Background on Statics (Pre-requisition)
Engineering Mechanics I or Statics includes;
▪ Establish free body diagrams, vectors
▪ Solve equilibrium problems
▪ Internal /external forces, Reaction Forces
▪ Analyze distributed loads
▪ Structural Analysis, Diagrams
▪ Centroids, First/Second Moment of Inertia
etc………
Introduction
Mechanics of materials course involves both analysis and
design of a given structure under load by determining stresses
and deformations.
The objectives of this course are:
➢To develop techniques for the quantitative analysis of the
behavior of structures in tension, torsion and bending.
➢To learn some techniques to determine the stress and strain
states.
➢To develop an understanding elastic buckling.
➢To obtain skill in solving problems including the analysis of
statically indeterminated structures.
