Word count: 312
(1) I quickly awoke
(2) Only to be deafened by a piercing blare
(3) My ears came to a tear
(4) My sweat pouring
(5) What was it that I heard?
(6) I could only rely on hope
(7) Only to find
(8) My mother, lying on the floor
(9) Silent… still as a statue
The blood trickled from under her lifeless body
(10)
(11)
My hope—DESTROYED
(12)
I only see red
Time slowed with the beat of my heart
(13)
(14)
Thud— thud— thud
(15)
As a film of memories plays in my mind
(16)
A sharp bitterness stabs me deep into my heart
(17)
I could not move
(18)
I just broke apart
(19)
An experience many others suffered
(20)
Many others grieved
(21)
Many others sorrowed
(22)
(23)
(24)
(25)
(26)
I had hope
I truly did
Those who fall into autocracy:
What is this hypocrisy?!
When you claim democracy
—You asked me to have hope
(28)
And I truly did
(29)
I once had hope
(27)
(30)
You come and tell me
(31)
You wish for a happy world
(32)
You wish for a peaceful world
(33)
But you proceed to ignite the war?
Don’t explain yourself anymore!
(35)
You lied to me
And YOU triggered this war
(34)
(36)
(38)
(37)
Don’t try to blind me with your lies
You are the ones who turned away when it came to my cries
(40)
(39)
So don’t claim peace
When you are the first to destroy it
(41)
(42)
(44)
Don’t say, no more war
When you are the first to create it
(43)
Don’t wish for hope
When you are the one who obliterated it
(45)
(49)
Because I once had hope
(46)
I truly did
(47)
The world of peace
(48)
You claim to build…
Doesn’t look like what I thought it would
(50)
Instead of rainbow skies
(51)
I see smog
(52)
(53)
Instead of laughter
I hear bombs
(54)
Instead of joyful tears
(55)
(56)
(57)
I hear cries
Instead of generosity
I see selfishness
(58)
Instead of friendship
(59)
I see hostility
(60)
(61)
So don’t ask for peace
And don’t ask me to have hope
(62)
(63)
Because I once did
I once had hope
