Need for DC
• The Growing gap:
– The gap between what students do with their phone
and what students need to do is increasing.
• Digital Footprints – Positive:
– Given that many colleges and employers judge
prospective students and employees based on their
social media profiles, we need to teach students to
create online personas that project more positive
constructions of self. Many students are shockingly
unaware that adults are able to access their profiles.

• Real Vs. Virtual:
– Use of technology cannot be denied in education.
Thus, to make students aware between real identity
and virtual identity is very important.
• Multi tasking student culture:
– If we desire for students to thrive the digital world,
they must be taught and practice mindfulness and
sustained attention, in addition to understanding the
consequences of constantly checking their phones and
jumping from window to window on the computer.

• Cyber bullying:
– The very fact of digital crime cannot be denied. Anyone
can become victim of cyber bullying. In such case one
needs to learn about what to share, post and what not to.
• Content Curation Is Information Literacy
– There are thousands of worthwhile sources out there; how
to seek out, select, and streamline information sources is
often ignored in schools.
– In English class, students should be able to cite and
compile websites or blogs dedicated to literature or
writing. In social studies, students should be able to create
a Twitter list and follow updated current events from
reliable sources.

Future of DC
• Learning the previous slides we can easily
make it out how important is to teach DC to
students and society at large.
• One cannot merely give excuse that DC was
taught to you in school and we did not learn it
anyway.
• Cyber law does not spare Digital Illiteracy.
• Thus learning DC is not only unavoidable but
mandatory.

Future of DC
• There was a subject of Moral Science being
taught in earlier classes in a school.
• You can compare the need of DC with the need of
Moral Science for young minds.
• Its only with responsible use of science we can
render its rewards to the society at large.
• The same applies to DC. We must teach the
millennial the right use of technology before we
handover the platform to them.
• In this context, the future of DC is the never
ending need for developing young minds.
