Role Identification/Scope of Practice Assignment NURS 110 Introduction to Professional Nursing Student Name: Bucky Barnes Date: 11/12/2023 Role Identification Assignment The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity to apply knowledge of the legal scope of practice of the Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN), and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP/CNA). Instructions 1. Each student will complete and submit this template; include references in APA format. 2. Once completed, your group will prepare a 5-minute poster presentation creating a scenario through which the roles of RN, LVN/LPN, and UAP/CNA displayed on the poster template. 3. Clear differentiation of roles and legal scope of practice should be apparent. 4. The poster should include examples of appropriate delegation. 5. Every person in the group will submit the poster for the group for grading consideration for each group member. List and describe the five rights of delegation. Delegation Right 1 2 3 4 5 RIGHT TASK Description A task that can be given to someone in the nursing team for a client. This has to be within hospitals policies and procedures. The question to ask is, can this person perform the task with competence or are they licensed to do so (Christman & Ernstmeyer, 2023). RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES To complete the circumstances there are appropriate equipment and resources (B, 2023). Also have proper supervision when required and to get more help when necessary (B, 2023). RIGHT PERSON Choosing the correct person to delegate who has sufficient knowledge and experience, also make sure to ask if they have prior experience with the task (B, 2023). RIGHT DIRECTION/COMMUNICATION RIGHT SUPERVISION The person who delegates has to sufficiently give directions and communications to the delegated person to ensure they have sufficient understand on the specific task for the specific client (B, 2023). Also ensure to let delegated individual the deadline of the specific task as well. Ensure the appropriate supervision is available in any delegation (B, 2023). Make sure to report back to the supervisor of the completion of task or if issues arise due to the supervisor also being held accountable to the outcome of patients (B, 2023). Use the following table to identify specific duties each role is allowed to perform, i.e., RN, LPN/LVN, and UPA/CNA * To demonstrate you understand differences between each scope of practice, do not duplicate the same tasks/duties in more than one column even if multiple roles can perform them. * List a good representation of differences to validate your knowledge of the three different role’s scope of practice (RN, LPN/LVN, and CNA/UAP).
