Survey Complete
Empowerment is a psychological concept represented by feelings of
self-determination, meaning, competence, and impact. The
empowerment concept applies to people in a variety of situations, not
just the workplace. The self-assessment you are about to complete is
specifically adapted to your position as a student at this college or
university.
Source: Adapted from G. M. Spreitzer, “Psychological empowerment
in the workplace: Dimensions, measurement, and validation,”
Academy of Management Journal, 38 (1995), pp. 1442-1465.
Read each statement in the survey and select the rating that reflects
the extent to which you agree or disagree with the scenario in the
statement. There are no right or wrong answers, but you need to
complete each item honestly to get the best estimate of your level of
empowerment. After completing the self-assessment, read the
feedback that explains how to understand your score and interpret
your results.
You must respond to all statements in order to receive full credit for
this self-assessment activity.

High empowerment
Understanding Your Score on the Student
Empowerment Scale
Range
60 to
84
The student empowerment scale estimates your
personal feelings of empowerment as a student at the
school where you are enrolled. Specifically, this scale
considers the feelings of self-determination, meaning,
competence, and impact you have as a student.
Scores on this scale range from 12 to 84. A higher
score indicates a higher level of empowerment as a
student.
How does your score compare with others? Ideally,
you would compare your score with the collective
results of other students in your class, but this might
not be possible.
