DIET TOPIC 7.1 Creator : Adrito Chakrabarti 01 ADRITO What is diet? the food eaten by an animal everyday is called is diet. Humans need six types of nutrients in theire diet. These are 1. Carbohydrates 2. Protiens 3. Fats 4. Vitamins 5. Minerals 6. Water A diet which contains all of these nutrient in abalanced proportion is knokn as a balanced diet. ADRITO Energy needs Everyday a person uses up energy .the amount you use partly depends on how old are you , which sex are you And what job you do. For example : A pregnant woman would use twice as much energy as a normal human which is Around 2356 k/cal per day BOA SLAYCAMP Fats and oils Fats and oil are needed for energy, and to make cell membranes . We store excess fat and in our adipose tissue Function: 1. Provides insulation , reducing heat loss from the body 2. It can also form a protective layer around the body organs such as kidneys , providing mechanical protection Some sources of fat are Cooking oils Meat Eggs Dairy products Fun fact : our brain is made up of about 60% of fat MIGGY ● Protein Proteins are needed to build new cell walls for growth . They are also used for making protein such as hemoglobin, insulin and antibodies( which help to kill harmful pathogens . The sources of protein are meat ,fish ,eggs , peas and lentils Insulin is a hormone which is secreted from the pancrease ADRITO Vitamins and minerals . Vitamins are organic substances which only needed in certain amounts . If u do not have enough of a vitamin , you may get a deficiency disease Minerals are inorganic substances. Once again only small amounts of mineral are needed . If we consume more minerals than needed it may lead to various health conditions such as gastrointestinal issues Fibre Fibre helps to keep the alimentary canal working properly. The alimentary canal is the part of the digestive system through which food passes through as it moves from the mouth to the anus . Food moves through the alimentary canal of peristalsis. The muscles are stimulated to do this when there is food in the alimentary canal. Soft food do not stimulate muscles very much. The muscles are stimulated to do this when there is harder less digestible like fibre. So fibre help to keep the alimentary canal working properly Thank you……
