Modules marked with a # must be passed at 40% or above in order to progress to the next level of study. 10. Modules marked with a ~ must be passed at 40% or above for the award of an honours degree. A mark of 30-39% cannot be compensated. 11. Modules marked with a * are not available in 2023-24. Placement Year 12. Students admitted to BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) are able to apply to transfer to the BA Education Studies – Sociology (with Placement Year) programme (X3L3). Students taking the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Placement Year) (X3L3) will undertake an approved placement or placements in a UK or overseas 3rganization consisting of at least 40 weeks of professional-level work experience. Following the placement year, students will be required to successfully complete a placement assessment as agreed by the Department, to determine whether the programme learning outcomes have been met. Assessment does not contribute to the marks used to determine the award of the degree but successful completion is required to qualify for the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Placement Year) (X3L3). If a student fails, they will transfer to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) programme. 13. Candidates wishing to transfer to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Placement Year) (X3L3) must: a. have successfully completed Level 1 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) and progressed to Level 2 of the Honours programme; and b. during the first term of Level 2 study, apply to the Board of Studies in the School of Education to be admitted to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Placement) (X3L3) and have their application approved by the Chair of the Board of Studies; and c. secure a placement / year abroad opportunity or opportunities comprising at least 40 weeks of professional-level work experience, agreed with the Faculty Placement Manager and approved by the School of Education academic placement lead; and d. successfully complete Level 2 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) so as to be eligible to progress to Level 3 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33). 14. Students whom the Board of Examiners for the School of Education deem to have fulfilled the programme learning outcomes and who successfully pass the placement assessment will continue to Level 3 of the BA Education Studies – Sociology (with Placement Year) (X3L3). Students who fail will not be permitted to continue on the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Placement Year) (X3L3) programme, but must instead proceed to the final year of the BA Education Studies – Sociology programme (XL33). Additional Year Abroad 15. Students admitted to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) are able to apply to transfer to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Year Abroad) programme (X2L3). Students undertaking the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Year Abroad) programme (X2L3) will undertake an approved study placement in an overseas university taking a course of study chosen in consultation with the programme director and the host institution. During the year abroad students will be assessed at module level by the host University. Assessment does not contribute to the marks used to determine the award of the degree but successful completion is required to qualify for the BA Education Studies – Sociology (with Year Abroad). 16. Candidates wishing to transfer to the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Year Abroad) (X2L3) must: Page 3 of 4 a. have successfully completed Level 1 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) and progressed to Level 2 of the honours programme, and; b. during the first term of Level 2 study, apply to the Board of Studies in the School of Education to be admitted to the BA Education Studies – Sociology (with Year Abroad) (X2L3) and have their application approved by the Chair of the Board of Studies in the School of Education, and; c. successfully complete Level 2 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) so as to be eligible to progress to Level 3 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (XL33) Honours programme. 17. Students who the Board of Examiners for the School of Education deem to have made satisfactory progress on the year abroad will continue to Level 3 of the BA Education Studies - Sociology (with Year Abroad) (X2L3). Students who have not made satisfactory progress on the year abroad will not be permitted to continue on the BA Education Studies – Sociology (with Year Abroad) (X2L3) programme, but must instead proceed to Level 3 of the BA Education Studies – Sociology (XL33) programme.
