Transitions • How to recognize the questions asking about transitions…. • The four answer choices have transition words Transitions • There are many transition words / expressions in the English language, but the most important ones can be classified broadly into three groups: continuers, contradictors, and cause & effect (according to Erica’s grammar book). • Let’s batch the too general “continuers’ ” group in six specific sets. Transitions • Set 1- Emphasis Indeed, Obviously , In fact, Particularly , in particular, Especially, Undoubtedly, Clearly, importantly.. etc. Tip: S1-------------- Emphasis ---------------S2 X In fact X + the same exact idea but with more elaborations/details Transitions • Set 2- Addition In addition , additionally, Besides Furthermore , Moreover, Also Not only …..but also ….
