Preliminaries
a. Greetings
Good afternoon class! How
is your day so far?
That’s good to hear! So
can I expect a full blast of
energy and active
participation from you?
b. Prayer
Alright. Before we begin,
let’s ask the guidance of
our mighty Savior. Prayer
leader, please come
forward and lead the class
in prayer.
I would like to request
everyone to arrange your
chairs properly and make
sure there is no trash
around you.
c. Checking of
attendance
Let me check your
attendance first. Is
everyone present today?
Good afternoon Ma’am!
We are fine.
Of course Ma’am!
(Christine will lead the
prayer.)
(Students will arrange their
chairs and will pick up the
trash.)
Yes, Ma’am!
d. Review of the
previous lesson
That’s good to hear. Now I
think we are all set, but
before we proceed with our
lesson today, let’s have a
short review of the
previous lesson. Can you
still recall our previous
topic? Who wants to
answer? Yes, Dave.
Ma’am we talked about the
history of basketball and its
equipment and facilities.
Very good, Dave! Now, do
you want to play a game?
Yes, Ma’am!
Alright! This game is called
true or false. I have three
statements about our
previous lesson and you
have to identify if the
statement is true or false. If
your answer is true, you
have to form an “O” above
your head like this (teacher
will demonstrate) On the
other hand, if your answer
is false, you have to form
an “X” above your head as
well like this (teacher will
demonstrate) after my
signal. Clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
First, basketball was
invented by Dr. James
Naismith in 1891. Is it true
or false?
(Students will answer)
Very good. The answer is
true. Dr. James Naismith is
a PE teacher in YMCA in
Springfield, Massachusetts
who invented basketball.
Second statement, the
height of the basketball
ring is 10ft high. Is it true or
false?
(Students will answer)
Awesome! The answer is
true. It stands 10ft high
above the ground.
Let’s proceed to the last
statement, the picture
shown on this slide is the
ball used in basketball. Is it
true or false?
The answer is false. The
ball shown is a volleyball.
Can someone describe the
color of a basketball? Yes,
(Students will answer)
Warren.
Correct. Can you point out
the correct basketball?
Ma’am it is an orange
color.
Ma’am it’s the ball in the
middle.
Very good! It seems to me
that you are now familiar
with the history and
equipment and facilities
used in basketball. We are
now going to talk about the
skills in basketball.
e. Motivation
I have two pictures here.
Can someone guess what
skill is being shown in the
picture? Yes, Lester.
Ma’am, I think it's dribbling.
Correct. The first basic skill
needed in basketball is
called dribbling. How about
the next one? Yes, Julia?
Ma’am, it’s passing.
Correct. And the third basic
skill in basketball is called?
Yes, Ryan.
It’s shooting, Ma’am.
Awesome! So these are
the three basic skills in
basketball. But for today,
we are going to focus on
learning the first basic skill,
which is dribbling.
When dribbling, a player
uses one hand to
continuously bounce the
ball on the court.
Also, it allows you to
advance the ball up the
court toward the hoop to
score a point.
Now, we will proceed to the
gym to learn how to dribble
a ball. Form a line in
alphabetical order.
(teacher will lead the
students going to the gym)
II. Lesson proper
a. Warm-up exercise
Kindly form four lines with
8 members in each line, in
alphabetical order.
Before proceeding with our
activity, let’s have a
warm-up first to set our
bodies for the drill, okay?
(students will fall in line)
For now, I will lead the
warm-up exercise, but for
the following meetings, I
will assign someone to
lead the warm-up, okay?
Yes, Ma’am.
(teacher will lead the warm
up exercises)
a. Activity/Drill
As I mentioned a while
ago, in dribbling, we use
one hand to continuously
bounce the ball around the
court. So how is it done?
You should use your
dominant hand and bounce
the ball to a comfortable
height where you can
control it. Like this (teacher
will demonstrate).
Now, I would like everyone
to try dribbling the ball
while walking. Starting
from your line, you have to
dribble the ball going
around the cone and back
to the line. (teacher will
demonstrate). It is easy
right? Okay. Let’s have line
1 and line 2 to try first.
While line 3 and 4 move to
the side and take your
seats for now.
Very good lines 1 and 2.
Let’s have lines 3 and 4
now to try dribbling.
(Students from line 1 and 2
will do the drill)
(Students from line 3 and 4
will do the drill)
Awesome lines 3 and 4.
b. Assessment
Everyone did well on
dribbling the ball and I
think you’re up for a game.
Are you?
Let’s have a game. I will be
dividing you into two
groups, so that will be line
1 and 2 for group 1, and
line 3 and 4 for group 2.
Same thing as we did a
while ago. You have to
dribble the ball around the
cone, going back to the
line. Then, you have to tap
the next player before
he/she begins. This time,
the first group to finish all
Yes, Ma’am!
members to dribble will win
the game. Is that clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
First player will start after
my go signal, are you
ready?
Yes!
1, 2, 3 Go!
(Students play the game)
And we have a winner,
group 1 congratulations!
Nice game group 2. You all
did very well!
Now we are going back to
the classroom. Please line
up! (Teacher will lead the
students back to the
classroom)
c. Generalization
Now, I want to know how
you find our lessons and
activities today. What did
you learn today? Who
wants to answer? Yes,
Nicole.
Good to hear. How do you
find dribbling? Is it difficult
or easy? Yes, Jess.
(Students will return to the
classroom)
Ma’am, I learned how to
dribble the ball.
For me Ma’am, it’s easy.
Nice. I’m pretty sure that
it’s not the same case for
everyone but we can
practice and improve our
dribbling skills as we learn
more about basketball.
How about our game? Did
you enjoy it? Why? Yes,
Samantha.
That’s good to hear. And I
would like to acknowledge
everyone’s participation
and sportsmanship during
the game. For me, you all
did well! Give yourselves a
round of applause.
d. Assignment
Now, for your assignment, I
want you to paste a picture
of the following types of
basketball pass on your
notebook:
a. Bounce pass
b. Chest pass
c. Overhead pass
Yes Ma’am I enjoyed it
because I had the
opportunity to play with my
classmates.
(Students will clap)
Is that clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
Do you have questions?
None, Ma’am.
If none, that would be all
for today. Goodbye and
thank you class!
