PERSONAL STATEMENT From a young age, I've been drawn to the nursing profession by its profound capacity for compassion and its ability to make a tangible difference in people's lives during their most vulnerable moments. Witnessing the care and empathy provided by nurses to my family members during times of illness inspired me to pursue a career where I could similarly offer support and comfort to others. Over the next 5-10 years, I imagine myself contributing to the nursing profession by continuously advocating for patient-centered care, following advancements in medical technology, and actively participating in community health initiatives to address healthcare disparities. My values resonate strongly with the mission of Creighton University, particularly its commitment to service, leadership, and the concern and tradition of care for the whole person. I believe in the importance of holistic care that considers not only the physical health of patients but also their emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. In a previous role, I encountered an ethical dilemma when faced with conflicting directives from superiors regarding patient care protocols. Despite feeling uncomfortable, I advocated for the best interests of the patient by engaging in open dialogue with my team and agreeing on the most ethical course of action. Looking back, I would strive to declare my concerns more assertively and proactively seek guidance from ethics committees or higher authorities to ensure adherence to ethical standards. To succeed in Creighton University's Accelerated BSN program, I plan to implement effective time management strategies, prioritize tasks, and maintain open communication with instructors and peers. Additionally, I intend to utilize support services offered by the university and cultivate a strong support network to navigate the rigorous demands of the program successfully. Regarding discrepancies on my transcripts, I previously encountered challenges due to personal circumstances that temporarily impacted my academic performance. However, I have since addressed these challenges by implementing proactive measures, such as seeking counseling support and developing healthier coping mechanisms, to promote my academic success in this program.
