Zero hunger – How can you help to achieve this? We all want ourselves and our families to have enough food and nutrition available right? But guess what, not everyone has the access to good food. World hunger has been a problem since ages. It is an infringement of the most basic of human rights - the right to adequate food. Hence it becomes our duty to be able to provide food and water to those who are less fortunate. Hunger can be a result of poverty. This is a vicious cycle that starts with people living in situations not fit for human beings and not having access to nutritious food to birthing a baby that is malnourished. So there is an urgent need to eliminate hunger to a large extent. If you aren’t familiar with Allan Law aka Sandwich guy, here’s what you should know. Allan Law founded the program, Minneapolis Recreation Development, with the primary focus to feed and provide assistance to as many people as in need. He has volunteered for hours on the end, and has spent almost $500,000 serving the poor and homeless in the Minneapolis area. By trying to eliminate hunger we can improve the productivity of people which would in turn be useful for improving our economy. The sustainable development org states that it would cost an estimated additional $267 billion per year on average to end world hunger by 2030. By forming organizations and encouraging people to invest for one goal: to provide food to the less privileged section of the society. We come to the most important question. How can you help in eliminating world hunger? You can start by doing small changes right in your home. By not wasting food, donating any leftovers before they get spoilt to local shelters and help in avoiding wastage. By buying produce from local farmers instead of hypermarkets. Have a birthday to celebrate? Why not celebrate with the under privileged children. You would be doing a good deed and at the same time bring a smile on these children’s face. Every individual deserves to be able to have the access to their basic right – right to food. Hence, I encourage you to help in putting an end to world hunger at the root cause.
