ASME Section V – Nondestructive Examination HSB, a Munich Re company, is a technology-driven company built on a foundation of specialty insurance, engineering and technology, all working together to drive innovation in a modern world. Course description: This seminar is a basic introductory overview of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section V, Nondestructive Examination (2023 Edition) and how it is referenced by other standards. The seminar covers the layout of Section V and focuses on the five most commonly used NDE methods: radiography, ultrasonic examination, magnetic particle examination, liquid penetrant examination, and visual examination. General requirements related to performance of these methods are addressed. Information on “newer” examination techniques such as computerized and digital radiography (RT-Article 2 appendices), phased array ultrasonics, time of flight diffraction (TOFD), and fixed matrix capture (FMC) (UT – Article 4 appendices) is also included. Comparisons of NDE Examiner qualifications found in ASME Section I, Section VIII, Division 1 and B 31.1 and how they relate to Section V are explained. Who should attend? The intended audience includes those using Section V for the first time, as well as persons with more extensive Code exposure. Experience as an NDE Examiner is not required.
