Cerezo, Jim Ryan V. GE-INDI - BSIS SM 1B - BSCE 3 The film's theme revolves around the acceptance of LGBTQIA+ individuals in society and their treatment. The filmmakers aim to convey that regardless of how different they may seem, LGBTQIA+ individuals are still people deserving of acceptance. Additionally, the film touches on Anton's struggle with his father's lack of acceptance towards him. The lesson to be learned is the importance of not being afraid to express oneself, no matter who you are. Like Anton, one must find the courage to be themselves despite facing rejection and finding supportive friends who embrace and support them. The revelation about Anton's father's past adds a surprising layer to the story. One aspect that may have been unclear in the movie is the transition of Anton's mother into his father and the backstory behind this identity and gender change. More information on this part would have been helpful. The support system shown by Anton's friends and the confrontation/revelation about his father's past are among the most impactful moments in the film. Anton is my favorite character due to his compelling portrayal and relatable story, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community. My least favorite are the bashers or bullies within the gay community. It's puzzling how they can tear others down when they should be supporting each other, given their shared experiences of societal marginalization. Anton's father's extreme actions towards his lover can be seen as a defense mechanism born out of his distrust towards men, prioritizing his son's safety above all else, albeit in a misguided way. The film sheds light on the struggles of parents in accepting their children's true identities and the real relationships LGBTQIA+ individuals have within society and with their parents, often influenced by outdated beliefs. However, it also highlights the potential for resolution through open communication.
