Problem Statement Which food dye, purple, red, or white will change the color of the spider plant and make it grow faster? Hypothesis If I put purple food dye, then it will grow and change color faster then with red and white food dye Materials Three pots ⅓ of a cup of water Measuring cup About ten sheets of paper Markers, pencils, and stickers Ruler and measuring tape Camera and camera film Three spider plants Soil of PH level of 6.5 to 7.0 Food dye- purple, red, and white Procedures 1. Get your three spider plant and place it outside where the sun hits and where it is possible to water them 2. Get your three food dyes and put each color in three plastic cups 3. Then get three white roses and get the petals and mush them 4. Put the same amount of petal extract in the three different plastic cups with you three food dyes 5. When your done with that get a plastic spoon, knife or fork and make sure to mix in the food dye with your flowers very well 6. Then get a tiny spray bottle and unscroll the top of the spray bottle 7. Then pour in the liquid substance which is the food dye with white rose petals 8. After go back to your plant outside 9. Dig into the plant and try get down until the roots and spray about three to fours sprays in each plant 10. Then keep on doing that each day and make sure to take the pictures the day after you put the food dey in 11. Then you just keep on repeating that every day around 3:00 through 3:30 Variables Independent Variable Different food dyes purple, red, and white Dependent Variable The growth of the plant and the speed of changing colors Constant The amount of water and sunlight and food color each plant gets Data Day 1 Purple Spider No Growth Day 2 No Growth Day 3 ¼ of an inch Day 4 ⅓ of an inch Day 5 ⅓ of an inch Total Growth 11/12 of an inch Red Spider No Growth ¼ of an inch ⅓ of an inch ⅓ of an inch ½ of an inch 1 5/12 inches White Spider No growth No growth ¼ of an inch ⅓ of an inch ⅓ of an inch 11/12 of an inch Results After doing my experiment I finally finished. So my results are that the red food dye colored and made the plant grow faster. I think that the red food dye worked more on the plant because the color was stronger than the other colors and since they were kind of light and also that I saw that red light is responsible for making plants produce fruit. It's also essential to a plant's early life for seed germination, root growth. The weakest color was white because it was really light and didn't really color anything. My second weakest was the purple which I thought was going to work the best on my plant. These are my results for my science experiment. Application You may be confused about why and how my project will be used in real life. You can actually use this in real life. You feel like your plants don’t look happy or do not have vibrant colors or look dull. You can change the color of your plant and make sure to do a strong color instead of a light color. For example when you have friends over you can plant them at least five days before and the color of your plants can change. This is a good way to use my project in real life. Abstract My Science Fair Project is about if my project could work and if you guys can use it in real life. My question is which food dye purple, red, or white will change the color of the plant and make it grow faster. If I put purple food dye, then the plant will change color and grow faster than with red or white food dye. So basically what my project is going to be about is changing the color of the plant and at the same time making it grow a little faster without the color hurting the plant. How I am going to do that is by getting a spider plant (your choice of plant). Then getting any type of color that you would like red, purple, and white and make sure that the food coloring that you get is not dangerous. After get any flower like, white rose that is good for the growth of plants and mix any color with the flower and spray it every day and if you see that the plants look dry get the extra food dye that was in cup and put water and just pour it on the plant and try to pour it where the roots are . After a long time my results are that my hypothesis was wrong the red food dye won and that plant also grew faster I think the red plant won because the color was stronger. This is what my science fair project is about. Conclusion Finally at the end of my experiment. So it turns out that my hypothesis was wrong. The red food coloring was the one who colored the plant the most and that plant also grew the most. I think the red coloring plant basically helped the plant more because the color was a stronger color than the rest of the color also if maybe I had chosen other colors maybe it wouldn’t have been the most affecting one. Also maybe that I was actually putting the food coloring straight up in the roots and it might have gotten a better receiving of sunlight and water. I think by collecting up my data by the third day I kind of knew which one was growing faster changing color because obviously the red was kind of showing up more than other color. So this is my conclusion. I know it may not be much but I also have my results and if you are interested and read my science board from any topic you liked make sure to keep reading along. Acknowledgement Now it's time to actually give some credit to the people that really helped me. First person is my sister that helped find some interesting facts, and that helped me with my grow my plants.Second person is my mom which basically bought almost all my materials and helped me with my board and she really supported me and I just want to say thank you to them and to everyone who has helped me in class.
