CAM 18 : WRITING TASK 2 TEST 1 The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement. Agree: - Science can explain a lot of things which people do not know -> can avoid some bad + broaden their horizons - Can creat/ invent things to help people : medicine, vaccine -> perilous diseases which caused the death of hundreds of people. Facilities, constructions, robots, amenities , health care ,… -> improve - Counter : + nowadays, the outbreak of science -> robots – scared to dominate/ control human -> scams -> people will be unemployed -> widen the gap between rich and poor. -> counter: Human create the modern things, know how to stop -> under their control + The main aim to make profits -> competitive ->do not care about humans lives -> environmental problem ( medicine ,..) -> but lack of them, peple cannot leave in peace -> many countries have solution ( renewable energy) It is undenitable that enhancing quality of human lives is the most crucial task of science. In my opinion, I completely agree with this statement. On the one hand, I understand why some people are still concerned about the goal of science. Opposers argue that the primary aim of scientific endeavors of companies is how to make more profits than the rivals and they do not care about people’s lives. Hence, they release a large number of toxins into the air while producing medicine for instance, as a result, it can lead to environmental problems such as water pollution or air pollution. However, we have to admit that nowadays the government in general or the companies have many effective ways to avoid or deal with problems. For example, Singapore is a developed country, they applied many solutions such as having a sewerage system, and all the wastewater must be discharged into this to be specified standard before being discharged into a sewer. ( viết kiểu này có phải lạc đề không nhỉ cô, cháu viết xong mới thấy vô lí, mà lười xóa, cô kiểm tra hộ cháu luôn , hehe ) ( Thân bài khác) ( đang viết mượt phải làm lại, cụt hứng ngang, haizz yah ) First of all, science can explain a lot of facts that humans have not known before. For example, science can tell us about natural phenomena such as which can cause the rain, or why we can see rainbows. As a result, we can absolutely broaden our horizons and then become more scholarly. Moreover, due to the clarification of these natural phenomena, scientists can utilize their knowledge to enhance people’s lives. For instance, in the desert areas, they will research to be able to grow fruit and vegetables on these barren soil sectors or how to make clean water. Hence, citizens living in poor soil can have green vegetables to eat and drink fresh water, therefore they can avoid suffering from some perilous diseases such as diarrhea and malnutrition. In addition, many things can be invented by scientific advancements which can directly bring plenty of benefits to our lives. The discoveries in medicine and vaccines are truly our life-saving treatments. For example, before medical items were invented, flu was considered a dangerous disease that caused the death of millions of people from all over the world, but now we can live side by side with it and many lives are saved, leading to the reduction in mortality rate. Furthermore, technology is introduced and becomes an important part of every aspect of life. For instance, on the roads, we have artificial guides who are controlled by a system to help people avoid some unexpected accidents, or we can see a number of modern vehicles like unmanned cars, so people do not need to take a large amount of time on driving and then they can do their personal hygiene on their commute, or they manufacture many types of robots which can help people with household chores or anything. Therefore, the quality of life will be boosted and people will be more comfortable and enjoyable. In conclusion, the benefits of science can be seen clearly in people’s lives nowadays. It is truly the greatest thing in the world. TEST 2 Some university students want to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Others believe it is more important to give all their time and attention to studying for a qualification. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Agree 1: - Counter (p1) + Spend more time -> tired -> counter : Learn what they like -> it is their choices -> try their best-> more effective -> happy and comfortable -> reduce stress + learn other subjects like arts -> do not relate to their jobs -> waste time -> - Have more skills -> have more chances to have many types of jobs + Do not have in-depth knowledge -> difficult to be an expertise in their field -> when decide to learn others, they may think thoroughly and have to sure that they can still learn their main course sufficiently and do the tasks at their field - P2: +besides a plenty of tasks of their main subjects -> can learn other -> improve their time management skill -> help their a lot on their jobs in the future like deadlines + broaden their knowledge -> know more than just their field + compulsory subjects -> feel being forced -> bored frustrated People have different views about learning other subjects at the same time as their main subjects at schools or universities. While some people think they should only focus on their compulsory subjects to get a qualification. In my opinion, I approve of learning extra subjects. On the one hand, I understand why some argue that concentrating on getting a certificate is the most important. Some opposers argue that when just trying their best in their major subjects, students can have in-depth knowledge in their majors and then they can become experts in their field and have a high chance to have a high position in their future jobs. Therefore, with those who decide to learn more subjects, they cannot get the benefits. However, I believe when choosing to learn more subjects, students have to think thoroughly and consider problems which they may have to deal with and they might have solutions to balance between their major and their favorite. For example, they will try to completely focus on the lessons in class and do all their homework, and then they still can spend at least two or three hours per day on their other subjects. By knowing how to divide time properly, they will train themselves in time management skills which is extremely important for their future jobs. On the other hand, I strongly agree that students should learn some additional subjects. Firstly, just learning compulsory subjects, people feel forced to study these things, therefore, they will be bored, frustrated, or sometimes irritated when trying to cram and swallow these boring textbooks. As a result, they will have more chance to suffer from stress and more dangerous mental illnesses, and then the mortality rate of suicide will be raised significantly. Conversely, researching about optional subjects, they can immerse themselves into what they really like, so they will be happier and more comfortable, leading to a healthy mentality. Secondly, with versatile education, they will be equipped with transferable skills, enabling them to adapt to a rapidly changing job market. In conclusion, students should expand their knowledge by learning more optional subjects than just trying to learn boring things of compulsory subjects due to the various benefits they can bring to people.
