Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: Identify at least three key factors contributing to human flourishing and dedevelopment. Value each other’s ideas towards promoting human flourishing and its relationship towards the different factors. Motivation The teacher will ask the students questions such as: Upon daily observations, what can you say have changed in regards to the state of the following: - Environment? - Economy? - Technology? C. Lesson Proper C.1. Activity – By group The class will be divided into appropriate groups depending on the availability of data connection. Each group will be assigned different terms for them to research online for about 5 minutes. (Development, Dedevelopment, Progress, Sustainable Development, Human Flourishing, and Degrowth) Then the teacher will also give each group appropriate time to discuss what they have researched about C.2. Analysis The teacher will ask the following questions to the students: What have you understood about all of the terms presented? What is the relationship between the terms you have been assigned? How do all those terms influence each other? C.3. Abstraction Human Flourishing in Progress and De-development Definition of Terms 1. Development - a process that creates growth, progress, positive change or the addition of physical, economic, environmental, social and demographic components. 2. De-development - is a novel concept where the developed nations should reduce their per capita consumptions to help the under developed countries to suffice their requirements. This was also brought under the purview of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). 3. Progress - movement toward an improved or more developed state, or to a forward position 4. Sustainable Development - is development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 5. Human Flourishing - 17 Goals for People, for Planet - The Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals. The Concept (as proposed by Jason Hickel) - the ability to live a good life. Human flourishing embraces our shared humanity and serves everyone's interest. of De-development Jason Hickel coined the term Degrowth, calling for a reduction of resource and energy throughput in rich nations to get back within planetary boundaries, so that poorer nations can increase throughput to meet human needs. It is, in other words, a demand for radical convergence and global justice.
