. Stephen G. is the technical manager and deals with the BIM model. He
is based in the drawing office and is responsible for coordinating drawings back and thorough the system.
At the detail design level there are a list of designers who design the connections and detailers who produce the detailed designs (Kevin M. et al.).
These are then taken back to the consultant engineers through the following route: Ian D. & Stephen G. (STC)  David D (D&B)  James W. (D&B)
 Ross H. (Eng.)  Diego P. (Eng.).
Steel frame onsite (pink boxes)
The steel frame STC onsite project manager is David Mc. The site manager is Andy R. Foremen are Rob M. and Alex T. and finally the installation team
is headed by Trevor C. (Steel), Richard C. (Deck) and Andy B. (Steel).
