Free Lunch Have you ever gone to school so hungry but you didn’t have money to buy food? I think the school should provide food so that we are healthy, that we don’t have to miss classes due to starvation and so that students are not embarrassed or bullied because their parents are not able to provide a meal. School should provide food so that we are healthy. Food is important in each persons’ daily life. Lack of food impacts listening and focus in class. Imagine going to school with an empty stomach and not being able to keep up with the classwork because you are worried about food. Not being focused will definitely affect your grades and may cause the student to repeat. Schools should also provide free food because many students are not fed well at home and are more open to infections. Due to this, they are more exposed to get sickness because their immune system is weak. This will then lead to absences from school and the student may not be able to pass the term. Having free lunch at school would assist them with getting a meal which may help in keeping the student healthy. My final reason why I think schools should give free lunch is because students who are not privileged to have food at home or take a lunch that may be considered as a snack for someone more privileged and, students are likely to be bullied or made fun of. In a small community or village, majority of the residents can identify others who are poor and those who may not be able to properly cloth or feed their child. This is simply because other students will notice their lack of lunch and joke about it and embarrass the student. This can all be avoided if a free lunch is provided and everyone is offered the same meal option. In conclusion I think schools should give free lunch. A school’s main role is to educate students which most do admirably. However there are social issues that affect students at home which then impacts their ability to perform well in school. Having a free lunch program would definitely ensure that kids are well fed so they are focused, that they are healthy so they will not miss classes due to hospitalization from starvation and will encourage each student to respect the others regardless of being more/less privileged with their lunch options. It would also show that the school cares for each and every student and will contribute to a more wholesome educational experience.
