Page 1 of 2 General guideline statement The abstract is expected to summarize the major aspects of the entire research work in a prescribed sequence that indicated above. It is usually has a length of one page of around 300 words. The abstract comes in different types; critical, descriptive, informative, and highlight abstracts. Each has its own purpose. The most used one is the informative type which is within most of us interested. In such type, the researcher presents and explains all the main arguments and the important results and evidence in the paper. This include the purpose, methods, scope, results, conclusions of the research, and the recommendations of the author(s). Here, one should write his/her abstract using concise, but complete sentences. Get to the point quickly and always use the past tense. The abstract should be written last since it summarizes the contents of the entire work. Think of the abstract as describing the most information using the fewest necessary words in complete sentences.
