Wet gas flow measurement
Wet gas flow
Wet gas flow measurement plays an important role in the development of gas
condensate fields on a world-wide basis. Solartron ISA has been actively involved in the development of flow meters for
allocation and reservoir management applications since the early 1990s and is now
established as a leading supplier.
Dualstream I
In a cost conscious world
Solartron ISA's wet gas metering
technology plays an active part in
changing the way gas condensate
fields are developed.
Our technology is used to:
· Allocate production
· Improve reservoir monitoring
· Optimise production
This enables operators to:
· Reduce OPEX/CAPEX costs
· Develop marginal fields
This technology can be deployed
onshore, offshore and deep water
subsea.
Solartron ISA has led the
development of venturi in wet gas
applications. If information is
available on the liquid fraction
from well testing, correction
algorithms can be used to correct
the wet gas flow measurement and
generate 'true' gas and liquid mass
flow rates for use in high accuracy
allocation or reservoir production.
4
Solartron ISA is the primary
manufacturer involved in supplying
systems to the major oil & gas
companies. Our skilled engineers work
hand in hand with the operators to
solve problems and gain acceptance of
this principle.
As a result our Dualstream I package is
widely accepted as the bench mark for
these applications.
We have a large installed base
of meters including high accuracy
allocation meters subsea.
Measurement solutions have been
supplied to:
BP, Shell, Conoco, Phillips, TotalFina
Elf, Saudi Aramco, BG International
and Mobil
3
Dualstream II
Our engineers have a wealth of experience
in providing solutions to difficult flow
measurement applications including subsea
measurement down to depths of 3000m.
It is therefore, no longer necessary to rely
on 'one shot' correction from well test data
using expensive test separators or tracer
dilution techniques.
Against a background of increasing gas
production and a drive from the operators to
remove the requirement for test separators
or tracer dilution techniques, Solartron ISA
has developed a new 'intelligent' wet gas
meter, the Dualstream II
Although equally applicable to onshore and
offshore platform locations the Dualstream
II with its simple, robust and reliable
design is particularly suitable for marginal
field development in new deep water
applications where well testing is neither
feasible or practical.
For the first time a wet gas meter can in,
real time, generate:· Online gas flow rate
· Online liquid flow rate
Developed in conjunction with Advantica
Technologies (formerly BG Technology)
the Dualstream II uses a patented 2nd DP
principle to calculate the stream gas mass
fraction (GMF) and then generate on-line
true gas and liquid flow rates.
Seastream
Our subsea marinisation experience is
extensively used to develop flow meters for a
number of other important areas of reservoir
management:
· Gas lift
· Water injection
· Methanol/Glycol injection
With several hundreds of meters now in
service reservoir engineers no longer need to
accept crude and inaccurate flow rate data.
Accuracy & stability has been further
enhanced with the launch of our SST 1500
subsea differential pressure transmitter.

Primary flow measurement devices
Primary flow
measurement
Primary differential pressure producing devices are the most
common types of flow meters used in the oil, gas and
petrochemical industries.
All DP devices are based on the measurement of pressure
differential across a restriction in the pipeline, this differential
can then be utilised to calculate the actual fluid rate of flow.
1 2 3 4
Orifice plates are used
on numerous primary flow
applications throughout the
oil & gas industry.
They offer a simple but
effective solution to DP
based flow measurement
requirements on all single
phase flow fluids.
Their ease of installation in
conjunction with their low
cost continues to attract
growing utilisation as a
solution to flow
measurement.
The wide range of available
Solartron ISA orifice plates
covering sizes, materials
and designs offers a very
effective flow measurement
option.
Orifice flanges and orifice
carriers are the most
common and economical
methods for accurately
utilizing orifice plates in
pipelines.
The position and quality of
orifice tappings affect the
accuracy achieved on each
installation. Solartron ISA
offers a wide range of
orifice carriers and flange
assemblies in numerous
materials and pressure
classes.
Other options such as single
chamber fittings and dual
chamber fittings are
available in a variety of sizes
and materials to cater for
fiscal and allocation
metering requirements.
Meter runs offer a more
accurate option than a
standard orifice assembly
due to the required upstream
and downstream lengths of
straight pipe as indicated
in the ISO 5167 DP flow
standard. This requirement
allows the required accuracy
to be achieved on most
applications.
Meter runs are available
in a wide range of sizes,
pressure classes and
material specifications in
conjunction with fiscal and
allocation accuracy levels.
Classical venturi tubes have a
lower permanent pressure loss
compared with orifice plates.
The venturi is an original
‘fit & forget’ device, as its
classical profile reduces the
effects of erosion and general
wear. Solartron ISA venturi
are available in a wide range
of sizes, pressure class and
material specifications.
Operating characteristics:
Ruggedness
Long accurate service life
Low cost of ownership
Low pressure loss

Solartron ISA has a wealth of experience in the design and
manufacture of DP devices. This is widely recognised and
utilised by the oil, gas and petrochemical industries worldwide. Solartron ISA offers each group of products in a variety
of materials and has the expertise to provide a cost effective
solution to your specifications.

Flow Nozzles are utilized on
erosive applications such as
high pressure high velocity
steam, where a sharp edge of
an orifice would deteriorate,
leading to inaccuracies.
Solartron ISA designs cover
ISO 5167 and ASME
specifications.
Venturi nozzles are also
available offering the same
inlet profile as an ISA 1932
nozzle but with the addition
of a divergent outlet cone to
reduce the overall pressure
loss.
Dall tubes offer a higher
pressure recovery than a
venturi, permanent
pressure loss is typically
2.5% to 10% of the
measured DP.
They are manufactured as
a conventional flanged unit
or as an insert, to suit the
client’s requirements in a
wide range of sizes and
material options.
Operating characteristics:
High DP for a very low
pressure loss
KB Series averaging pitot
tubes offer a low pressure
drop and cost effective
installation.
Most are supplied as an
insertion device with an
option for an under pressure
insert/retract mechanism.
Materials include stainless
steel and a range of alloys.
The patented sensor design
gives accurate, long term
performance

The Wedge meter is most
suitable for very viscous fluids
with low Reynolds numbers or
liquids with entrained solids.
They can be supplied in a
variety of materials, pressure
class options and end
connection arrangements.
Solartron ISA designs allow
arrangements such as
suitability with chemically
sealed transmitters.

effective & reliable package, fulfilling all the requirements of
fiscal metering world-wide, now and for the future.
The modern flow computer is critical to the accuracy,
reliability and security of fiscal, custody transfer and allocation
flow measurement of liquid and gas products. As well as
being the engine room of the metering skid, the flow computer
also provides the required reports and data to the supervisory
system.
The ability to interface with and acquire data from an
ever increasing variety of smart and intelligent instruments
including flow meters, density, temperature and viscosity
sensors, pressure transmitters, gas chromats, provers and
valves is essential.
Flow computers provide a secure and auditable, real time
