Introduction School carnival is an event every school organizes at least once a year. It's a package of fun, entertainment with encouraging activities, delicious edibles and several programmes. Many organize this just for enjoyment but our school this year had planned this event with a motive in mind. Everywhere children’s festivals are organized but hardly any caters to the specially abled. Breaking that tradition, our school organized a carnival in honour of specially abled children on 14th November, a Saturday That events and its arrangement The carnival was held on the school field, located at the back of our school premises. Its preparation was started two weeks prior to the actual day. We had to contribute an amount to our class teachers. Some students who were interested in volunteering were selected for volunteers. While many came forward to help the teachers in the stalls, some wanted to help the invited children and I was one of them. More than 70 specially abled children, from across the city, between age group of 5 and 17 were invited with their parents to the carnival. Invitations were also sent to our parents for giving them presents. The carnival comprised various activities such as painting, terracotta pottery design etc. A big stall was set up for selling handmade crafts items and paintings made by the children. Cultural programmes were planned, keeping in mind safety of specially abled children. The carnival started with a welcome dance and a speech of the principal. In the centre, an orchestra was belting out the latest musical hit, which added gaiety and festivity to the occasion. Numerous colourful stalls adorned the school ground. There were food stalls selling out snacks, cakes, chocolates and game stalls too that each class had set up of their choice. The musical performance of the specially abled children was the center of attention. As time flew by, all boundaries began to crumble. teachers and students alike danced to the music of the orchestra. I also joined in the fun and merrymaking. It was exciting and amusing to practically learn team work and coordination. My involvement I was assigned as a helper for four children who had difficulty in walking and communicating. I assisted them in climbing up and down the stage. Never once did I leave their side. At the end of the event, when food packets were distributed among all kids, I aided them in taking their food properly. Next, I accompanied them to the various stalls and introduced each of them to my friends. For a moment it felt as if I'd grown up overnight. I was surprised at how well I handled the children. Having observed them so closely, I could sympathize with them. We are ones who are fully capable of performing the daily chores ourselves yet we are dependent on others and always seeking their help. That day, I was standing with children, for whom each day is a new challenge. Putting myself in their shoes, I realized how hard life must be for the specially abled. My participation and involvement in the carnival this year was an eye opening experience. It was not all fun, but rather a whirlwind of emotions, totally different from the past years. It boosted my morale and I imbibed certain values that I’m gonna treasure for a lifetime. My experience and feelings It was because of this carnival that I got the chance to mingle with these differently abled children and expand my social circle, inculcating social values. Through my duty, I understood the real meaning of responsibility. I did my work with full attention and sincerity till the end to make the event successful. Conclusion School carnival involves the participation of the students, teachers and staffs. This carnival, likewise wouldn't have been possible without our combined effort. The fest inculcates a lot of values in us, being a unique festival in the entire city that showcases children who are specially-abled. This kind of exposure boosts their confidence. I'll never forget the time I spent with those children that day.
