Wally and the Banker Brigade - A Short Story

advertisement
Once upon a frosty morning in the icy fjords of the Arctic, there lived a remarkable walrus named Wally. Unlike
his fellow walruses who spent their days basking on icebergs and honking at passing seals, Wally had a burning
desire for adventure.
Wally’s discontent began when he accidentally stumbled upon a discarded newspaper. The headline screamed,
“Bankers Reaping Profits While Polar Bears Struggle!” Wally’s tusks twitched with indignation. He had seen
enough. It was time to take matters into his own flippers.
Armed with a pair of old ski poles he found in a shipwreck, Wally set off on his noble quest. His mission: to
confront the nefarious Banker Brigade—a group of penguin-suited financiers who controlled the world’s
economy from their secret ice fortress.
Chapter 1: The Ski Pole Showdown
Wally waddled across frozen tundras, his ski poles clutched tightly. His walrus friends watched in bewilderment.
“Wally, what are you doing?” they asked. “You’re a walrus, not a warrior!”
But Wally was undeterred. He reached the Banker Brigade’s lair—an imposing igloo adorned with dollar signs.
Inside, the bankers huddled around a spreadsheet, plotting interest rates and stock market maneuvers.
Wally barged in, tusks gleaming. “Gentlemen,” he boomed, “your greed stops here!”
The chief banker, a portly penguin named Mr. Frostbite, scoffed. “What can a walrus do against the power of
compound interest?”
Wally twirled his ski poles. “Plenty,” he growled. “Prepare for a frosty reckoning!”
Chapter 2: The Avalanche of Justice
The battle raged. Wally swung his ski poles like a seasoned warrior. He knocked over stacks of gold bars,
disrupted high-frequency trading algorithms, and sent stock certificates flying. The bankers stumbled, their
monocles askew.
Mr. Frostbite lunged, but Wally sidestepped, tripping him with a well-aimed flipper. “Your subprime mortgages
won’t save you now!” Wally declared.
Outside, the aurora borealis danced as if cheering for the walrus. The Banker Brigade was no match for Wally’s
righteous fury.
Chapter 3: The Meltdown
As dawn approached, Wally cornered Mr. Frostbite. The penguin trembled, his briefcase of ill-gotten gains
slipping from his flippers.
“You’ve ruined us!” Mr. Frostbite wailed. “Our hedge funds! Our offshore accounts!” Wally leaned in. “Consider this a bailout,” he said, poking Mr. Frostbite’s chest with a ski pole. “From now on,
invest in kindness, not greed.”
And so, the Banker Brigade disbanded. Wally returned to his iceberg, ski poles slung over his back. His walrus
friends gathered around, eyes wide.
“Wally,” they whispered, “you’re a legend!”
Wally grinned. “Remember, my friends,” he said, “even a walrus can fight for a fairer financial system.”
And so, in the Arctic twilight, Wally became a symbol—a tusked avenger, a ski pole-wielding hero. And whenever
the wind howled through the fjords, they say you can still hear the echo of his battle cry: “Frostbite, beware!”
