National character (introduction); English and American National Characters
Every country has own national character. Sometimes people from different
countries can be very similar. For example, Ukrainian and Russian both are
hospitable, hard-working, well-wishing, brave and resourceful. But on the other
hand, American and British are quite different. I want to tell you about difference
between these nations.
As for British people, they are superior aloof, snobbish, hypocritical and
unsociable. The British look on foreigners in general with contempt and think that
nothing is as well done as in their country. Englishmen tend to be rather
conservative, they love familiar things. They are hostile, or at least bored, when
they hear any suggestion that some modification of their habits or introduction of
something new and unknown into their lives, might be to their advantage. Also,
Britons is supposed to be the land of law and order. The Britons are practical and
realistic, they are infatuated with common sense. They are not misled by romantic
delusions.
American people are vigorous and enthusiastic. Most Americans prefer to
discipline themselves rather than be disciplined by others. They are prepared to
take the initiative, even, when there is a risk in doing so. Also, they will take any
sort of job anywhere rather than be unemployed. The average American changes
his or her job nine or ten times during his or her working life. Moreover, they have
warmth and friendliness which is less superficial than many foreigners think. They
are very sentimental. Reunions with family or friends tends to be emotional and
tears may come to their eyes.
I can’t ignore the Ukrainian character, because of my origin. We always have
valued restrain, consideration and a realistic view of life. Characteristically, they
fall into pensive moods, they may be sad, then suddenly burst with unabated
optimism and infectious vitality. Ukrainian have a very ironical.
In conclusion, all countries have an individual national character. I think it is good,
because it would be very boring, when all people will have the same
characteristics.
