Literary analysis Answer the questions below using the information from the story. 1. Study the quotes below and interpret their metaphorical meanings. a. “Have faith, Oganda. That thing will not reach us” -Osinda (line 279) By ‘that thing’, Osinda referred to the sunset which symbolized the death of Organda and how they had to run away from the setting sun in order to survive. b. “It is gone! It is gone” Oganda wept, hiding her face in her hands. (line 282) In this context, Organda meant that she just ditched death by running away from the sinking sun which symbolized the loss of her life. c. “Whenever you want to see me, always look at the sunset. I will be there.” - Organda compared herself with sunset. In this context, what she meant was that the sunset symbolized the end to her life as she would soon be sacrificed to the monster. 2. What do think happened when the rain came at the end even though Oganda did not exactly die? After reading the story, I personally think that the rain came at the end was natural rather than superstition. The ritual wasn’t complete as Oganda did not die, yet the rain came otherwise. 3. Study the characters’ behaviour below: a. The way the chief Labong’O dealt with the social problem in the tribe. The way the chief Labong’o dealt with the social problem in the tribe was selfless. He did not think about his family nor himself, but the tribe as a whole. He did it for a greater good for everyone in the tribe b. The way the tribal people behave towards Oganda’s sacrifice. Tribal people couldn’t care less about Oganda. All they cared about was to sacrifice Organda for the rain. The way Oganda accepted her fate. Oganda was left with no choice, but to be defeated. She just accepted her fate that she would be sacrificed to the monster to get the rain. d. The way Osinda rescued Oganda. Osinda was brave. Even though he would put himself in a dangerous situation, he still went through and helped Oganda out.
