How it started It all started when The vikings attempted to raid England, but Harold Godwinson managed to slay the viking king, Harold Hardrada. The vikings began to flee from England, as they have lost around half of their soldiers. William of Normandy William had spies all over England, so he knew that most English soldiers were weak due to the fact that they had just battled with Norway. 3 days after the battle of Stamford bridge, William raided the south of England, and began to terrorize the village of Hasting. Eventually, the English men had marched to the south and had began to battle with the Normans on Senlac Hill. The Twist During the battle, one of William’s spies started a rumor that William of Normandy was dead, so the Normans began to retreat. The Englishmen followed them down the hill, which left them out of position and extremely vulnerable. Suddenly, William of Normandy ran to his army and told them to attack the Englishmen. Then, William went and killed Harold Godwinson, and declared himself king. Later on, someone named Edgar in England was chosen as king, but William became aggravated and murdered Edgar. End of the battle of Hastings From that point on he was the king of England for a while, and the medieval times had began.
