B. Performance Standards
1. Learners should be able to demonstrate conceptual understanding of properties/ characteristics of light,
heat and sound.
C. Learning Competency/ies:

TEACHERS’ ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
Before we start, let us first feel the presence of the Lord. Can
anyone lead the prayer?
LEARNERS’ ACTIIVITY
(A student will raise their hand and lead
the class in prayer.)
Okay, thank you for that.
Good morning Class!
Good morning teacher!
How do you all feel today?
We feel good.
Wow, very good. So now I need your help in maintaining the
order in the classroom. Can you please arrange your chairs
and sit properly?
(The students will arrange their chairs
and sit properly.)
Very good, thank you for your cooperation. I am now going
to check your attendance, say present as I call your name.
(The teacher will check the attendance)
B. MOTIVATION
ENGAGE
( 10 mins)
Do you feel excited for our new lesson today?
Yes teacher!
Great! We are going to start our lesson with a song. So I will
let you listen to the song and after that we are going to sing
together. Are you ready?
Yes we are!
(The teacher will play the video)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=94zy9gF40pE&feature=shared
LYRICS:
Pushes and pulls change how things move
Forces can go in different directions
Pushes and pulls can be strong or weak
Pushes and pulls can change how things move
Forces can go in different directions
Pushes and pulls can be strong or weak
So when you push with force
Things move away
They’ll move back when you pull
2X
Okay so let us now sing the song, ready…go!
(The students will sing the song)
Did you enjoy the song?
Yes we do.
Based on the song, what do you think will be our topic for
today?
Forces! Push and pull
Yes, Forces that’s correct.
Our topic for today will the Effects of Force on Objects.
So now we are going to proceed with a group activity. Are
you all ready?
Yes we are!
In this activity, you will be divided into two groups and each
group will have different activities to do and answer.
Group 1 will have an activity named: Look what you made
me do.
Problem: What is the effect of force on the movement on an
object?
What you need: ball, table or any flat surface.
What to do: demonstrate the following situations using the
rubber ball on a table.
A. From at rest, make the object move
B. Make the moving object move faster
C. Make the moving object move slower
D. Make the moving object change its direction
E. Make it stop
EXPLORE
( 10 mins)
Guide Questions:
1. What did you apply on the object in all situations?
2. Without force, will the object at rest move?
3. Without force, will the object in motion stop?
4. Without force will the moving object move faster?slowe?
5. What did you do to make the object move faster?slower?
6. How does force affect the motion or movement of the
object?
Group 2 will have an activity called: Changes in size and
shape
1. Force
2. No
3. No
4. No
5. We pushed the ball with strength to
make it faster and pushed it gently to
make it slower.
6. It affects the motion as it can make an
object at rest mover. It can also affect
the movement by changing its direction
of making it slower or faster.
Directions: Explain the changes that will happen to the size
or shape of the objects if force will be applied. Write your
answers on a manila paper in a paragraph form neatly and
clearly.
1. Sharpening a pencil
2. Dropping a flower vase
3. Pounding a syrofoam cup
4. Cutting a piece of cardboard
5. A bar soap dropped on the floor
1. The size of the pencil may decrease
because of the sharpener and the shape
changes from blunt end to a pointed one.
2. It can make the flower vase break and
shatter into smaller pieces and its
original shape would be destroyed.
3. The size of the cup will be smaller and
be compressed and flat depending on
how the force is applied.
4. The size gets smaller as it is cut into
pieces and the shape varies on how it is
cut.
5. The shape of the soap might slightly
change at point of impact, making it flat
or dented.
What is force?
A push or pull. Anything that causes an
object to change its size, direction or
shape of an object.
EXPLAIN
( 20 mins)
How does force cause changes in direction? shape? and size?
Answers may vary.
When do you apply force?
In doing some activities.
Are these forces important to us?
Answers may vary.
How? In what instance were you able to help others by using
your force?
Answers may vary.
ELABORATE
( 10 mins)
For your next activity scan the classroom to find things that
need either a push or a pull to make them move in different
directions Discuss where pushes and pulls changes the shape
of different objects in everyday life and enlist them. Find two
materials in which objects regain their original shape after
the removal of applied force. Find two materials in which
objects change their shape on applying force but don't regain
their original shape on removal of applied force. Draw their
pictures.
Again what is force?
Push or pull, or any influence that causes
an object to undergo a change in shape,
direction or size,
What is the effect of force when it is applied to an object?
It will change its shape or direction.
