1. Scaling up of a process
A process can be scaled up to increase the inputs or outputs by a factor. This factor is applied
to the flow rates and not to the mass or mole fractions.
a) The input feed rate to the atmospheric column is 2100kg/hr. What would be the scale
factor if the feed rate is scaled up to 6300 kg/hr?
b) A pilot plant was constructed based on a small scale lab production. The small scale
production is as follows:
There are two input streams A 500lbm/min and B 750 lbm /min and one output stream
C of 1250 lbm/min. Scale up the process so that stream C has an output flowrate of
7500 lbm/min
