BACKGROUND: As learners you have been assigned to identify and discuss the factors affecting crop
productivity in your local area gardens, with a particular focus on pests’ management. Plant pests are
menacing as they can lead to household hunger and financial losses for farmers. Such pests need to be
identified and classified if they are to be managed most effectively. You are thus required to scan your
locality and discuss the various classes of plant pests.
THE ACTIVITY
You are required to investigate the pests affecting crops in the local area gardens.






You will describe the factors affecting crop productivity in the locality gardens
You will classify the pests that affect crops in the locality
You will discuss the effects of plant pests on productivity
You will collect samples of affected plant tissues
You will discuss the methods of controlling the pests identified
