ABSTRACT
This technical report is on student industrial work experience (SIWES) which is
normally at the end of second semester of ND1 as a pre requisite for the award of
national diploma in computer science. The scope and details of report comprise of
practical experience and observation acquired during the three months of training
with Polytechnic ICT Geidam L.G.A During this course a comparison was made
between theoretical knowledge in the class and practical skills in the cafe.

BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT (SIWES)
INTRODUCTION
1.0 Siwes was established by ITF in 1973 to solve the problem of lack of adequate
practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates of
tertiary istitution.
The scheme exposes student to industry based skills necessary for a smoth
transition from the classroom to the world of wor. It affords student of tertiary
institution, the opportunity of being familiarized and expoded to the needed
experience in handing machinery and equipment which are usually not available in
the educational institution.
One of the primary goal of the siwes is to help student intergrade leadership
development in to the experiential learning process. Student is expected to learn
and develop basic non profit leadership skills through a mentoring relationship
wath innovation non profit leaders.
1.1 By integrating learnership development activities in to industrial training
experience,we hope to encourage student actively engaged in non profit
management as a professional career objective. How ever, the effectiveness
effectiveness of the siwes experience will have varying out come based upon the
individual student, the work assignment,and the supervisor/mentor
requirements.operation the ITF the coordinating agencies (NUC,NCCE,NBTE)
employers of labour and the institution.funding the federal government of Nigeria
beneficiaries undergraduate student of the following:
Agriculture, engineering, technology, environment, science, education,

and colleges of education,and six month for the universities

1.2THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE OBJECTIVE OF SIWES:
1. SIWES will provide student the opportunity to test their interest in a particular
career before permanent commitment is made.
2. SIWES student will develop skills application of theory and practical work
situation.
3. SIWES will provide student the opportunity to test their aptitude for a particular
career before permanent commitment is made.
4. SIWES student will develop skills and technique directely applicable to their
carees.
5. SIWES will aid student in adjusting from colleges to full time employment.
6. SIWES will provide student the opportunity to develop attitudes conductive to
effective interpersonal relations.
7. SIWES will increase a students sense of responsibility.

2.0 BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION
THE HISTORY OF ORGANIZATION

the library know as fane fane librery and the librery locared at admin site
0f the institution ,the librery is opposited 0f information communiication
technologies know
(I.T.C) center.the librery is resposible to the rector for the administraction of the
polytechnic
librery coordinated of the services in the department and the reseach unit of the
polytechnic
2.1 LOCATION OF THE ORGANIZATION
The organization is located as inside of the mai idriss polytechnic geidam.
This is the description of the organization.
CHAPTER THREE
3.0 MICROSOFT WORD
Is a graphical word processing program that users can type with. It is made by the
computer company microsoft.it purpose is to allow users to type and save
documents. Similar to other word processors,it has helpful tools to make
documents.
3.1 FIBER OPTIC CABLE
Is a high speed data transmission medium. It cotains tiny glass or plastic filaments
that carry light beams. Digital data is transmitted through The cablevia raping
pulses of light.
3.2 SPREADSHEET
pplication package that mostly operates with rows and columns of number or the
screen and allows the users to enter values labels and formulas for automated
calculation of some expected results.
3.3 WEBSITE
Is a collection of related network web pages multimedia content which are
typically identified with a common domain name ,and published on at least one
web server .noteble examples are Wikipedia .org , Google .com,and
amazing.com.websites can have many function and con be used in various
fashions, a website can be a personal website,a corporate website an organization
website,e.t.c, website are typically dedicated to aparticuar topic or purpose ranging
from entertainment and social networkking to providing news and education.
3.4 HARD DISK
Is and electromechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store
and retrieve digital information using one or more rigid repidly rotating disks
eoated with magnetic material. The platters are paired with magnetic heads, usually
arranged on a moving actuator arm, which read and write data to the platter
surfaces.
3.5 ELECTRONIC MAIL OR E MAIL
Is method of exchanging messages between people using electronic devices.
Invented by Ray Tomlinson,email first entered limited use in the 1960 and by the
mid 1970 had taken the form now recognized.
3.6 DEFRAGMENTATION
Is the process of locating non-contiguous fragments of data in to which a
computer file may be divided as it is store on a hard disk,and rearranging the
fragments and restoring them fewer fragment. To keep your computer running it's
best,you should defragment or consolidate file,on your hard drive.
3.7 COMPUTER VIRUS
Is a type of malicious software or program. A piece of code which is capable of
copying it self and typically has a detrimental effect, such as corrupting the system
or destroying data.
3.8 DOCUMENTS SCANNING
Is the practice of using scanners to convert paper documents in digitalimages.

Is and electronic payment platform that helps individuals and organizations to
easily receive and make payment across all banks,from any where and at any time.
3.10 COMPUTER NETWORK
Is a digital telecommunication network which allows nodes to share resources.
A local area network is a network that interconnect computers within a limited
area such as residence, school, laboratory,or office building.
CHAPTER FOUR
SUMMARY
4.0 The program has become an opportunity for me to acquired industrial skills
and experience. It also prepared me for the work situation that, I am like,and in
addition it exposed me to work, know the method and techniques in handing
equipment and machineries that are not available in my institution. Since it has
provided me with opportunity to applied theoretical knowledge with real work
situation, aims and the gap between theory and practical has been bringed. There
are so may king of work that Ware conducted which include m.s word,email, virus,
scanning documents,web side e.t.c

RECOMMENDATION
1. allowance should be paid to students to alleviate hardship
2.it recommended that I T F officer should go for supervision rather than student
taking their logbook for I T F signing.
3.lastly the organization should allow student to fully take part in every aspect
during the training exercise so as to enable the students benefit more.

CONCLUSION
In the conclusion of my attachment i found my self well expose to the practical
aspect in relation to my course more knowledge experience and skill from the
working site which I did not understand the theoretical in my institution.
