Activity What do you see? What do you think why we’re able to reach people through emails or letters? Aside from the parts of the letter. What do you think is the one of the important element to make sure that it will be sent to the correct person? How does this exchanging of message work? The teacher will discuss the I.P address and the importance of I.P Address in computer. IP address – “Internet Protocol” is a strong unique characters that identifies each computer to communicate over a network. Each computer has each own unique IP address. An IP address is written in 32 bits but, it is hard for humans to read the bits which is basically 1 & 0. So, IP address are then divided into parts which we call octets. Analysis Each octet is separated by decimal point or period. This format is called a “dotted-decimal notation”. Example of 32 bit IP address: In the above illustration is the example of 32 bit IP address. If you mistyped even a single character or number, the whole address would be changed and you may not be able to communicate between computers. Example of dotted-decimal notation: In this example, we can see numbers that are separated by a point. In this case it is easy for us humans to identify the IP address. A dotted-decimal notation are divided into four parts or we can call it 4 octets. Octets have its role. The first three octets are the network and the fourth is the host Network – a server or a medium used to access remote services such as internet services. Host – is any computer device that is connected to any computer network. IP address may also vary in its Subnet Mask. Subnet Mask is the network portion of an IP Address. Basically it is structured like an IP address but it is more specific on routing the information in details. For Example, You made a purchase online and a Delivery address is required but you only indicated your City where you live, by the time it will be delivered, a mail man or courier services maybe confused because you are not specific to your delivery address. The job of Subnet Mask is to make sure that every small details are accurate. Now, let us moved to Binary Math. In this part, we get to know the difference between bit and byte, conversions of decimal to binary and vice versa. Bit – 0 or 1 Byte – Eight bits or octet Each Byte is from 0 – 255 octet Below is the Example of a Byte 10100000 – it is composed of 8 bits. Now we are going to convert it to octet. In converting octet, we used this conversion table. 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 2 0 1 0 Then we can distribute each bit to the table thus making it 128 1 64 0 32 1 16 0 8 0 4 0 Our next step is to add all the numbers that has a bit (1) and leave no value for a bit (0) 128 1 64 0 128 + 0 + 32 1 16 0 32 + 0 8 0 4 0 2 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 1 0 + 0 = 160 octet Now, what if the octet is given and not bits? Example : 143.24.136.12 Let us try to convert 143 into decimal. We will use the same table. 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 It is simple, just start from the number on left which is 128 and assigned a bit (1) if the value of the given octet is higher than of the table and add each individual value of conversion table until you reach the correct number. Write down zero(0) if the value is lesser than the numbers in conversion table. A conversion number that has a 0 need not to be included in counting. 128 1 64 0 32 0 16 0 8 1 4 1 Therefore: the conversion of 143 to decimal is 10001111 2 1 1 1 255 143 Abstraction What will happen if we mistyped just one bit of sets in a 32 bits binary number? What do you think why binary are converted into octets? Let us try! Convert the following binary into decimal Application 10010101 10000001 Convert the Octet into Binary 1. 1 2. 28 In a ¼ sheet of paper, answer the following. Test I 1. It is a strong of unique characters that identifies each computer to communicate over a Assessment network. Answer: IP Address 2. It is a format where it separate each individual octet in IP Address? Answer: Dotted-decimal notation. 3. What is the range of numbers in a single octet? Answer: 0-255 4. It is a network portion in IP Address? Answer: Subnet Mask 5. In a given IP Address, Identify the host 192.168.254.47 Answer: 47 Test II: 1. Convert the following IP address into binary(4 points) 168.54.26.8 Answer: 10101000 00110110 00011010 00001000 2. Convert binary to octet/decimal. Answer: 132 Assignment REMARKS REFLECTIONS 10110101 Research the procedure on configuring IP address in Windows 7, 10 & 11. None Our lives have been impacted by technology in many different ways. It connects people and brings them together. One of the important instances of technology is the Internet. By staying in touch with those around us, technology has helped us build and even improve relationships. One of the important metrics in contemporary society is convenience, which technology contributes to. This crucial lesson needs to be imparted to students in order to foster the abilities that will enable them to keep up with real-world situations. A.
