Icons of fashion We think we look cool and modern in our jeans, white T-shirt and leather jacket, but it’s not original as we think. This look goes back to 100 years ago. The white T-shirt and leather jacket started their life in the military. The T-shirt was in fact underwear, which American Navy worn under a uniform. Leather jackets were born by fighter pilots in the first World War. Then, in 1928, an American raincoat company, Schott, designed the first leather motorcycle jacket with a zip. But I’ve never been a fan of leather jackets and I don’t understand how to combinate them into beautiful looks. By the 1950s both garments had reached iconic status when famous actors wore them in films. In the 1970s T-shirts got a colorful update. Brightly-colored T-shirts were popular as well as a T-Shirts with band logos and political slogans. Having started out as a 20 undergarment for men, T-shirts became unisex in the 1970s and have been part of everyone's wardrobe since then. Our fashionably distressed jeans are cutting-edge fashion items now, but they can be traced even further back in history. In 1800s in France was made denim, the material jeans are made of and blue jeans were named after the city in which It was invented. But their popularity spread after the Second World War. Young people started wearing jeans to imitate young Hollywood stars. However, they were associated with rebellious behavior and were banned in schools. So each time you wear your jeans, white T-shirt and black leather jacket, you're actually wearing 100 years of style history!
