The Medieval Times were not a “Dark Ages” because education flourished and resulted in the beginnings of modern science and a plethora of art that testified the faith of the people. 2. By “education flourished” I mean that the Church made great efforts to educate the laity during this time period. Parishes began to have their own schools. Universities taught great minds such as St. Thomas Aquinas, who proceeded to teach others. This high degree of learning resulted in the great minds of St. Albert the Great and Roger Bacon and their scientific studies of the natural world. The art of Medieval Times bears great witness to the faith of the people. The Church’s great strides in teaching the laity resulted in their desire to portray truths of their Faith. By offering their many skills to the Lord, the laity were able to construct memorable religious art.
