GROUP 4 PRESENTATION Business Proposal Background Analysis and Tourism Status Pamilacan Island is a small island which is part of the municipality of Baclayon. It is between the deep sea of Bohol and Mindanao. It is only a 1-hour pump or outrigger boat ride from the town of Baclayon. It has three sitios, one at the southern coast, one situated inland and the other facing the town of Baclayon. Home to more or less 200 families, this fishing community is closely knit. Their main livelihood is fishing, and in the past has gone after whales, manta rays and dolphins. Their houses are often decorated with large whale jaws and bones and these ‘relics’ adds to the interesting facet of the island. The current tourism status in Pamilacan Island in Bohol is a mixed bag. On one hand, the island has seen a significant increase in tourist arrivals in recent years, thanks to its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and rich marine life. The island's unique selling point, the "Pamilacan Island Tour," which offers a guided tour of the island's coastline, snorkeling, and dolphin-watching opportunities, has been a major draw for tourists. 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 On the other hand, the island's infrastructure has struggled to keep up with the influx of tourists. The island's only resort, the Pamilacan Island Resort, has been fully booked during peak season, leaving many tourists with limited accommodation options. Additionally, the island's waste management system has been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of tourists, leading to concerns about environmental sustainability. To address these challenges, the local government has implemented measures to regulate tourism and ensure sustainable development. These measures include implementing a tourist fee, which will be used to fund infrastructure development and environmental protection initiatives. The government has also launched a campaign to promote responsible tourism practices among visitors, such as proper waste disposal and respect for the island's natural resources. SWOT ANALYSIS STRENGTH *Natural Beauty: Pamilacan Island boasts stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life, making it a popular tourist destination. *Marine Biodiversity: The island offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving, with a rich marine ecosystem that includes dolphins, turtles, and various coral species. *Ecotourism Potential: Pamilacan Island's commitment to sustainable tourism practices and community involvement presents opportunities for ecoconscious travelers. WEAKNESSES * Limited Infrastructure: Pamilacan Island lacks some key infrastructure elements such as proper waste management systems and reliable transportation options. *Seasonal; Limitations: The island's tourism industry is highly influenced by seasonal factors, with peak tourist seasons occurring during particular months, leading to local income fluctuations. *Limited Accommodation Options: Currently, the island has limited accommodation choices, which might hinder the growth potential of tourism in the area. SWOT ANALYSIS OPPORTUNITIES *Infrastructure Development: Investing in infrastructure improvements such as waste management facilities, better transportation links, and improved access to utilities could attract more visitors and support sustainable tourism growth. *Marketing and Promotion: There is an opportunity to increase awareness of Pamilacan Island's unique offerings through effective marketing campaigns, targeting adventure-seeking and natureloving tourists. THREATS *Community Involvement: Encouraging residents to actively participate in tourism-related activities and offering training programs can improve overall visitor experiences and build a sense of local pride. *Environmental Impact: Unregulated tourism activities may harm the island's delicate marine ecosystem and natural resources if sustainable practices are not enforced. *Competition: Nearby islands and destinations in Bohol offer similar attractions, posing competition for Pamilacan Island. *Natural Disasters: The island is susceptible to natural calamities such as typhoons and earthquakes, which can disrupt tourism operations and infrastructure.
