ID5200: PRE COURSE ASSIGNMENT
ARYAMAAN SINGH (CE20B017)
Q1.
Questions on biomimicry that occur to me are:
1. Can a smart city be created from construction to transportation and communication
using only the concepts of biomimicry?
2. Can a focused program for beginners to research on biomimicry solutions help in
inventing new technologies and ultimately towards sustainable development of the
society?
3. If biomimicry based innovations are constantly happening around us, then why are
they not integrated into the society instantly?
4. How does nature create explosive sources of energy? (Eg. To replace car and aircraft
engines)
5. How do ants organise themselves and can that be mimicked into autonomous
vehicles to reduce accidents?
6. How do eagles’ and vultures’ wings not freeze while flying at high altitudes?
Q2.
The video talks about how whales contribute towards maintaining an ecological balance
both in water and in air. The fecal plumes help plant planktons to survive which in turn
absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere. This way the food availability for other fishes increases
and the ocean thrives.
Questions on biomimicry that occur to me are:
1. Can fertilisers be created based on fecal plumes of whales to achieve organic
farming?
2. Can the fecal plumes be used as an initiator in lakes, rivers and fisheries to sustain
the population of the fishes naturally hence providing a constant source of
maintaining sea food industry?
3. Is it possible to genetically modify the whale species to scale the the size of water
bodies and sustain the fish population there?
Q3.
The video gives me the following impression of the course:
PURPOSE
1. To inspire innovative thinking among students.
2. Contribute towards solving and achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals.
3. Introduce a structured process for finding the problem, researching the solution,
developing a product and applying it in reality.
4. Develop an entrepreneurial mindset among the students so that they consciously
make efforts towards solving world problems.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
1. I will be able to take a step closer towards becoming a sustainable entrepreneur by
developing the mindset required for identifying problems and the appropriate
solutions for the same.
2. An idea if researched properly and built upon can translate into an actual startup
through the mentorship and guidance of the instructors of this course.
3. Develop my skills in systems thinking and apply them in other domains of my life
from career to academics to building my personality as a whole.
