In Career Life Connections 12 students will discover that careers are not simply occupational destinations but a journey that involves lifelong preparation and learning. Students will gain meaningful and renewed understanding into their personal transition to post-secondary education, professional employment, and adulthood. Students will develop curricular competencies related to: self-discovery, career exploration, post-secondary education, labour markets, finances, health, and emotional well-being. COURSE OBJECTIVES BIG IDEAS: Big Ideas are the key understandings that students will achieve by the end of the course. These Big Ideas cover the following concepts: Personal career-life development, Connections with community and Career-life planning. Students will explore and understand these specific Big Ideas throughout the Career Life Connections course: Career-life development includes ongoing cycles of exploring, planning, reflecting, adapting, and deciding Career-life decisions influence and are influenced by internal and external factors, including local and global trends A sense of purpose and career-life balance support well being Lifelong learning and active citizenship foster career-life opportunities and people and communities Engaging in networks and reciprocal relationships can guide and broaden career -life awareness an options ST. There are 3 main core competencies: Communication, Thinking, and Personal and Social Responsibility. Throughout the Career Life Connections course, students will focus on assessing and further developing these competencies. ASSIGNMENT LATENESS POLICY Meeting deadlines is essential in order to achieve success in your high school studies and life in general. 20% deduction for first day, 40% deduction for second day; 50% maximum deduction (you are encouraged to turn in an assignment no matter how late). Your grades are valuable. Please do not allow yourselves to lose points unnecessarily by being late or absent. COURSE EXPECTATIONS ➢ Be punctual! Class begins promptly, so please considerate of others and arrive to class prepared and on time. If you are late, get a late slip from the office, enter the class quietly, and find out what you missed from a classmate. ➢ Please participate! Class participation means being prepared, attentive, and productive during class. Your participation, attentiveness, and respectful attitude are expected and are also being evaluated. ➢ Be respectful and considerate of others. Rudeness or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. Listen to the teacher and classmates when talking. ➢ Please do not use electronics during class, unless instructed by teacher. ➢ Assignments: there are no assignment re-submissions or extra credit work—do your best work the first time. ➢ Cheating & plagiarism are unacceptable and a mark of “0” will be given to all parties involved. Students are expected to do their own work. Consultation and collaboration are encouraged in the research process but each student must produce their own finished product in their own words. Plagiarism is both theft and fraud. It is theft in that one person is taking the work of another, and it is fraud because that person is claiming that work as their own. ST.
