Eastaboga Bap st Church Teacher’s Covenant “A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.” – Jesus (Lk. 6:40) As a follower of Christ and as a member of Eastaboga Bap st Church, as a steward of God’s gi ing and ministry at Eastaboga Bap st Church, and as one who holds the role of a leadership posi on within Eastaboga Bap st Church’s ministries, I recognize the very high, honorable, and serious responsibility as a Bible Teacher! I realize that I am to engage within this role to my upmost and greatest ability so as to bring honor and glory unto God by teaching other’s the Word of God and by exemplifying, before others, that I prac ce what I teach! 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” A teacher is to teach the truth of the Word of God, live out that truth in their own lives, and then encourage those that they are teaching, to follow their teaching and life, as they follow Christ! The Apostle Paul said, “be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1). With that understanding, I also understand that my role as a follower of Christ and as a teacher of God’s word is to accomplish God’s kingdom plans by: • Equipping others to serve within the body of Christ. • Edifying (educa ng and illumina ng) the body of Christ about God’s word. • To promote unity in the body of Christ. • To promote wisdom, maturity, understanding, and love in the lives of others in the body of Christ. According to the Apostle Paul, Ephesians 4:11-16 says, “11And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 ll we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning cra iness of decei ul plo ng, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the e ec ve working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” Finally, I also understand and acknowledge that, before God, I “will incur a stricter judgment” (James 3:1) due to the seriousness and weight of this role and because of its e ects upon others in my failure to teach in the manner God’s word sets for me! And so, believing that the privilege of guiding others in their discovery and applica on of Scripture is worthy of my best, I commit to… ti ti ti tti ff ff ti tf ti ft ti ti ti ti ti ti ti ft ti Con nually develop my personal rela onship with Jesus Christ (Mark 10:21) • • Priori ze my conduct in keeping with the principles of the Bible and seek the Holy Spirit’s help in my life (Eph. 4:1) • Maintain a Christ-like witness by abstaining from drunkenness, sexual immorality, unwholesome speech, gossip, gambling, etc. (James 1:22; Eph. 5:18). • Be faithful to my class by arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the class session and, in case of an unavoidable absence, no fying my director and securing a replacement (1 Cor. 4:2) • Take the required me I need each week to prepare for the teaching session and seek to incorporate my own gi s in my teaching (2 Tim. 2:15) • Use the Bible as my main curriculum resource and help my class discover and apply the truth of Scripture (Ps. 119:16) • Seek to build community in my class by helping class members and prospects know one another and support each other in prayer, fellowship, and ministry (Gal. 6:2; Acts 2:46) • Contact prospects and absentee members on a regular basis (Ma . 10:6) • Make sharing my faith a regular part of my daily life (Ma . 28:19) • A end regularly scheduled Sunday School teacher mee ngs, as applicable (Heb. 10:25) • Par cipate in one or more Sunday School training events this year, as applicable (2 Tim. 2:15) • Personally support the overall ministry of my church through my prayers, nancial giving, and regular par cipa on in worship and fellowships (1 Thess. 5:17; Mal. 3:10; Heb. 10:25) • Lead my class members toward complete par cipa on in the ministries of my church (1 Cor. 4:16, 17) * As well, I recognize that to teach God’s Word at EBC, I must be a member of the faith family at EBC, have a ended the EBC New Members Class, and have already signed the EBC New Member’s Church Covenant. *Please Note & Hear Your Pastor’s Heart: This is not an a empt to be legalis c in any way! What this is, is an a empt to make the standards, that should already be higher than the world’s standards, upfront and clear, and known of what should be expected as a teacher at EBC. It is an a empt for accountability. We understand that no one is perfect, except Christ! We are not asking for perfec on, but your best in these areas! ti And, lastly, sign the EBC New Member Covenants that form a basis and grounding for this covenant! ti • fi A end a New Members 101 Class. tt • tt Agree with and believe in the primary doctrines that we preach and teach. tt • ti Are born again. ti • ti ti ft ti ti tt ti tt ti ti ti tt tt tt When we do new members 101, we are telling people, they cannot be a member of our faith family un l they: As well, we understand that if we were to have a job in any area of the secular world, they would be held to that company’s standards. Why should the standards, expecta ons, and seriousness of the commitment to a job in the world, be higher than that of God’s Kingdom? • If you want to be a Chris an, you must be born again. • If you want to be a member of a local church, you must meet and agree with their standards. • If you want to be a Deacon at that Church, you must meet the Biblical standards and quali ca ons, above and beyond that of just being a Chris an and a Church member. • If you want to be a Pastor at that Church, you must meet, even, higher standards and quali ca ons. • The same is of our teacher’s/lay leaders. There is a higher expecta on of leadership the higher you go! • Chris an ! Church Member ! Serve ! Teach ! Deacon (Servant Leaders) ! Pastor (Local Church Elders/ Leaders)! Christ Ge ng to serve our Lord and Savior within the Body is not a chore or a burden but an honor and privilege! Not just everyone or anybody can have the privileged posi on of teaching God’s Word to the body. With that understood and God’s help, I will seek to do my best in ful lling this covenant. ti fi ti ti ti ti ti ti fi fi ti tti Signed: ________________________________ Dated: __________
